Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste

...Twisted. That is one word that I would use to describe some of the stories in this collection. Twisted but somehow compelling. I read this book from cover to cover in 2 days. I'd finish one story, then start with the next right away, wondering what could possibly come next. The Shooter is not a bad starting point, a bit like getting into a swimming pool at the shallow end really. The better tales include The Granton Star Cause, The Acid House, Eurotrash, The House of John Deaf. The collection also includes a short Novella "A Smart ****" This is an entertaining story, but doesn't really go anywhere, it's outshone by the short stories....

~A Good "rarebit" of Welsh Cheese~

Advantages: Delicious not as greasy as some cheddars are.
Disadvantages: May be difficult to find.

...I first discovered Y- Fenni some years ago in a delicatessen on one of our monthly trips to Doncaster and being a lover of cheese couldn't resist buying some to try, along with a few others I hadn't tasted before. Imagine my delight when I spotted some on the deli counter in my local Tesco a few weeks ago and unable to resist the temptation, I quickly popped some in my trolley. Y - Fenni (sometimes called Red Dragon) is a Welsh cheese and takes its name from the town where it is made, that's Abergavenny to us English. Made with pasteurised cow's milk, which is curdled with vegetarian rennet, it is then mixed with Welsh ale and mustard grains; pressed into moulds then wrapped in a protective wax. ...Recently I have been swapping DVDs with my friend ; I've been borrowing her 'up-to-date' movies and she's been watching my 'rom-coms'. Swedgin and skag

Advantages: Excellent and edgy mix of humour, violence and drugs, makes you think
Disadvantages: Violence, swearing and drugs will put some people off

...Until recently, I had made a distinct effort to avoid reading any of Irvine Welsh's books. I don't know why really, there was just something about him that irritated me, despite the excellence of 'Trainspotting'. Maybe it was the way he was feted by the literary establishment, or maybe it was the way he courted this fame with appearances at all the right parties, with his very public and endorsement of what might be regarded as 'trendy' political and social issues whenever he got the chance. Whatever, something just made me avoid anything he had written. Then I picked up a copy of 'Trainspotting', and thought it was even better than the film, so when I saw 'The Acid House', I decided to give it a go, and I have to admit that I'm glad I did, because once I got started I couldn't put it down! No Welshing on Quality

Advantages: Fascinating subject and era, well written
Disadvantages: The picture on the dust cover might put you off

...House is a fantastic series and I missed the first one but got in to watching this in the second series, so I rushed out to buy the first series box set and I could not stop watching it, it is so addictive. If you love medical dramas then this is one for you as it's not all your normal diagnosis, each episode goes through a new medical dilemma they have to try and solve and they are not your usual colds and virus's. House is a medical programme with a diagnosis to be made, so each episode has you playing doctor trying to figure what has caused the patient's medical condition. Welsh Terrier - always game for a laugh

Advantages: Easy to look after, affectionate and fun!
Disadvantages: none I can think of except being stubborn

I had been used to having a dog in the house all my life and it was awful , no welcome on arriving home and nobody to snuggle up to in the evenings. A Wooden Album by Crowded House?

Advantages: 'Woodface' includes some of the most sublime love songs ever written
Disadvantages: It's all a bit much and much the same; the tracks that do dare to be different, don't fit
