The Wentworth Follies

Advantages: Interesting monuments with plenty of history attached to them
Disadvantages: Charges apply to visit some of them, limited visited times.

...I recently wrote a review on the Wentworth-Woodhouse Estate, one of the finest examples of a Grand Country House and Estate in Northern England. Situated in South Yorkshire about 4 miles North of Rotherham this Estate covers 600 acres and was once the home to one of the richest men in England, the 2nd Marquis of Rockingham, who was twice Prime Minister of England in the latter part of the 1700's. The Grounds to the vast Wentworth Estate contains many attractions. Amongst these are four different structures known as the Wentworth Follies. Each of these monuments which are associated with the 2nd Marquis and his Father, the 1st Marquis of Rockingham, formerly the Earl of Malton were built between 1748 and 1785 have a unique design and structure. Curiously if you look at the doorways to the first three structures in chronological...

Wentworth Woodhouse was my home!

Advantages: A great day out for free
Disadvantages: The house is not open to the public

...Take a look at the picture above of Wentworth Woodhouse. . I lived there! But more about that later....... First of all I will share a little information about this fabulous building. Wentworth Woodhouse is one of Britain's biggest stately homes covering 2.5 acres in the village of Wentworth near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It is just 6 miles north of Sheffield. It is set in an impressive 150 acre estate. Now for some amazing statistics! The building itself contains over 365 rooms - one for every day of the year! It also has 1000 windows! It is so big that it is alleged that guests were once given confetti of different colours to strew so they could find their way back to their rooms! Wentworth Woodhouse was built around 1725- 1735 and incorporates parts of an earlier 17th century manor house. It is basically two...

Miller

Advantages: Taste, Goes down easily, Cheap (6 for £5)
Disadvantages: Not the best (though freaking great)

...Just previous to this review I'd had a bottle of San Miguel ("San Awful"- http://www.ciao.co.uk/SanMiguelPremiumLagerReview5632358), then sat down to a bottle of Miller. Thankfully I'd still had a Miller left in the fridge after the previous nights drinking. Miller is one of the few beers that comes in a clear glass bottle (as the beers can be given a malty taste if left in sun light, as can also be seen in Corona extra), Miller is an American 4.7% import from apparently America's second top company. Which they claim as being "America's quality beer", personally I'd agree. Now onto the actual review...well actually it wasn't, the review was started like 2 weeks ago but I never actualy got round to finishing it as my flat mate drank the one I saved so here's the review as I've got one with me. As soon as the bottle opens...

Diamond review  Frank Miller's 300

Advantages: Six packs abound in a graphic and bloodly epic
Disadvantages: Highly stylised violence, perhaps not for everyone

...Background 300 is the second Frank Miller graphic novel to be adapted for the big screen. The first was the critically acclaimed Sin City and the director Zack Snyder has used the same process of photocopying panels from the original comic book to plan out the finished look of his latest movie. The final result is a visually stunning combination of live action and CGI that is remarkably faithful to Miller's original artwork. It is quite literally a comic novel brought to life and the superb quality of Miller's graphic creations are a guarantee of stunning eye candy throughout. Plot Summary The story of the movie is based on the Battle of Thermopylae, 480 BC in which 300 Spartan warriors held off a Persian army of up to 1 million indigenous and mercenary soldiers against all the odds. The two main protagonists are King Leonidas...

Competent, Compelling & Fun (The Innocent Mage - Karen Miller)

Advantages: fun, easy to read, competent, compelling
Disadvantages: shallow and derivative

...with the fantasy archetype, to fulfil his destiny. The Circle, a secret cabal devoted to preserving the old and forgotten Olken magic is watching and gently guiding him, as only he will have a chance of saving Lur when the Wall crumbles in the Final Days. The Innocent Mage, part one of the Kingmaker, Kingbreaker dylogy is an example of a traditional sword and sorcery fantasy which is known as a rather derivative genre, and the skill here lies not necessarily in producing something of startling originality but in using the known tropes in a way that will make for a satisfying, compelling tale that holds together and manages to maximise the page count (and thus the time of entertainment it provides) while maintaining interest and, ideally, leaving the reader asking for more at the end. The Innocent Mage does all that admirably: Karen Miller uses...

Miller homes - Excellent all round

Advantages: Great service, before and after moving in
Disadvantages: None come to mind

...I'm writing this review as I'm shocked by the poor reviews previously given about Miller homes. I've had quite the opposite experience with them. The other reviews seem to be from a number of years ago, so maybe they've sorted out their customer care issues since then, either that or theres a problem in only some regions, I noticed 2 of the 3 other reviews were from Edinburgh and I know Millers customer care is still very regional. Buying the house Anyway, onto my review. About 6 months ago myself and my wife to be set out looking for a new place having only bought our first house 18 months prior to that (George Wimpey new build - another review for another day! :-)). Having been looking around for a while, struggling to find anything in our price range near to where we wanted to be, and struggling to sell our house due to...

MILLER A WINNER

Advantages: Refreshing, crisp, great taste.
Disadvantages: Smallish head

...the lack of drunks to canoodle with them and continue the spread of their grotesque genes… But the people of Britain adore beer, necking 27 million pints a day, and until some backward prohibition law bars us from throwing it down our necks, we’ll carry on drinking it until the day we die. But there isn’t just one type of beer, there are thousands. This brings me onto my opinion of one of my favourite beers, Miller Genuine Draft. With a 4.7% ABV this American beer isn’t the strongest premium lager but it does the trick after a few :-) It is the original cold filtered beer, and is brewed using a top secret process (so I can’t tell you how to brew it sorry!). It is a very refreshing and crisp beer which makes it a great drink when you get home from a hard days work. The head is small but it is very sturdy...

It's Miller Time...unfortunately

Advantages: It's wet
Disadvantages: How long have you got?

...There's a wonderful, wonderland of different, exotic beers out there. Beers to suit all occasions, beers to suit all tastes. Sometimes I like to indulge in a beer that is rich, dark and complex. At other times a simple, thirst quenching combination of hops and malt is all that is needed to hit the spot. I'm not demanding, all that I require is a basic semblance of beeriness. Is that too much to ask? MILLER is the second largest brewer in the USA and has over 20% of that market. It was founded in 1855 in Milwaukee, by a German immigrant who, by an amazing coincidence, was called Frederick Miller. The company was taken over in 1970 by Philip Morris, the tobacco company (no ethical issues there, then). http:www.millerbrewing.com MILLER GENUINE DRAFT was launched in 1986 using a 'special' cold-filtering process which means that...

Death of a Salesman- Miller's most famous play

Advantages: Intelligent literary play with scope for plenty of analysis
Disadvantages: Won't appeal to everyone

...Death of a Salesman is a play, written by the late, highly respected Arthur Miller. Miller was not a prolific playwright, and Death of a Salesman is one of his few but most famous works. The genre of the play is essentially a tragedy although not in the typical sense. Miller wanted to challenge the typical literary device of tragedy which has always been a person of high stature falling out of power because of a fatal flaw. Death of a Salesman showed that tragedy can happen to anybody in the world, no matter what their social class, which is why the play centres on Willy Loman; a salesman. Indeed, the word 'Loman' is symbolic of a 'low man'. The play uses two different timeframes simultaneously, one based in the present, and one based in the past. Past flashbacks are often triggered in Willy's mind by symbols and motifs from...

Martin Millers Gin

Advantages: Great tasting, strong and a hint of luxury
Disadvantages: Price

...Millers gin is one of the finest tastiest gins that could ever cross your palate. It is a gin like no other and at 45.2% it is stronger than the others too. Distilled with what could be the purest water on earth from Iceland the gin not only enhances the Martini, makes a fabulous gin and tonic but is equally palatable on its own. Very few gins are drinkable neat and Martin Milers is one of the few that is. Definitley a luxury brand of gin but I can guarantee that once tasted you will always want to have a bottle in the house for that special drink. A fine, smooth and highly prized gin and for anyone who doesn't like gin, try this and you will!...
