...I have always been a big fan of rain. As long as I know there are clean dry clothes waiting for me at the other end of a rain shower, a hot bath, a nice wee drink, I'm happy. It's great for my garden, makes all the pretty flowers grow, and saves me lugging great hefty buckets and watering cans about. Fantastic. Rain is something that comes with the territory of walking the West Highland Way. The West Highland Way, Scotland

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, good for fitness, raise money!
Disadvantages: Bad weather dependant on the season

...I decided I would do the West Highland Way in August/September last year over a period of 6 days. I do not regret that decision one little bit. The West Highland Way is a 95 mile walk from just north of Glasgow (Milngavie) to Fort William which sits at the foot of Britains highest mountain, Ben Nevis. It is a beautiful walk taking in some of the most beautiful scenery on our island. you can, of course, choose to walk the other way but I had been warned that it is a little more difficult as there are more steep climbs going the other way, whereas the climb is more gradual from south to north. It is up to tthe individual or group as to how many days to take for the walk. The same can be said for where to stop and stay over. What they were used for? ---------------------------------- West Highland Terriers are more commonly known as Westies and are famous for their white coat. Firstly some information on this breed of dog: THE BREED: The white West Highland terriers for some reason are often confused with the black Scottish terriers which are about the same size & shape & nicknamed 'Scotties'. ...I had wanted to walk the west highland way for ages but never had the time to plan it, then one day i decided that i had to do it now or i would never get round to planning it. So glad that i did. I then went on the internet and ordered two west highland way guides (smaller more practical guides being an advantage). We didnt actually realise how heavy our rucksacks were.going to be. If i was going again which i would very much like to then i would take the following - > good quality pair of waterproof boots > two t-shirts > two pairs of light trousers > warm jumper > waterproofs > warm hat and gloves > plenty of water is a must have Might sound basic but it all adds up, although you do get companies which take your rucksacks by van to each of your destinations each day for about about £30-£40 that is for dropping off your...

Westie - a super little breed for all ages.

Advantages: Easy to exersise, friendly, small, the kind of pet you can entrust a child to take for a walk.
Disadvantages: Can suffer from eye and skin problems.

...The West Highland Terrier is a very good breed of dog, it is suitable for all ages from children to pensioners. It gives it's owner loyalty for ever. The size of dog is perfect for a small house or flat, and requires only short walks, and playtimes can take place in gardens or parks. I do of course recommend you to buy from KC registered, and avoid "Puppy farmers" like the plague. I have not given a guide price as they vary so much, and do not believe in a "book price" for these dogs. The breed does however suffer from some ailments. Firstly there are eye troubles, in my case these were soon sorted by my very expert vet, but in some dogs the problem simply does not go away, it is just kept under control. This is the case with the next complaint, namely the skin problems they suffer from. In my case the problem...

West Highland White Terriers are small, white terriers up to about twelve inches (30cms) in height for a dog, slightly less for a bitch. They weigh about 22lbs (10kgs) for an adult male, a little less for a bitch. Their coats are short and white, coarser on the top and soft underneath.
