Whistle stop tour of the West of Scotland!
Advantages: Stunning scenery, peace and tranquility
Disadvantages: Midges at some times of years!
...Majestic mountains, dense forests, babbling burns through peaceful glens, deep mysterious lochs, hidden coves, grazing deer, a soaring eagle, empty white sandy beaches, I could go on and on, because our few days in the west of Scotland have had all this and much more too.
Failte. That is welcome in Gaelic, the greeting you see as you enter many of the places in the West Highlands of Scotland, and a very warm welcome we had everywhere we went on our few days break. We travelled on a Sunday, passing through Glasgow and heading over the Erskine bridge, through Helensburgh along the Firth of Clyde, then on the shores of Gare Loch and Loch Long, climbing up to Arrochar. This we realised was to be a holiday of Lochs and forests! My husband was singing his repertoire of Scottish songs by then, and ?Yon bonny banks? and ?Ye tak the high...

The West Highland Way, Scotland
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, good for fitness, raise money!
Disadvantages: Bad weather dependant on the season
...I decided I would do the West Highland Way in August/September last year over a period of 6 days.
I do not regret that decision one little bit.
The West Highland Way is a 95 mile walk from just north of Glasgow (Milngavie) to Fort William which sits at the foot of Britains highest mountain, Ben Nevis. It is a beautiful walk taking in some of the most beautiful scenery on our island. you can, of course, choose to walk the other way but I had been warned that it is a little more difficult as there are more steep climbs going the other way, whereas the climb is more gradual from south to north.
It is up to tthe individual or group as to how many days to take for the walk. The same can be said for where to stop and stay over. There are a number of towns and villages on the way with accommodation ranging from camping sites to...

good job mr west dropped out of college
Advantages: original lyrics, great beats
Disadvantages: may be too many skits
...I think this is the first hip hop album I?ve heard, without it mentioning how rich the rapper has become. So Kanye west, who is he? Well ever since his first solo song was released ?Though the Wire?, Kanye has become a famous name in most teenagers lives. He has become increasingly popular in 2004 and still is. Here?s a little information for those who have never heard of him. In October 2002 Kanye?s life nearly ended, when he was involved in a devastating near fatal car crash, where he suffered serious injuries and left his jaw fractured in three places. Ever since then, Kanye has understood the preciousness of life and is grateful that he survived. He wrote this album based on his life. Each song is original and involves some aspect of life.
Below I have written my thoughts on all the tracks on the album except for the skits...

MY 1ST IMPRESSIONS OF SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND
Advantages: Beautiful but unsung corner of Scotland
Disadvantages: Staying alive on the A75
...It was the autumn half-term holiday last week, so for those with kids or connected to primary and secondary education in some way, it was a last chance to get fleeced by the tourist industry before the bargain basement off-season prices apply.
Whoo-hoo, my daughter is now 22. Booo, I?m married to a teacher!
Ruth and I tend to alternate between catching the last of the sun in the Med area and having a relaxing if calorific time usually in our beloved Lake District. (Oh that Sticky Toffee Pudding!).
It was the UK?s turn this year, but we fancied somewhere else. I?m running out of places to see in The Lakes, and I?ll be bug****d if I?ll go to see all the Beatrix Potter memorabilia just because we?ve ?done? everywhere else.
Having been to Carlisle a few times whilst in The Lakes, I remember making a mental note that ?Scotland...

My beloved Uni
Advantages: Friendly
Disadvantages: Parking
...fresher is guaranteed a 'halls' place. Prices however are always a problem and the SU is always working to keep them down.
The advisory service is great.
The tutors are extremely helpful, as are all the staff, its not a faceless feeling place at all. The Teaching quality is always rated great, although that may change this year with 52% of economics students failing the exams. With the finals just gone, very few students actually passed all their exams at the first attempt but this is being looked into.
Taking part in student action, the SU try their best, UWE compared to another uni in Bristol is quite left-wing and always take part in all the demos, all students should be involved in this.
Transport is awful, parking onsite is almost impossible, buses, well its Bristol buses no more to be said. Car-sharing is a good option.
Bristol...

The Wilder West
Advantages: Unspoiled wilderness, fascinating sights and sites
Disadvantages: Persistent rainfall, persistent sandflies
...Having crossed the Southern Alps and reached the coast at Greymouth, you may be tempted to head south straight away. This is, after all, the direction in which the highest mountains, the deepest rainforest and the remotest tracts of wilderness are to be found. And if you haven't come to see mountains, forest and wilderness, you've come to the wrong place.
Resist the temptation. First, cross the Grey River and take a small diversion up the coast to the north, just an hour's drive to the Paparoa National Park. You will thereby ensure that your first taste of the west coast is not the relatively drab and developed stretch immediately south of Greymouth (only relatively, since nothing along this coast is drab or developed by European standards). North of the Grey River the country is hardly touched, and the drive takes you round...

The Last King of Scotland
Advantages: Great acting, story to be told
Disadvantages: Gruesome
...The Last King of Scotland is a story, inspired by real people and events about the life of the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The film came out in 2006 and was one that I really enjoyed. In my opinion it's well portrayed, beautifully acted, tense and gripping and one you really have to watch.
Idi Amin is played by Forest Whitaker and he gives a truly haunting portrail. He's really quite scary in this film at the same time as being really captivating and interesting and it's no coincidence that people fall for his charms. I think he actually bears a little resembalance to the dictator himself and so this definitely made the look and character more believeable. In fact, it's not jsut me who thinks Forest did a great job. He won the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild and the BAFTAs for his role...

Uganda or Scotland?
Advantages: Great performances, Tense, Compelling viewing
Disadvantages: Factually inaccurate
...One of the most misleading film/book titles ever in my opinion!
So what is the film about? Is it any good?
-------------------------------------------------------
This is the tale of how the films protagonist Dr Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) is taken under the wing of Ugandan president, Idi Amin (Forrest Whitaker). Amin just so happens to be a brutal dictator with a bit of a problem with trusting people.
Garrigan had just finished university and felt like he was trapped into following on in exactly the same manner as his father, being a doctor in Scotland. He decided he needed to make a clean break and therefore flew out to Uganda for serving both the purposes of being great help to the health of the locals and also to gain some sense of adventure.
On a chance meeting, Amin expresses his somewhat bizarre love of Scotland...

College Dropout
Advantages: Great album, some legendary songs
Disadvantages: too many skits
...Kanye West?s debut album; College Dropout is excellent. Although West showed off his quality by producing hit songs for the likes of Jay-Z this album demonstrated his ability not only to produce great tune after tune but also to rap with the best of them. West?s approach tends to have a bit more of a commercial sound than say Eminem but don?t let this fool you, he has what it takes to be the best (and he believes it more than anybody). One of my gripes with the album is the number of skits throughout and although they can be funny or set you up for the next song they do lose their appeal after a couple of hearings.
Intro
We Don?t Care
Graduation Day ? Although basically in introduction to the next song or a skit it is quite a nice melody to listen to anyway.
All Falls Down ? Awesome song, 5/5 definatly, has everything; nice...
