...I recently reviewed the TomTom one, which we bought with the Western Europe maps, and I have been waiting to put Jane (our name, after the voice) through her paces in rural France. As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update. Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch. To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving. The whole of Europe!

Advantages: great software, great usability, graphics, features, lots of maps
Disadvantages: price, it was not that easy to install

...in your trip, etc. You can customize it to 'speak' in many different languages including English, Dutch, Portuguese, French and many others. Furthermore, you can also set the map with different colour schemes, which is very handy when driving at night so the colours are a bit less bright. Other additional features (you need to pay for this) let you know the weather of your destination in advance, the traffic of your route, make phone calls if your device allows you and many others. The advantage of this over the main Tomtom unit is that it has maps for the whole of the Western Europe. You then are able to use your Tomtom one, Tomtom Rider, or any of the Tomtom Go series in Europe. The map in this review is version 6.5, this is the latest version out, and is pretty much up to date. Contents - In the box you will find, the latest version 6.5 software on DVD, containing very detailed instructions, voice prompt files and Tomtom home, also in the box are the warranty leaflet, (the warranty is for one year) a simple installation poster, and the product code card (you will need to go online to activate this, see www.ttcode.com) Type of format - as stated the DVD is put into your PC, which in turn is downloaded to the Tomtom.There are some nice & easy to see graphics...

A package of maps worth having

...Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet. Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either by credit or debit card, and the down load commenced. Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer. Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest....

I can?t really describe it any other way, it was a square building with grey walls but on entering it was actually very well set out. Stone floors and stairs, interesting antiques and very clean so I was quite looking forward seeing the rooms. Well I was disappointed. The rooms pictured on the Best Western website looked nothing like ours. I can only imagine that they are executive rooms and not standard ones. To be honest I would love this to be a big rant about Great Western, but I'm going to keep my comments fair, because although they do a lot of things wrong, there are also some things that I do actually like about the way they run their service. ...The Tom Tom ONE XL Europe is one of the easiest car navigation devices to use. It is mostly self explainatry but if you are unsure how to use it, the manual is very specific and very easy to understand. In my opinion the actual software that is installed on it is excellent. When driving, it is easy to follow all of the instruction that are being said by the automated voice. The one concern with this product is the very short battery life and sometimes, when it has been previously been connected to the computer to install updates, the system gets stuck and freezes. It has to be reset for it to function properly again and then it takes up to ten minutes!! There are many options that you can choose when planning your route so you drive the route that is most suitable for you. Other than the one disadvantage, it is a very good car navigation...
