Wharfedale's Multi-Region Capability.
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
Samoorai
Advantages: Multi region capability
Disadvantages: Not the nicest looking player on the market
...The Wharfedale DVD 750 has, a im sure alot of you know, the capability to play DVD imports from any other country in the world, including the USA. To those of you who do not understand what this means, film producers decided to encode DVD's so you would not be able to run a UK (region 2) DVD on a US (region 1) DVD player, and obviously, the problem arises for us Brits when you reverse the problem. However, by simply having the disc tray on your Wharfedale ejected and pressing 0,1,2,3 on your DVD remote, the player is set to play imported films. I find this feature completely essential now as i have imported my last two DVD's. Advantages of getting import DVD's imclude better special features often, getting films before they are out over here (I got Fight Club before it has come out to buy over here, and The Green Mile before it has even...

A Great Player in its Time
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
mikeydred
Advantages: Multi Region from handset
Disadvantages: Doesnt play MP3s, Slow disc loading
...I bought my Wharfedale 750 twelve months ago from Tesco and it was cheap and has performed excellently in the time that I have had it.
The drawbacks are that it cant play MP3s and is slow in loading disks. Also region switchinfg is done by setting the machine to region zero, which means that you can play disks where the new region protection is installed.
Its given me great service over the year and I would still recommend buying one if you can get it for around £100. It provides all the basic facilities and has lots of outputs on the back, and mine has had no problems even playing CDRs.
I've got my eye on a new one now and the Wharfedale will move to the bedroom....

Wharfedale 750 - not as good as you think
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
Xeon007
Advantages: Cheap, CD-R playback, easy hack, plays RCE discs
Disadvantages: No 5.1 decoder, no mp3 playback, bad remote
...survive without it (at least for a while). The drive itself is a bit slow and the flap makes an annoying sound every time it opens and closes.
The on-screen display (OSD) is basic, giving away the player's price immediately. A blocky font is used that is not the clearest to read. However, there are a few useful functions - such as the zoom feature and the ability to read CD-Rs. The multi-region hack is a piece of cake too - just open the drive, place a Region 1 DVD in it and then hit 0, 1, 2, 3 on the remote and Play. The new Wharfedales also play the RCE discs fine.
However, all of the Wharfedale's bad points could be ignored if there were not more suitable and better rivals out there. The Bush 2004 for example is £180, features a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder and has a very easy hack also. The LG-3350 is my personal favourite though...

Cheap Multi-Region Player
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
Vistaway
Advantages: Multi-region, good features and quality.
Disadvantages: Horrible remote control
...As my second DVD player, the Wharfedale 750 is the cheap, budget one. Less that $179 at Tescos puts this one in the budget category, but the price is deceiving for the high-quality you get. The player is available under several different names (Bush, Proline), with only slight cosmetic differences. The Wharfedale version certainly didn't win any design awards, as the unit is black, plain and squared. The remote is the worst part of the player: small and ugly, with tiny buttons arranged without any sense of logic. Forgetting about the remote, we get to the REAL reason I bought the player - its multi-region capability. Just place a disc in the open tray - press 1,2,3 and play on the remote and...you have a multi-region player. Since all of my DVDs are from North America, this was essential, and I am still able to play Region 2 discs...

Cheap Multi-Region DVD Player
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
madwolf
Advantages: Multi region, cheap, good quality
Disadvantages: Only available from Tesco, tends to sell out!
...The Wharfedale DVD-750 is only available through Tesco's. It has won a slew of recommendations from DVD magazines and "What Hi-Fi?", and is excellent value-for-money since it costs only £169.99 and can easily be persuaded to play DVDs from any region.
I personally think that the whole idea of region-coding DVDs is a deplorable piece of profiteering by film companies, and so wouldn't ever consider buying a player that couldn't play all discs.
To get the Wharfedale to play other regions, simply eject the disc tray, place a Region 1 (or whatever) disc on the tray, press 0, 1, 2, 3, then "play" on the remote, and it should play the disc.
Excellent picture quality, multi-region, and excellent value-for-money. I highly recommend this player....

Budget DVD - Wharfedale 750 and 750s
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
eklipze
Advantages: Region free done with key presses of remote
Disadvantages: Noisy motor - Bit slow to load discs
...As seen in TESCO here is about as full a review of the two machines as I can get.
DVD 750 - Available in most large Tesco stores, cost £179.
There are three diffrent versions of this player but most on sale are the newwer chipsets and these have got over the original problems the player had with certain region 1 and 2 discs (more info at the wharfedale website www.wharfedale.co.uk).
This player is indeed one of the best 'budget' DVD's I have seen so far, although there is a DVD 750S too which Tesco are
selling for the same price..... read on
DVD 750s - Available at some Tesco stores (bundled in piles with the standard 750) and at time of writing are available at TESCO.COM
The latest version of the 750 (ie the S) is everything the 750 wasnt! Wharfedale have listened to the public and Tesco and brought out an excellent machine. The 750s...

Wharfedale DVD-750 - not perfect
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
owain.davies
Advantages: Price, generally good quality
Disadvantages: Problems with certain titles, DVDs must be very clean and Not compatible with all in one remotes
...The Wharfedale DVD-750 has been lauded by many as the best DVD player on the market, with the combination of it's very low price, it's all region compatability and good range of features.
I would largely agree with this opinion - i myself bought the player within a week of it's release, mainly influenced by it's very low cost (although the amount i have now spent on DVD's makes the initial outlay seem a pitance). It is compatible with region 1 discs (press 0,1,2,3 on the remote with the tray out and then press play with an out of region disc in) which is ideal for me because frequent trips to the Us by myself and my family on business give a ready supply of US discs.
The player works very well most of the time and provides many hours of entertainment, and certainly low cost. However, i fell i should point out a few short comings...

Wired for sound
Review of Wharfedale AKC3100C by
Maniac1701d
Advantages: Good Clean Sound, comfortable, stylish
Disadvantages: Some sound leakage
...to the actual ear pieces with an inner black headband made of a softer material - it's plastic but soft and comfortable.
The ear pieces themselves are silver in colour with black padding around where they sit on your head.
There is also a rather sci-fi looking little design on the outside of the earpiece to give it a nice look.
L and R are on the left and right hand side of the earpieces - respectfully - with Wharfedale AKC3100 on them as well.
The earpieces also move to ensure a good fit.
How do you connect them up?
********************************
These headphones are equiped with a black cord connected to the left earpiece of a length of 3 metres with a volume control about half a metre down from the ear in a very convenient place. The volume control takes the headphones from total mute to full volume.
They have a 3.5mm (mini) jack but also come...

Bugs to be found but still worth 179 pounds
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
RichardDimery
Advantages: Good quality, multi region hackable
Disadvantages: Buggy with some discs, slow and fiddly operation
...I bought the Wharfedale 750 DVD player last November and am very pleased about it, despite being unable to play a couple of my small number of DVDs that comprise my growing collection. I managed to find a Tesco in the run up to Christmas that was still stocking many players, and drove over late one evening.
The multiregion hack is easy to find on the internet (type Wharfedale 750 DVD hack into any search engine) and easier to operate. The sound quality is exemplary, with fine DTS and Dolby 5.1 options. You may find the setup controls somewhat complicated and sometimes the operation can be a little slow but the picture is stunning and the player is high quality, especially considering the price.
I had to complain by email about bugs in the processor - a known bug is with the features disc 2 of Gladiator, and the bonus disc 3 of the Toy...

Cheap good vibration
Review of Wharfedale M3 by
anth_harrison
Advantages: Cheap, compatable with alot of formats
Disadvantages: Vibration
...The first-ever DVD player and I bought was Goodman's which was free with the TV some time ago, which been one of the earlier DVD players and was not compatible with playing of the likes of CD-R and DVD-R. So an upgrade was required.
After searching through various electrical shops, I came across his special offer on it Wharfedale M3 DVD Player, this was been sold for £99, which for this spec seemed like a bargain. Being familiar with the Wharfedale brand , I thought it would be a worthwhile taking it further look. Wharfedale are renowned for their excellence in speaker quality, and are now all moving into the electronic entertainment side of the business.
The Wharfedale M3 DVD Player is a good entry point into the world of DVD offering all the standard features offered by DVD players. Finished in silver, the unit comes complete...
