Wharfedale 750 - not as good as you think
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
Xeon007
Advantages: Cheap, CD-R playback, easy hack, plays RCE discs
Disadvantages: No 5.1 decoder, no mp3 playback, bad remote
...survive without it (at least for a while). The drive itself is a bit slow and the flap makes an annoying sound every time it opens and closes.
The on-screen display (OSD) is basic, giving away the player's price immediately. A blocky font is used that is not the clearest to read. However, there are a few useful functions - such as the zoom feature and the ability to read CD-Rs. The multi-region hack is a piece of cake too - just open the drive, place a Region 1 DVD in it and then hit 0, 1, 2, 3 on the remote and Play. The new Wharfedales also play the RCE discs fine.
However, all of the Wharfedale's bad points could be ignored if there were not more suitable and better rivals out there. The Bush 2004 for example is £180, features a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder and has a very easy hack also. The LG-3350 is my personal favourite though...

Superb
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
bigrennie
Advantages: Amazing Features, better than top of the range players
Disadvantages: Only available from Tesco
...This is the best cheap DVD player on the market. Pop along to your local Tesco and for £180 you get a brand spanking new DVD player.
The Wharfedale is better than most expensive DVD Players. It plays Region 1 and 2 DVDs, VCDs and CD-Rs. Not only that but it has DTS sound. It plays all American imports without fuss although you have have to use a remote hack to access Region 1 playback. The sound and picture quality is brilliant. Anyone who wants to get in to DVDs with a small budget should buy this....

Review of Wharfedale WCD713RDS RCD by
MR.COATES
Advantages: Price, features.
Disadvantages: CD player jumps to easily.
...I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this Wharfedale Car CD/RDS Tuner in currys for £95.
Nice looks, easy to use, 4 speaker compatible (with balance and front/rear fade controls) lovely design. Great.
It was simple to install, and thanks to the RDS technology you don't even have to set the clock.
So here's the bad bit:
The CD player is probably the main reason for buying this head unit and I'm afraid that in my car cd's are prone to jumping on a fairly regular basis.
That aside though, the RDS radio performs well and has all the typical features (traffic bulletins etc) and if you're listening to a CD and the traffic interupts play, it will return to the place where you left off once the bulletin is over.
Such a shame, this is a really nice head unit which looks and sounds great but it's probably worth paying a little more...

Wired for sound
Review of Wharfedale AKC3100C by
Maniac1701d
Advantages: Good Clean Sound, comfortable, stylish
Disadvantages: Some sound leakage
...Unfortunately I currently share a house with a large number of people for reasons I will not go into and therefore am unable to have my music blasting out whenever I want to.
I spend a lot of time on the PC reviewing, blogging etc and so listen to music through it.
I decided to invest in some headphones and because my father always swears by Wharfedale headphones I decided to get a pair the same as his.
So, I'm currently sitting here writing this with an album playing through the Wharfedale AKC3100s.
What's the sound like?
*************************
It's very clean, by clean I mean no noise that you sometimes get with other headphones or speakers.
The bass is good and balanced and the stereo effect is nice.
What do they look like?
*************************
They have a black outer headband made of hard plastic which attaches directly...

Bugs to be found but still worth 179 pounds
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
RichardDimery
Advantages: Good quality, multi region hackable
Disadvantages: Buggy with some discs, slow and fiddly operation
...I bought the Wharfedale 750 DVD player last November and am very pleased about it, despite being unable to play a couple of my small number of DVDs that comprise my growing collection. I managed to find a Tesco in the run up to Christmas that was still stocking many players, and drove over late one evening.
The multiregion hack is easy to find on the internet (type Wharfedale 750 DVD hack into any search engine) and easier to operate. The sound quality is exemplary, with fine DTS and Dolby 5.1 options. You may find the setup controls somewhat complicated and sometimes the operation can be a little slow but the picture is stunning and the player is high quality, especially considering the price.
I had to complain by email about bugs in the processor - a known bug is with the features disc 2 of Gladiator, and the bonus disc 3 of the Toy...

Cheap good vibration
Review of Wharfedale M3 by
anth_harrison
Advantages: Cheap, compatable with alot of formats
Disadvantages: Vibration
...The first-ever DVD player and I bought was Goodman's which was free with the TV some time ago, which been one of the earlier DVD players and was not compatible with playing of the likes of CD-R and DVD-R. So an upgrade was required.
After searching through various electrical shops, I came across his special offer on it Wharfedale M3 DVD Player, this was been sold for £99, which for this spec seemed like a bargain. Being familiar with the Wharfedale brand , I thought it would be a worthwhile taking it further look. Wharfedale are renowned for their excellence in speaker quality, and are now all moving into the electronic entertainment side of the business.
The Wharfedale M3 DVD Player is a good entry point into the world of DVD offering all the standard features offered by DVD players. Finished in silver, the unit comes complete...

Perfect CD in car at a low price
Review of Pioneer DEHP6000R by
alflavor
Advantages: Cheap. Nice styling, good display, sound settings
Disadvantages: None, for its price I can't fault it
...I aquired this model of Pioneer CD player when I had become fed up of the Wharfedale unit I had installed previously.
I managed to get a refund on the Wharfedale (the cds jumped all the time) and I paid a few pound extra to get this Pioneer unit. Needless to say I am very happy with the Pioneer and it has jumped only a few times and then only on a bad pothole.
Unlike the Wharfedale which jumped at 5mph in a traffic jam!! True, it did, believe me.....
From the front it does not have a slot a CD to fit in. A small button on the top right of the panel lowers the panel to reveal a CD slot. The CD eject key is also behind the panel too.
The panel can be removed when in the down position as an important security measure. It simply slides in and out as needed.
When you put a CD in it autoplays which is a nice touch. The front panel has...

A Sound Bargain!
Review of Tannoy Sensys 2 by
peterkinxl5
Advantages: AWESOME sound quailty out of all proportion for the price (see review), decent build quality and finish,
Disadvantages: Not so great for loud thumping Bass, but you can't have everything! Hulking them back home 15 miles.
...I'd recently caught the Hifi bug after an absence of over 20 years having looked in on myself and discarded other interests. Last year I'd purchased a lot of s/h hifi kit c/o Cash Converters. At the time I was well happy with my Technics CD player, Pioneer A676 amp and Wharfdale Valdus 400 speakers. That was until my friend who is in the Hifi trade decided to audition my set-up. After listening to his 'destructive' criticism for five mins, I decided that I needed a radical upgrade and my speakers were the top priority.
My Wharfedales had served me well and for the cost of £34.95 from Cash Converters, couldn't be argued with.
But I had bigger plans for the future.
I had a few basic requirements in mind:
1) I required floorstanders-this would give me a bigger overall sound than standmounted speakers, though my room is borderline regarding...

Budget DVD
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
diceman
Advantages: Budget but good quality
Disadvantages: Ugly design
...A couple of months ago I bought a Wharfedale 750 DVD player for £180 from Tesco and it outperforms my other DVD player a Toshiba SD 2109.Picture quality is excellent and sound quality is very good.It is able to play discs from any region without having to enter a code unlike other budget players. The only downside is the design, it is very dull and square looking and the remote control is very small and fiddly. If you are looking for a cheap but good quality DVD player then I recommend the Wharfedale 750 it is available from larger Tesco stores....

Wharfedale's Multi-Region Capability.
Review of Wharfedale 750 by
Samoorai
Advantages: Multi region capability
Disadvantages: Not the nicest looking player on the market
...The Wharfedale DVD 750 has, a im sure alot of you know, the capability to play DVD imports from any other country in the world, including the USA. To those of you who do not understand what this means, film producers decided to encode DVD's so you would not be able to run a UK (region 2) DVD on a US (region 1) DVD player, and obviously, the problem arises for us Brits when you reverse the problem. However, by simply having the disc tray on your Wharfedale ejected and pressing 0,1,2,3 on your DVD remote, the player is set to play imported films. I find this feature completely essential now as i have imported my last two DVD's. Advantages of getting import DVD's imclude better special features often, getting films before they are out over here (I got Fight Club before it has come out to buy over here, and The Green Mile before it has even...
