Budget DVD - Wharfedale 750 and 750s
Review of Wharfedale 750 by  eklipze

Advantages: Region free done with key presses of remote
Disadvantages: Noisy motor - Bit slow to load discs

...As seen in TESCO here is about as full a review of the two machines as I can get. DVD 750 - Available in most large Tesco stores, cost £179. There are three diffrent versions of this player but most on sale are the newwer chipsets and these have got over the original problems the player had with certain region 1 and 2 discs (more info at the wharfedale website www.wharfedale.co.uk). This player is indeed one of the best 'budget' DVD's I have seen so far, although there is a DVD 750S too which Tesco are selling for the same price..... read on DVD 750s - Available at some Tesco stores (bundled in piles with the standard 750) and at time of writing are available at TESCO.COM The latest version of the 750 (ie the S) is everything the 750 wasnt! Wharfedale have listened to the public and Tesco and brought out an excellent machine... Read review

Wharfedale DVD-750 - not perfect
Review of Wharfedale 750 by  owain.davies

Advantages: Price, generally good quality
Disadvantages: Problems with certain titles, DVDs must be very clean and Not compatible with all in one remotes

...The Wharfedale DVD-750 has been lauded by many as the best DVD player on the market, with the combination of it's very low price, it's all region compatability and good range of features. I would largely agree with this opinion - i myself bought the player within a week of it's release, mainly influenced by it's very low cost (although the amount i have now spent on DVD's makes the initial outlay seem a pitance). It is compatible with region 1 discs (press 0,1,2,3 on the remote with the tray out and then press play with an out of region disc in) which is ideal for me because frequent trips to the Us by myself and my family on business give a ready supply of US discs. The player works very well most of the time and provides many hours of entertainment, and certainly low cost. However, i fell i should point out a few short comings... Read review

Wharfedale's Multi-Region Capability.
Review of Wharfedale 750 by  Samoorai

Advantages: Multi region capability
Disadvantages: Not the nicest looking player on the market

...The Wharfedale DVD 750 has, a im sure alot of you know, the capability to play DVD imports from any other country in the world, including the USA. To those of you who do not understand what this means, film producers decided to encode DVD's so you would not be able to run a UK (region 2) DVD on a US (region 1) DVD player, and obviously, the problem arises for us Brits when you reverse the problem. However, by simply having the disc tray on your Wharfedale ejected and pressing 0,1,2,3 on your DVD remote, the player is set to play imported films. I find this feature completely essential now as i have imported my last two DVD's. Advantages of getting import DVD's imclude better special features often, getting films before they are out over here (I got Fight Club before it has come out to buy over here, and The Green Mile before it has even... Wharfedale DS-A 243 HDMI dvd player
Review of Wharfedale DS-A 243 by  doowopinwales

Advantages: good picture - when it worked
Disadvantages: didn't work very often

...I bought a WHARFEDALE DS-A 243 from Argos. At first I was very pleased the HDMI picture was great. But on about the third attempt to load a disc it failed. It locked into 'loading' mode and could not be operated by the remote control. It had to be switched off and on at the wall to unlock it. (As I am bed ridden I need to use a remote control). It then worked once before locking again. After several further attempts I phoned Argos technical assistance who were unable to help. So it went back to Argos who replaced it with a new one. The new unit started off working fine and then it did exactly the same thing - refused to load and locked making the remote u/s. I emailed WHARFEDALE who didn't want to know. They referred me to Argos. The moral must be that you get what you pay for. I will now try a Philips DVP5960 and hope that's a bit... Read review

Wharfedale bargain TV
Review of Wharfedale KP 21 TK 210 G by  lolahx

Advantages: looks good, lots of features.
Disadvantages: 1 scart socket, little bit bulky.

...The Wharfedale KP 21 TK 210 G. 21 inch screen(54cm) with 54cm visible screensize. I got this tv from Ebay a few days ago for just 5 POUNDS!! It wasnt broken or damaged (I dont think the seller knew what they was talking about). This tv is for sale at Argos for 100pounds so i definately got a bargain. The picture wasn't that brilliant when i plugged an aerial into it but it still got all of the usual channels (1-5), it was just a bit fuzzy but still watchable. The sound is good aswell, it can go quite loud without sounding like its going to blow up. But you would expect good sound from wharfedale as there main products are audio. It has a headphone socket to the front of the tv and av socket to the side. Unfortunately, it only has 1 scart socket, but that wasnt a problem for me as i only use my freeview box for the scart... Wharfedale 750
Review of Wharfedale DVD750 by  leg-end

Advantages: great picture
Disadvantages: bit bulkier compared to most players

...I got my wharfedale back in 2001 after seeing one at a friends house, and was basically jealous of them having a dvd player, so went out and bought the model above theirs! It looks good, if somewhat bulky when seeing the new slimline versions, but is in a traditional black finish to match my aging black telly. Anyway, here's a few stats to get you going: Features: Region 1 and 2 playback (possible to make region free) Mp3 compatable Dolby Digital/MPEG outputs CD-R playback Aspect ratio selection Multi-angle NTSC playback Slow-motion Repeat play Zoom A-B repeat Onscreen menu Parental level setting Scart S-video output Composite video output Two stereo phono outputs Optical digital output Coaxial digital output Dimensions : 430(w) x 300(d) x 85(h)mm Weight : 4.2 kg Approximate street price : £180 (used... Wharfedale Ice Cool
Review of Wharfedale B239 ICE TAM QUAD by  Dexter2102

Advantages: Reasonably priced,Easy to Use
Disadvantages: Cannot use in the event of a power cut

...Cordless phones can always be a bit hit and miss but nowadays technology has overcome these "problems". I recently bought the Wharfedale B239 Ice DECT Phone I opted for the quad version meaning I could have a phone in every room in my house just about (My house isn't that small). The unit retails between £25-£50 depending on how many handsets you want in your home I opted for the quad which cost £45.00 at Argos and has an ice white look, as Wharefedale is an Argos brand When you first switch the phones on the good news is that they already pre-registered meaning that the phones are talking to the base unit so that in itself takes out a lot of hassle. Naming the phones is very easy using the standard menu button that is one of the first things I done naming them Kitchen, Lounge etc. Some of the features that come with this phone... Read review

Wharfedale DVDR24HD250
Review of Wharfedale DVDR24HD250 by  KeithRider

Advantages: Versatile machine at a bargain price
Disadvantages: Poor manual, some quirks in using it need getting used to

...Wharfedale DVDR24HD250 These machines are currently on sale at Argos for a bargain price of £79.99. For this you get an analogue tuner and a DVD recorder with a 240 GB hard drive. There is HDMI output, but I have not been able to test this yet as I have not bought an HDMI TV. Looking at the list of what it has and what it can do runs to a list of 40 items. I have tried to mention the most useful ones. At home, I have it fixed up to my VHS, my Sony Beta (yes - I still have a working one after 25 years!), a Virgin cable box, and a free Sky satellite box. I can record from all of these, plus the analogue terrestrial TV signal. The 50 page instruction manual could be better - as all the screen shots are in black and white and it is hard to see the details. I was ready for it, as I had owned a previous model. With DVDs, you can... Read review

Cheap good vibration
Review of Wharfedale M3 by  anth_harrison

Advantages: Cheap, compatable with alot of formats
Disadvantages: Vibration

...The first-ever DVD player and I bought was Goodman's which was free with the TV some time ago, which been one of the earlier DVD players and was not compatible with playing of the likes of CD-R and DVD-R. So an upgrade was required. After searching through various electrical shops, I came across his special offer on it Wharfedale M3 DVD Player, this was been sold for £99, which for this spec seemed like a bargain. Being familiar with the Wharfedale brand , I thought it would be a worthwhile taking it further look. Wharfedale are renowned for their excellence in speaker quality, and are now all moving into the electronic entertainment side of the business. The Wharfedale M3 DVD Player is a good entry point into the world of DVD offering all the standard features offered by DVD players. Finished in silver, the unit comes complete... Read review

Modernise your bedroom telly on the cheap
Review of Wharfedale LCD 2010 A by  Lizamabug

Advantages: Affordable, stylish, integrated freeview, great sound, good picture
Disadvantages: Not HD ready, Argos stopped stocking it

...Last year I'd been back at work a couple of months when I was shopping in Argos for a diddy sofa for my little one. I went in to spend £29.99 on the aforementioned diddy sofa and came out having spent over £500 on the sofa - along with 2 flat screen televisions. Yes really, I spent nearly £500 on televisions as an impulse buy! What on earth possessed me? Well actually, I spotted a bargain… The Wharfedale LCD 2010 AF would normally retail for £259.99 as it's a lightweight, flat screen television with built-in freeview and a 20" screen. Looking on the Argos site today I find that the cheapest equivalent available would set you back £229.99 for a 19" with similar specifications (Argos no longer appear to stock the Wharfedale 2010). Yet I managed to snap mine up for just £199.99 as an ex-display model - hence the impulse buy. I... Read review
