...Well Christmas Eve saw us left without a washing machine as ours decided that it wanted to pack up. This was a pain, as we wanted to get our last bit of washing done and out the way for the next day. Well we had to wait to get Christmas day out of the way and decided to wait till the sales got in full swing. Anyway it is now New Years Eve and there were plenty of places for us to look at now. Firstly we looked online to see what machines were on offer in the various stores, we looked at the usual, Dixons, Argos, Curry?s and Comet etc. Then we saw an ad on tv and went to the Miller Bros website to look the offer over. Our previous washing machine was also a Whirlpool and it lasted for about six years so we got a fair bit of use out of it. Rather than get it fixed and incur labour charges that can make up most of the bills we saw...

Whirlpool Washing Machine AWM328

Advantages: long reliable life
Disadvantages: basic washing machines

...Had a Whirlpool AWM 328 washing machine for nearly nine years and apart from a new control panel in its first year, used to just stop before starting spin cycle, never had another problem until just yesterday evening when in the middle of the spin cycle it started to make a horrible clanking sound and had to rush to turn it off. Looks like drum bearing has just gone and died. 8 years is pretty good going I think, and we do a lot of heavy full loads when son is home from uni, usually at least three in a row with no rest periods, this is not including the average of two washes a week that we normally do. Funny thing is that son had same washer left in house that he moved in to lasy January and that one died the same death just three weeks ago. Weird, or what. Anyway, I am currently on line just looking at the range of new Whirlpool...

Advantages: Takes a very big load and is quick

...I have owned this machine and its sister tumble dryer for seven years now and they have been in constant use. I have had absolutely no problems with either of them, they are the real 'workhorses' of the washing machine world. I had them serviced last week, just because I thought I should after so much use and the engineer couldn't find anything wrong. I love the fact that I can fit almost a whole binful in at a time and I love how quick the cycle is. I honestly could not go back to a 'normal' size washing machine. These have to be seen to be believed, they are big but I wouldn't be without them. The only disadvantage I have found is due to their size. They do not fit in all modern utility rooms. We had to discount several new houses we looked at as they wouldn't have fitted. That said, our present house just needed a bit...

(£170) Lets start with the technical stuff: Load capacity: 6kg Freestanding & vented Energy Efficiency: C Electronic sensor for controlled drying Front Loading Anti-crease function 60cm width (Standard Appliance Size) Ok I have had this tumble dryer for a while now and can honestly say that it has been one of the best buys I have made. The dryer is the vented type which means that you will have to have access to an externall wall to fit the outflow pipe to. The pipe and fittings are supplied in the box for fittment to the tuble dryer end but you will have to arrange your own external wall cover as these are not supplied. In our case this was not a problem as it was a direct replacement for a differnt dryer and as all fittings are of a standard size it was simply a case...

...I purchased my Whirlpool shortly before Xmas 2007 as a replacement for my old machine which had decided to give up on me at the worst possible time of year. Having now had it for almost four months, here is my opinion so far. Decision to buy The reason for going for this model was primarily cost driven. Being close to Christmas I wanted a brand that I had heard of, but at the same time getting away with paying as little as possible. This model was advertised for for just over £200 which seemed quite reasonable for a 1400 spin washer. Another incentive for me was ordering via Sainsburys on-line so at least my Nectar points got a bit of a boost. The Most Reliable Name In Washing Machines

Advantages: Its reliable with large capacity
Disadvantages: It may be a bit large for smaller homes or flats

...the name. Oh no! In fact, not to be horrible or insulting, but American doesn't really mean quality at all, sadly. But, because my Mother and Grandmother have used ONLY Whirlpool machines since I was a child. For the past 36 years, my mother has had three Whirlpool washing machines. And no others of any brand. It hasn't been necessary. And, I can only remember ever having repairs ONE time on ONE of those washers. The repair was a broken belt from wearing out. In fact, the ONLY reason she has ever had hers replaced is because the first was replaced by an updated model with modern features, even though it was still working fine itself. The second, became 20 years old, and she finally gave it to my brother when he grew up. I have no idea what he ever did with it. And, of course there is the one she has now. She bought this one...

Advantages: Queit, very good spin, good wash and overall excellent value!
Disadvantages: Can't really find one.

...A+ Energy efficiency, and while its only got a B rating on Spin, I do think it gives much better performance on that. Washing efficiency is given as A and I would agree with that one. Load weight is 5kg which is fairly standard for machines in this range. I had a Servis machine, and nothing but trouble from the moment we bought it. I have eventually relented and bought this Whirlpool as a direct replacement, costing £185-00 on offer from Co-op direct. I've immediately taken out the *8* year (yes, eight year) warranty for parts for just £25-00! Okay you still would have to pay for labour, but its pretty impressive to find a budget machine with such good warranty on its parts. It has done all we've asked of it so far - and is particularly quiet in operation, especially after the Servis machine I had. It has an anti-crease spin...
