I generally keep a couple of these mixes handy when we are travelling on our narrowboat, as sometimes we find ourselves in an area where shops are few and far between, bread seems to be the one staple that we run out of fairly regularly during our travels! The 495g pack will produce 1x 2lb loaf or 8 rolls. The only ingredient you need to add is water and even a 10 year old child can make it...in fact my 10 year old granddaughter has made it! Tesco Value White Bread Baguettes

Advantages: Tastes like fresh bread. Cheap.
Disadvantages: Packaging is not recyclable.

...I cannot get enough of these baguettes at the minute! I love freshly baked bread and although these aren't as good as the real thing they definetly taste fresher than normal bread. At 39p for the two baguettes I really think these are an absolute bargain! I have tried other more expensive part baked bread goods before and I really cannot tell the difference between the more expensive and this cheaper version. The best before date on the baguettes is usually quite long, however, you can freeze them if you want but have to defrost for 2 hours in the fridge if you do decide to do this. Mine aren't normally around long enough to need freezing!! The only packaging is a plastic wrapper so there is not a lot of rubbish to throw away. PACKAGING The packaging isn’t the most attractive one throughout the range of bread sold in Tesco, but it is a good image so that you can find it easily on any bread shelf of Tescos. The bag is made of transparent plastic with blue and white stripes running through it. The blue and white stripe motif is the emblem for Tesco value products, so watch out for those. The bag is sealed wit yellow tape at one end of the bag to keep it airtight. The use by date is also present on the yellow tape. Only hippies and gays ate brown bread, and there was certainly no such thing as wholemeal. Of course, I lived in Yorkshire fifteen years ago, so it might just have been us being a bit backward. But now, honestly, unless your loaf is caked in two inches of sunflower seeds and stuffed full of hard bits, people look at you like you are nothing but a stupid idiot. I hate that. ...Tesco value Sliced bread Well after my op on Tesco value beans what to follow but Tesco value sliced bread. Then you can make Tesco value beans on toast. I do not often eat value sliced bread. I sometimes buy one for the freezer if I am going away so that I have some bread when I get home without going to the shops. When Sleepydormouse was a student she lived on Value bread. It is cheap and filling for those on a low income.. Tesco value bread costs 19p for a loaf. Tesco value sliced bread is available as a large loaf thick or medium slice.. The thick sliced one has about 19 slices so 1p a slice not bad. . It is wrapped in a plastic bag with the Tesco value blue and red design, easily recognisable.. As I said I often have one in the freezer for emergencies. This bread is not available in frozen form at the supermarket...

...I received a bread maker as a birthday pressie last year; I also received a selection of bread flours. One was Wrights premium bread mix. Wrights make a selection of bread mixes cheese and onion bread, tomato bread and many others. But the Premium bread mix is just for a basic white bread I made this loaf up and often have a packet of this bread ready for emergencies, The 500g bag cost 58p from tesco's This Wrights premium bread mix is in a 500g bag. You can also buy larger 1500g bags. I have not noticed the larger bags anywhere though. The paper bag is green with a romantic picture of a wheat field with a couple of trees in the centre there is a picture of a lovely looking country white loaf. Inside the bag is everything you need to make a loaf all you need to do is add water and use your bread machine , or need it by hand...

...Tescos Value bread. Bought this the other day, not sure why but thought that we would give it a try, how bad could it be for 35p? The loaf itself is a good size and comes in the noticeable White and Red packaging. Upon opening the package there is a plain smell, nothing like a usual bread smell. The bread itself is a little tougher and has a damp doughy feel to it. You get around 15 slices in the 'Thick cut' loaf and my they are thick! And it has according to the blurb 105 calories per slice which to me seems a little high. Sandwiches; = Do not bother making any sandwiches with this bread, it is an odd off white in colour which is firstly unappetizing and secondly the bread tastes 'Heavy' and again 'Doughy'. Toast; It does make pretty good toast and one piece is very filling...
