The Old White Swan

Advantages: One of the nicest pibs in York, live music, Millionaire, massive toilets
Disadvantages: A little bit out of the way

...Here's number 5 in my short series about my pubs in York. The Old White Swan is one of my favourites, and in my opinion I definitely under-use it. Firstly, how to get there. From my general start point of the fountain in Parliament Street, head north-east towards Efe's kebab van. If you have any sense, stop there and get some food, and your photo taken (which will be posted on the van the following week). Incidentally, I rate Efe's 6 out of 5 for food. Anyway, from Efe's, head east down the street containing the F1 shop, and Cappucinos. Continue past Wine Rack, past Boots, and thw Old White Swan is on the left. On Fridays, there will be 2 bouncers. The large one with the waxed head is Andy - he's cool. Enter. The Old White Swan has distinct areas. There is a nice courtyard with vines and stuff in the centre, which is excellent...

The Swan Hotel - Newby Bridge, Cumbria

Advantages: Very tranquil, pretty setting and beautiful hotel
Disadvantages: Car park is about 500 yards from entrance - when it rains you get very wet!

...My partner and I stayed at The Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge last weekend and i felt compelled to share our experience with others... The hotel is located at the Southern tip of Lake Windermere and overlooks the River Leven. It is in an absolutely beautiful setting, is accessed via a small bridge and is set right back from the main road. I think in total it has 55 bedrooms, some of which are suites - but we opted for a standard double during our stay. We were in room 313 and this had a river view - as do all the odd numbered rooms i think. The room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfy (although very soft). The bathroom was perfectly pleasant, although decorated in a slightly 'old fashioned' way. You get a few select Sky Channels in the rooms and also broadband is available. Decent hotel in the middle of Stafford

Advantages: Nice rooms, friendly service, good food
Disadvantages: Location might be noisy at the weekend

Advantages: Peaceful and friendly

Whites Hotel Wexford

Advantages: location
Disadvantages: price

...A good hotel based in the centre of wexford. It is close to the sea front about 5 mins walk, close to the theatre and it has nights of entertainment at the hotel too. The rooms are of a standard and it was clean when i visited it there, the hotel is close to public transport in the town. The hotel has a good bar and restaurant, although the menus may not be to everyones taste but there are plenty of restaurants in the town that provide choice. The rooms are ensuite and the hotel can be classed as family friendly but i did not see any families there at the time. the hotel has a cyrotheraphy centre where you can freeze in an ice chamber - supposed to help recover from injuries etc. The welsh rugby team have used the chambers as part of the recent pre season training. White Hart Hotel in Lincoln

Advantages: Close to Historical Landmarks, Friendly Staff, Good Rooms, Stylish

...I am writing his review from my White Hart hotel room and in my opinion this is quite an above average hotel. I arrived here with my family (Mum and Dad) yesterday. It was pretty easy to find and get here from Leeds where we spent the day out, just off the A15, but in the next 2 hours when we check out we will be taking the A46 to return home (Reading). The hotel provides their own parking just round the side of the hotel, with a small bay which cars strictly shouldn't stay in at all, but seems to be used by taxis to drop people off. Upon arrival we were greeted by very pleasant reception staff who knew a lot about the local area. Asking about local restaurants they informed us about the various Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, English Pubs and all about the restaurant they have which was very helpful. melia white house hotel

...My partner and i were recently in london for the weekend so i looked up expedia to see which hotels we could stay in and i decided on the melia white house as i thought it looked nice and was in a medium price range. The hotel is conveniently located as it is only about 3-5 minutes walk from the great portland street tube station which means that it is easy to get to other parts of london from the hotel. Also it is not far from regents park and london zoo is a 30 minute walk. We also walked to the camden market as it was only about 10-15 minutes walk from london zoo. We also found that the hotel was easy to get to from heathrow airport as you can take the tube and you 0only have to make one change of tube line. When we arrived at the hotel it looked exactly like it did on the website with the reception area looking grand...

Disadvantages: Not central - other than for the football

...I have stayed at this hotel on three occasions, mainly through attending work related conferences at the attached Bolton Wanderers Football Club. To look at from the outside it is a tad strange, a football stadium with a hotel built into one side - please don't be put off, if you are not a Bolton fan, as soon as you enter the hotel lobby you can forget all about the beautiful game. If you are there for the football, there is absolutely no better location! The lobby is an impressive affair with large reception desk, the staff at which I have always found efficient, and a beautiful imposing sweeping staircase. Once checked in, it is up to the rooms, but on the way please check out those great carpets that flow effortlessly and seemingly join free around the communal areas and down the corridors. Swanning out for a meal

...One of my favourite ways to while away an evening with friends is to go out for a meal and a chat. Some years ago a group of us formed a little dining club and every couple of weeks we like to go out to dine in a range of restaurants within easy travelling distance of Ipswich. A favourite of ours for many years has been the Swan at Westerfield, in a little village just to the North of Ipswich.
