Whittard of Chelsea - a haven for a tea or coffee addict
Advantages: Friendly staff, good product range, frequent sales
Disadvantages: Can be expensive; ranges can sell out sometimes
...I have always been a tea enthusiast, and I think it tastes best when it?s made in a teapot and enjoyed from a pretty teacup or mug. It?s even better presented on a tea-tray with a proper milk jug.
I consequently enjoy popping into Whittard?s whenever I?m looking for anything crockery-related, or even just to browse.
They sell a wide selection of crockery: cups and saucers, mugs, small plates, dinner plates, bowls, teapots, jugs, glasses, plastic picnic-ware, and anything else of that type that you?d need. They stock a number of different ranges at a time, and most the ranges seem to be sold over a fairly long period, meaning that a collection can be bought gradually, although they are eventually discontinued.
As well as crockery, Whittard?s sells a variety of tea, infusions, coffee, hot chocolate, sweets and chocolates. There are...

Whittards supreme coffee for the discerning buyer
Advantages: Whittards is coffee and tea, and chocolate
Disadvantages: None
...Let's get one thing straight. Whittards is not exactly cheap. But that's not the point, is it? If someone wants to buy Cheap-o-blend Coffee ("friends, this coffee is guaranteed made from the finest floor sweepings of a Columbian coffee warehouse!") then they will probably not want to even consider visiting Whittards.
Because Whittards is reassuringly up market in pricing. Though the careful shopper can get some real bargains, if they shop carefully.
Whittards is chock full of fantastic varieties of coffee. Almost every type of coffee thst you could ever think of is there, within the walls of your Whittard shop. Well, OK, almost all types of coffee, as I have never seen Wolf coffee or Civet cat coffee on sale at a Whittards, though I am not really sure I would want to in any case. (Those types of coffee are made from beans that...

This is precisely my cup of tea ....
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I have an addiction . If I don't get my fix every day, I start to become irritable, snapping at anyone who comes near me . I start to shake, my eyes start to roll back in my head, and my head spins on my shoulders like that girl from the exorcist .
Well, maybe I am exaggerating , but I do have a bit of a tea addiction - I even have penpals with whom I swap teabags . It should therefore probably come as no surprise then that I'm a frequent visitor to my local branch of Whittards, located on Bridlesmith Gate, near to the Broadmarsh shopping centre .
Lets have a look in the window first shall we - here we see a colourful display of instant fruit teas, the artistic containers stylishly stacked, with several cups and mugs set around them. Its all very colourful and attractive, especially when you also see the sign in lovely big letters...

I'm dreaming of a nice cuppa
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I love a nice cup of tea - and often drink up to ten cups a day . The thing is, I know that isn't good for me, and I know especially that the caffeine isn't really going to help me sleep at night .
So, I try as much as I can to stop drinking tea at night, and to switch my normal teas for herbal blends that generally contain little or no caffeine . The trouble is, a lot of herbal teas lack substance - but that isn't the case with Whittards Dreamtime Tea .
Now, Whittard tea is probably not going to be available in your local supermarket . If you're lucky, like me, you live in a large city with a Whittard shop - a little haven you can duck into on a stressful day where they always have one hot coffee sample and one iced tea sample on the go . In fact, it was inside the shop that I first tried 'Dreamtime' - a little polystyrene cup filled...

I'm not nuts about this cuppa
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: It lacks a lot
...I love my coffee nearly as much as I do my chocolate, so when I received a selection of coffee's from around the world from my son as part of my Christmas I was chuffed to say the least. The box contained 12 different coffees of varying strengths, and was a product from the Whittards range of which I am very familiar and also very fond.
Attached to the bottom of the box was two smaller packages not very well wrapped but enough to disguise them. One was Whittards Hazelnut Coffee and the other Whittards Vanilla Coffee.
Both were is jars containing 75g of coffee. They are quite nice jars and looking through the glass I could see the contents. It looked just like any other instant coffee, granules of varying sizes and in varying shades of brown. On opening the jar it was evident that the contents were not the same, a waft of nutty...

Darn my addictive personality
Advantages: Taste, smell, just about everything
Disadvantages: Possibly cost
..., and I have been hooked ever since, much to his disgust as I have now turned him into my tea slave!
Background
The product is sold at the shop Whittard of Chelsea which is an international seller of tea and coffee products, and other products which are used to make hot beverages. The company was founded in 1886 by Walter Whittard who was a merchant in London at the time, and although it originally only sold tea they have since expanded the company. The store has an estimated 126 shops in the United Kingdom and website means that global sales are possible. So basically, it is not tea that you can buy in a supermarket...
Their philosophy as they state it is simple: '"...to introduce as many people as possible to the world of tea and coffee..." and is a philosophy I can well agree with! Sensible people...
So, what is it?
Well...

Review of Whittard Mango Flavoured Teabags
|
A misleading first impression
Advantages: tastes lovely with cakes or chocolate
Disadvantages: if prepared wrong, it tastes rather disappointing
...If I ever left the United Kingdom, the place I would probably miss the most is Whittard?s. In my humble opinion, there is no other tea company that produces such an extensive and fine selection of delicious teas. As I am a creature of habit, I usually stick to my favorite teas, which happen to be Mango and Earl Grey. On a recent trip to Whittard?s, however, I was urged to be a little more adventurous in my selection process and was guided towards a box of tea bags labelled ?Vanilla?.
♠ The product ♠
Like every flavour in the Whittard?s tea bag range, this product comes in a rectangular dark box containing 50 round tea bags. On the front of the box you wull see an artistic rectangular picture with different shades of beige and yellow in the background and a long brown vanilla bean in the foreground.
Whittard?s tea...

Tamper Tamper
Advantages: Good size and weight easy to clean
Disadvantages: None
....
Cost :-
My Gaggia Classic that i wrote a review on has a 58 cm diameter portafilter this is a commercial size one, normally home machines have the 53 cm portafilter.. The plastic tamper that came with the machine was OK but did not seem sturdy enough, so started shopping around for a new one.
Prices varied hugely from £5 up to a staggering £60. Just as i picked the one i like Christmas arrived and guess what, my daughter had bought me the Whittard of Chelsea Stainless Steel Tamper and at the bargain price of £5.
Tamper :-
The tamper is shiny stainless steel, it does show up finger prints and marks a lot but with it only being a small item it is easily cleaned. Some surface scratches have appeared on the tamper heads but these are only superficial and have not affected performance.
The weight is 125 grammes and the height is 6.5 cm...

Winter Warmer for Wildlife
Advantages: Warming, flavoursome
Disadvantages: Not necessarily a flavour you'd like!
...The north wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will the robin do then, poor thing?
It will put the kettle on and make itself a mug of Whittard?s mulled wine flavour instant tea drink. For as any ornithologist knows this is what keeps the robin?s breast red. Paddington Bear had his marmalade sandwiches, Mr Strong had his 50 boiled eggs for breakfast (as Cool Hand Luke proved ? it can be done), Winnie the Pooh had his honey but robins need mulled wine tea to keep them going through the long cold winters.
PACKAGING
The tea comes in a 500g round tub, which once empty is kept by the robin for storing nuts in. There is a metal inner cover to keep the granules fresh and the robin normally has to ask his friend the woodpecker to open this for him.
There is a rather cheesy picture of a happy couple with a dog...

Neuron Frazzling Machine For Hardcore Addicts!
Advantages: Cheap and simple to use.
Disadvantages: Only for serious caffeine users
...stovetop espresso makers come into their own.
They are common in most of Europe and are considered a kitchen essential. Here they are not so easy to find but are becoming more so. This review is on the variety sold by Whittards of Chelsea.
It is basically a percolator which comes in three parts; the bottom which holds the water, a perforated middle insert for the coffee and the top into which the espresso eventually bubbles. The top and bottom pieces screw together and form an airtight seal by means of a rubber ring which is attached to the top piece.
You fill the bottom with water up to a visible ridge on the inside. Then you put your coffee of choice in the perforated insert and slip it into the bottom. There is a tube attached to the insert which reaches the water. Finally screw the top on tight and place on any type of hob...
