Whoopi Goldberg at her best ( Updated )

Advantages: An Hillarious film with the brilliant Whoopi Goldberg!
Disadvantages: none that I can think of !

...Whoopi Goldberg is probably best known for her Sister Act films; however this film should not be over looked! 'Jumpin Jack Flash' was directed by Penny Marshall (Her directorial debut) of ' Big' and ' Awakenings' fame. The film itself was out in 1986 and released on DVD in 2004. Plot Terri Doolittle (Whoopi Goldberg) is a bank terminal operator bored with her job who is contacted through her computer by an unknown source! The message is coded, but once she breaks it a secret agent known only as ' Jumpin Jack Flash' (Jonathan Price) needs her help to escape Russia and return home! He shortly reveals that he's a British Spy trapped in a hostile Russia ans she is his only means of escape. Classic Whoopi Goldberg

Advantages: Good perfomances, positive plot
Disadvantages: nothing groundbreaking!

..., positive and cheerful family film that can be enjoyed from about 8+. It has great themes such as love, friendship, charity and justice. It offers a positive view of the nature of the Catholic Church and life as a nun, while gently proving that change from tradition can often enhance, rather than destroy! Sister Act stars Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy and Harvey Keitel, and is available from Touchstone Home Video. There are good solid performances from all in question, most notably Maggie Smith and Whoopi Goldberg. There is nothing ground-breaking here; only good, solid family fun that will warm your heart, and of course fantastic music! Thanks for reading!...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Numb: The Harris Goldberg Story

Advantages: Incredibly dark, superbly funny, an exquisite display of acting ability.
Disadvantages: A little cheesy at times, glamorises depersonalization disorder a little.

...feature is hearing what Harris Goldberg has to say; hearing how personal the film is to him and how much 'Numb' truly matters and means to him as a movie. Due to the nature of the film and the fact that it is an autobiographical account of Harris Goldberg's own life; once more the extra feature works really well here and provides for great post-viewing entertainment. The extras provided here really help you to understand and warm to the film even more, the extra features are well thought out and as intelligently put together as the film itself which truly is absolutely excellent to find. One final bonus feature here is the obligatory theatrical trailer. Quite why these appear on the vast majority of DVDs out there I'm not too sure; who really wants to watch a trailer of a film they've already seen in full? The commentary is brilliant...

...Whoopi Goldberg stars in Sister Act and she plays the girlfriend, and a sassy lounge singer, of a 'Mobster' guy played by Harvey Keitel. One day she goes to return an unwanted present to him, to find that she has beome witness to a murder after seeing his henchmen shooting the driver. She goes on the run trying to stay alive and ends up going to the police. Lt. Eddie Salver decides to put Delores Van Cartier(Whoopi Goldberg) in to witness protection and finds the perfect place for a lounge singer to hide... A quiet Convent!!! Delores gets placed in the convent and given the name of Sister Mary Clarence and she gets up to all sorts of mischief before they make her choir leader in charge of getting the choir to actually sing in tune!!! Delores is not liked by the head nun played by Maggie Smith as Delores is too 'Common' to be placed...
