Grubby Pub Grub
Advantages: Serves a nice pint
Disadvantages: Terrible grub
...After a busy day shopping at Ikea and M&S and buying nothing as usual we needed a bite or more to eat. Church View Inn is situated in a pleasant setting next to the A5080 main road in North Widnes and not too far from the M62. As the late afternoon sun was beginning to set and my tummy was starting to rumble the Church View Inn did look rather picturesque as we parked the Astra in the amply spaced car park. The pub seemed pleasant and warmly inviting - apart from the red faced local country bumpkin stretched out on the steps of the main entrance and whom I partially had to step over.
The pub claims to focus on diners and families and on first impressions this seems to be the case. There are plenty of tables and chairs available to ensure you?re able to find a seat throughout the day. Outside there is a small patio area with umbrellas...

I'm Widnes 'til I die !!
Advantages: : A GREAT TEAM A GREAT GAME AND THE PLAYERS HAVE SOME NICE BUMS
Disadvantages: We need to be back in the Super league
...Just go and have a look at my name on here.
OK, did you see it ?
OLDCHEM
Just whe does that name come from do you think?
Am I a one time pharmasist getting rather long in the tooth?
Well I may be getting rather long in the tooth but I was never a pharmasist.
Where it actually comes from is from the wonderful Widnes Rugby League Football Club!!!
Widnes Vikings RLFC is a professional rugby league club based in Widnes, Cheshire. ( Really we are Lancastrians but somtime in the 70's the government moved our boundary!!) They playnow in the Co-Operative Championship, which is the second tier of European Rugby League. and their old nickname ( before Sky ruined, I mean took over, rugby league and brought in names like the Widnes Vikings) was 'The Chemics' after the chemical industry in Widnes.
So I am an OLD CHEMic...

Motorbike Transportation Via Shiply.com
Advantages: Using the reverse auction system allows you to get an amazing price for a job!
Disadvantages: None...provided you do your homework and find a decent courier.
...I wanted to arrange a motorbike shipment from Widnes near Liverpool to Wickford in Essex in early November 2009. I'd bought the bike on EBay but did not want the problem of collecting the bike myself. I searched for couriers on EBay and came across Shiply.com....all I can say is brilliant. The site is incredibly easy to use and having listed the job on their site, I started to receive quotes for performing the job. As it's a reverse action site (lowest bid wins) it meant that the cost of transporting my mike tumbled from an original bid of £200 to £70 in a few days. The site clearly states that it is your responsibility to ensure the courier has the correct insurances etc. So after selecting the courier I wanted (having reviewed the feedback given by other users - this is absolutely key to getting a good service provider), I accepted...

To salt and shake or not to salt and shake, that is the question
Advantages: Nostalgic look at crisps
Disadvantages: Doesn't really work
...vague memories of the salt often being damp. The crisps themselves were a lot thicker and larger than the new variety - and you certainly got more than you do now.
I remember how sometimes the potato had doubled over resulting in a very hard lump.
Towards the end of the 50's there was a new kid on the block as Golden Wonder started manufacturing crisps, in fact in the early 60's a Golden Wonder crisp factory opened in my then home town of Widnes.
Golden Woner's crisps came minus the little blue packet and for the first time crisps were referred to as 'Ready Salted Crisps'.
As kids we all loved Golden Wonder crisps as they were only 3d (old money!!) in comparison to Smith's 6d.
In 1967 the first "ready-salted" crisps were made by Smiths.
Then revolution hit the industy and in 1962 ( the year I started Grammar School...

Harry LOVES this film and watches it every night when he stays - no matter how long the stay. This film is very personal to us as it was filmed in my home town (where I lived at the time) Widnes, and actually filmed in what was my son...

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GINGER OWEN. HAMSTER EXTRODINAIRE .
Advantages: Lovable and affecionate little animals.
Disadvantages: None
...On the 30th November 2008 Brenda and Bob Hamster got together in Warrington; they put on a bit of Barry White, dimmed the lights and the results were six ickle baby hamsters.
On 16th December 2008 Ginger Owen and his one sister and four brothers were born.
Ginger Owen (the image of his Mum) came to live with us in Lancaster as companion to Sammy the tortoise.
Named Ginger Owen - because a) he was ginger and b) after my cousin, Ray Owen and nicknamed Ginger Owen ? who was a rugby player for Widnes R.L.F.C many moons ago- he is a Syrian ( or golden) hamster. As he is a Syrian hamster, Ginger prefers to live on his own ? if you want hamsters that can live together you need to buy Russian dwarf hamsters as they prefer to live in pairs or groups.
Hamsters are great pets for all ages. They are cute, friendly, don?t smell...

Presenting... Me!
Advantages: Not relevant
Disadvantages: Not relevant
...studied French, Spanish, Politics, History and General Studies (as I had to do that last one). I did them all at both AS-level and A-level. For my AS-levels I got As in all subjects. I also, as part of my Spanish course, did a Spanish GCSE and got an A* on that. I intend to go to Manchester University in September (a- level results depending) to study English law and French law. I?m keeping everything crossed!
Hair colour: Well its kind of darkish brown.
Eye colour: I have hazel coloured eyes.
Where I live: At the moment I live in good old Widnes, which is about twenty minutes drive outside of Liverpool and thirty from Manchester. We are sat right in the middle of the two.
Where I was born: I was in fact born at Whiston Hospital, which is quite a big hospital on the outskirts of Merseyside.
Height: I am 6?3? so I am...

Whether or not to try it. Don't want to stir things up here!
Advantages: Very cheap food and drink
Disadvantages: Can be shabby and very busy
...'up market' pubs, but they are very handy when you are in town for a quick, reasonably priced lunch.
MY EXPERIENCES
I have used Wetherspoon pubs quite a lot but I have only ever been in three of them :-
1. THE PREMIER, WIDNES, CHESHIRE
2. THE ERIC BARTHOLOMEW, MORECAMBE, LANCASHIRE
3. THE GREEN AYRE, LANCASTER, LANCASHIRE
THE PREMIER, WIDNES, CHESHIRE
This branch is in the town where I used to live, I have only ever used it twice - once of an evening and once of a lunchtime.
The Premier is housed in the former Premier cinema, which closed in the1960s, it opened as a Wetherspoons on 20 Jun 2001.
The outside of the building still looks very much like a cinema, it is situated in the main high street.
It is several years since I visited of an evening, but as I recall everything was fine, there were a party of around...

It's not all grim up north, not with a ball to suck on.
Advantages: Unique and famous sweet
Disadvantages: Could be a choking hazard
...'s the the cold, frosty January Sunday I've stood on the terraces at Naughton Park, sucking Uncle Joes and cheering on the Chemics.
An many's the old Cherry & White supporter at Central Park who's choked on an Uncle Joe's when Wigan have been beaten by a far superior team like Widnes (guess where I'm from then!!)
But a true Pie Eater could think of no better way to shuffle off this mortal coil than standing in the pouring rain, watching their team play a real game and sucking on Uncle Joe's balls!!
THE HISTORY
The founder of the company William Santus, was born on July 27th in 1873 in Wigan - and like most of his town's folk, grew up in poverty and was the son of a miner.
Eventually he had his own fruit and vegetables stall on Wigan Market
When he married Ellen Sedden she started making sweets to sell as a sideline on the corner...
