...have a problem with the unit freezing but a recent firmware upgrade cured this problem. Also pressing the "lock keys" button at the top of the handset used to cause it to reset however this has been rectified by a firmware update. Overall this is a massively competent real alternative to the Ipod and should be considered by anyone looking for a feature heavy portable media player but avoided by those put off by its size or unfamiliar interface. Plugins can be purchased to enjoy this unit to the full extent priced in Euros and available from the Archos website they do extend the features greatly ( Web browser allowing the unit to use its Wifi and an access point to become internet enabled), though without them it does not prevent it from being a serious contender....

Archos 605 Wifi all round reveiw.

Advantages: Great screen quality and size, built in speaker and stand.
Disadvantages: The only downside is that it is fragile, and can be hard to get used to the on screen keyboard.

Advantages: I can manage my life and work through Access!
Disadvantages: Its really hard to get used to, patience required!

The Archos 705 WIFI Media Player

Advantages: Touch screen, large memory, great screen resolution, wireless internet.
Disadvantages: Maximum volume could be better through the in-built speakers

...The Archos 705 WIFI is probably one of my favourite purchases of the last 18 months. For its fantastically wide range of features including a touch screen, wireless internet, hard drive video storage (recordings can be made directly from a tv), photo storage and a great music library, this is the best value for money Multi-media player I have come across. The Archos comes with lots of accessories including a car headrest mounting case which is great for when your trying to entertain the kids in the back of the car on long journeys. Its memory is around 40gb which is quite large for its size and allows you to store thousands of songs and around many hours of videos. The resolution is also extremely impressive....

...I ordered my Archos 605 80gb wifi from curry's digital and went to collect in store. After the first charge which takes forever using the supplied usb connector (48 hours for the charge light to flash fully charged) I was ready to start using my player. One of the first things i discovered is that to get maximum usefulness out of the 605 you will need to hand over more of your hard earn cash. these include cinema plug ins, web browser around 20 euro's each. Then if you wish to use the player to play videos on your tv or record from a video source you will need to shell out around a further £50 for the DVR station. This I seriously recommend as it charges the 605 when docked much quicker than the usb cable and allows you to charge it without a computer.
