Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

Advantages: Interesting
Disadvantages: Terrain, Cash only for many things once inside

...Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park This has all the makings of a great family day out, but I will begin with negatives first. The overflow car park is in a hilly field opposite the attraction, on a busy drizzly rainy bank holiday day like the day we went, you might end up with a couple of issues trying to get your vehicle out if the weather turned into torrential rain. However there are quite a few helpful parking attendants, some driving diggers around. The attendants are however very organized in getting people parked, but you could end up a few hundred meters away from the attraction and on a grassy hill, so bare this in mind if you are coming with a pregnant wife, young children who need push chairs, or infirm elderly relative, and on a family bank holiday outing you might have all three. I am also afraid navigating...

Getting up close and personal with wildlife

Advantages: A good day out, can get close to lots of the animals, adventure play area
Disadvantages: Entry fee a little excessive

...Paradise Wildlife Park is situated in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. It is easy to get to by car (junction 25 off the M25) and is well signed up. The park have also set up a free shuttle service from Broxbourne train station to Paradise Wildlife park - just call the park when you arrive at the station and they'll come and collect you in a mini bus! The park is open all year round (March - October: 9.30am - 6.00pm. November - February: 10am - 5pm). Tickets cost £13.00 for adults, £10.00 for children (2-15 years), £10.00 for senior citizens, £7.00 for guests with disabilities, £22.00 for a family of 2 and £44.00 for a family of 4. Infants under 2 go free. The park is passionate about conservation, charity and educating children about animals and the importance of conservation (they invite schools to the park aswell as visiting schools...

A Wonderful Wildlife Encounter

Advantages: Great animals, good 'hands on' approach
Disadvantages: None really, except if you don't like birds

...The next stop on my review-tour of the Isle of Wight is Seaview Wildlife Encounter. Formerly known as The Flamingo Park, the wildlife encounter is located in the sunny seaside town of Seaview. I've visited twice in the last few years, and it is a great day out. **About the Park & Location** Seaview is on the Eastern side of the Island, not far from Ryde up the coast, and Sandown down the coast. The park's main attraction was, for some years, its collection of Flamingo's, hence the name. However, I believe the name was changed a couple of years ago to Seaview Wildlife Encounter, so that it's clear that it is not only flamingo's there. The park is relatively large, so you should plan to spend the day there, however if you do find that you're finished before the day is over, it's only a short walk or drive to the lovely, sandy...

Country Park With Animals in Stunning Scenery

Advantages: great views, nice and well managed site, variety of things to do
Disadvantages: not very impressive selection of animals for the admission charge

...Auchingarrich is located a couple of miles south of Comrie, seven miles west of Crieff and about half an hour drive from Perth. It's a "wildlife centre" which usually seems to be a code for a farm with a few animals (some wild-ish, some very much domesticated) thrown in. Auchingarrich is more of a country park with animals (mostly wild-ish) thrown in, set in an extensive area of Highland Perthshire countryside. **Getting There** We live about 10 miles south of Perth and when I looked up directions, each of the sources I consulted (AA route planner, Google maps, Garmin Sat-Nav) suggested a different route. I chose the Garmin route which takes off A9 and goes through Braco and then across country to arrive in Auchingarrich from the south rather than going via A85, Crieff and Comrie. This proved to be a good decision as...

Orana Wildlife Park

Advantages: Hands on Experience
Disadvantages: Bit out of the way - however, then no fun for the animals !

...Brilliant..... Orana Park, set on 80 hectares of park like grounds is nearer to Christchurch Airport than the centre of town. It is about a 25 minute car journey from the city centre. Car Parking is available outside. A bike track (moutain biking) is opposite so another alternative is that you could hire a bike from town, cycle to Orana Park (be about an hours ride) and then have an hours ride round McCleans Island. A shuttle bus is available from centre of town (check out the visitor centre in Cathedral Square). Anyway, Orana Park is one of the best I have ever visited. Check out; http://www.oranawildlifepark.co.nz $19 for adults, $7 for school age kids but $45 for family (2 adult and 3 kids). Can pay extra for a trip in the lion feeding truck - about $13 each for adults. Open from 10am till 5pm. Get there early so you...

Cotswold On The Cheap!

Advantages: Loads of animals, cheap, they are involved in conservation projects
Disadvantages: Dosg are not allowed in all section

...I recently had a week away in Gloucestershire with my best friend and our dogs. We stayed in a little cottage and planned to see as many attractions as we could in a week. While looking though a brochure of all the local attractions, I spotted one called Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens and was really pleased to see that we were allowed to take the dogs with us for a day out. History In 1923 the Manor House and Estate (that is now the park) were purchased by Colonel Heyworth-Savage and when he died in 1948, the estate was passed to his grandson John Heyworth who is the current owner. In 1969, he decided to open the gardens to the public. The Victorian Manor House that dominates the park is a listed building. Cotswold Wildlife Park is set in 160 acres of gardens and houses an amazing collection of birds, reptiles and mammals...

ANIMAL PARK WITH THE "CUTE" FACTOR!

Advantages: You Will Get To See Animals You Normally Couldn't !
Disadvantages: Need To Have A Car To Get there !

...with the week in order we set a day for going there and were very much looking forward to it.The very next day was such a beautiful day ,we decided to go,and promptly set off. THE WILDLIFE AND FARM PARK! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black Isle Wildlife And Farm park is located North East of Inverness, and unfortunately you need a car to get there,as it is off the beaten track, (please see below for directions). Once you get there however, you will certainly not be disappointed. The park is completely independently run,and relies heavily on tourists and bodies through the gates, for all of its running costs. The park has approximately 20 acres of land, and houses animals of all shapes and sizes including, Ilamas,Rhea,Alpaca, and wallabies. It also has a good sized reptile and hatchery building. It is open all year round, although during the winter...

Disappointing, Although Has Potential

Advantages: Set in breathtaking scenery
Disadvantages: Expensive for what they offer. Not suitable for everyone.

...We wanted to make Easter Sunday a big family day out, but having such a wide range of ages, tastes and abilities to cater for I was struggling a bit to find something to suit all without any moans. I had recently heard a lot of good things about Auchingarrich Wildlife Park by Comrie, near Crieff in Perthshire. I had a look at their website and thought it sounded quite good. Lots of lovely animals to walk around and look at, something which could be done slowly for the older members of our party but at the same time keeping the younger ones occupied; a coffee shop, definitely a good thing for the older members, a good refuelling stop and some warmth if it was cold; a shop, toilets, picnic areas and play areas. Could this be the right choice? I sounded everyone out and all seemed to be pleased with the choice, so it was decided we would...

I fed the tigers by hand!

Advantages: Lots of big cats
Disadvantages: A bit far away for us!

...Last Christmas Dave bought me a fantastic present - the chance to feed tigers by hand! I am a full time carer to my mom who has Vascular Dementia and so he always tries to get something really special for me (bless him!) as I don't get chance to go out much. I have always loved the big cats so this was definitely a winner!! The experience would take place at Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire which was our first problem as we live in North Wales. When our nephew invited us to his wedding in Dorset we decided to make a week of it while mom was in respite and visit the Park, a couple of theme parks (reviews coming soon!) and then go on to the wedding. Getting There We were based in Basingstoke, as you already know because you've all read my last review (LOL), so we headed towards London and travelled clockwise on the M25. We...

Take a walk on the wild side

Advantages: A great fun day out for the family
Disadvantages: Older kids might get bored

...I was invited out for the day with my friend, her husband, her friend who I had never met and her daughter who was 3. I don't get out much so jumped at the chance. I had previously been to the Cotswold Wildlife Park but not since a school trip when I was at primary school. So I knew that I'd not remember any of it so it would be a good day out. The Cotswold Wildlife Park is 2 miles from Burford on the A361. It is easy to find and there are plenty of brown signposts pointing you in the right direction. Those coming further afield than me would need to know it is off the A40 half way between Oxford and Cheltenham. On entering the park you pay at a kiosk. When we arrived there was a bit of a queue but at least you're sat down! Once you have paid you can then park. We were lucky, as we got there not long after it had opened and we...
