Soho Black does Macys

Advantages: wide range of items, the prices
Disadvantages: you really need to spend alot of time in here

...No trip to New York would be complete without a visit to the famous Macy's department store. Macy's takes up the whole block between 7th Ave and Broadway. Given it's proximity to hotel I was staying in it was always going to be paid at least one visit during my time in New York. The store on West 34th Street is the companies flag ship store. Macy's has 200 other stores around the USA. Macy's was founded by Rowland Macy in October 1857, from the humble beginnings of a storefront in the lower regions of Manhattan it has now become a worldwide department store, famed for it's" Thanksgiving Parade" which was first started in the 20's by some immigrant staff consisting of a few floats which meandered it's way throw Manhattan watched by 10,000 people. Today the Thanksgiving Parade is one of the top New York events. It is thought that...

Review of Macy´s (New York)

Macy's

Advantages: choice, discounts
Disadvantages: choice! slow service

...We arrived in a very wet and windy New York, what to do? Our hotel was situated more or less next door to Macy's department store so you got it, we went shopping! The first striking thing about Macy's is the sheer size of the place, a full block in length and upward of 7 floors, it really is a shopaholics dream. First port of call for international visitors should be the Visitors centre, situated on the first floor. Here, on the production of id, you will be given a discount card which entitles you to 11% off the ticketed prices, (but doesn't include franchised counters like most of the perfume dept) this is very useful as 8.25% tax is added to the ticket price when you get to the till, so if like me maths isnt your strong point then it saves a lot of working out. (in as much as you know you will pay slightly less than the marked...

The Trouble With Being Myself - Macy Gray

Advantages: Vocally distinguishable&stunning, musically funky,R&B, smooth.Lyrically honest&insightful.
Disadvantages: No where near as good as her earlier stuff. Some weak points in the album.

...The third album by American R&B/soul singer Macy Gray 'The Trouble With Being Myself' was released in 2003. This album has recieved good critical acclaim dispite the fact that it wasn't a major success and this just goes to show that sometimes what works critically speaking might not persuade demanding music fans. I think the reason for this is that artists like Macy Gray shoot to fame mainly because they are really different. They come at a time when no-one else is doing much new musically speaking and they really rock our worlds. The problem seems to be maintaining a longevity in their careers. Although she most definitely will have some loyal fans-and deservingly so-I doubt whether she will attract enough new following to keep her afloat in the future. Having said that, this album is by no means bad. It features the singles...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Robbie Williams Live At Knebworth "Without Me" : (

Advantages: An Excellent Live Album!
Disadvantages: None!

...Hell is gone and heaven's here, There's nothing left for you to fear Shake your arse come over here Now scream! I'm a burning effigy Of everything I used to be You're my rock of empathy, my dear "So come on let me entertain you" "Let me entertain you"! Reasons For Purchasing: Well "Let me entertain you" with my review! I am a huge fan of the Pop Star Robbie Williams and I have every single album he has ever released in my huge CD collection. I think most people are aware who this great star is, but I will include a little bit of information about him, for those who do not in the next paragraph. Robbie Williams was born on the 13th February 1974, in England, in a little town called Stoke-on-Trent. His pop career started when he was just sixteen years old, when he was chosen to be included in a UK boy...

On how Macy Is

Advantages: Some excellent songs, and a great voice
Disadvantages: Not quite as great as it promised to be

...When I first heard Macy Gray I was awestruck – here was a singer with talent and a really distinctive style, who, justifiably this time, had become the “next big thing”. It seemed to me that she was one of that elite group of artists that only comes along once every decade or so, and sounds so different from anything that’s gone before (I’m thinking of Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, The Clash, possibly Beck), and might even change the course of pop. Since then I’ve listened to her album a lot, I’ve seen her live, and read and heard a lot of opinions about her (I especially liked Fat Boy Slim’s view that she’s living on Planet Macy, or, shall we say, a little on the mad side!). Now, I’ve sort of got used to her being around, and it’s time for a reassessment. Macy...

William Blake's works

Advantages: Beautifully written poems concerning the effects of innocence and experience
Disadvantages: The language is often hard to read without concentration

...In his poems, William Blake has a number of underlying messages riddled in them. He seems to agree and disagree with certain things in a number of his poems which I will now discuss. In Songs of Experience, the poem called The Garden of Love shows some of the things that Blake seems to disagree with. In The Garden of Love I believe Blake tries to convey that as a child grows up things change. He seems to think that these changes are bad, for example the chapel replaced his childhood green where he had played and instead of flowers on the green, tombstones in a graveyard. I think he is saying that childhood was a happier, carefree time and as adulthood abruptly arises, you lose the innocence of your childhood. In William Blake?s case, things become darker. He seems to disagree with this. Also he puts across the feeling of being...

Williams' use of violence

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...A Streetcar Named Desire : How does violence progress throughout the play and change the course of action? In what ways did Williams? use of violence contribute to the controversy of the play? Williams? work is often considered as ?one of the most savage indictments of culture in our time?(i) and A Streetcar Named Desire is no exception. The play challenged the taboo issues of violence, homosexuality and promiscuity whilst the 1951 film adaptation caused great controversy despite censorship carried out by the Motion Picture Association of America and the Catholic Legion of Decency. Since it is Stanley?s rape of Blanche that leads to her inevitable demise, it is important to consider the significance that Williams? use of violence bears to the play as a whole. This central topic of violence is initially revealed to...
