...There is already an excellent review of this CD c/o Champ666 who alas seems to have departed Ciao. Still, I thought I'd add my own slant on this fine album that is either a work of genius or utter tosh and even now, I'm not entirely sure which although based on the amount of play it gets around here, I'm leaning on the former. William Shatner, yes, he of Star Trek, dodgy wigs and hammy acting has finally reached that age where he no longer takes himself quite so seriously and this album shows. An epic work that is quite unlike anything else you're ever likely to hear unless you have a stash of very strange beat-poet albums I've not seen before. Captains Glory - William Shatner

Advantages: Not that bad
Disadvantages: Not that good

...get the answers he is after but perhaps not the answers he wants. It all culminates on Spocks home world of Vulcan and what an ending it is. This is a standard Star Trek romp across the galaxy and has the usual twists and turns along the way. One or two surprises buy not that awe inspiring. It is easy on the mind and is written for the masses, i.e. to appeal to as many people as possible. And it's in that that there is something lost. Not as good as 'q continuum' or 'all good things' but it was ok. Recommended for the one read when you're bored. Written by William Shatner....

Inside Shatner

Advantages: Fun and honest book
Disadvantages: Would have liked to read more about family life

...made to make love to a blow up doll! The one downside to the book for me was the chapter where he talks about all the merchandise which Star Trek made and I did find this quite annoying but after a certain amount of pages I starting reading it with the humour it was meant to be written with and overcame the annoyance. There are several photos included in the book which show William through out his career and I find some of them very funny as he looks so young and different to how I know him. OVERALL I did thoroughly enjoy this book and I learnt so much about this man who I did honestly believe only stared in Star Trek and that is how he became famous. William has written the book with complete honesty and a great amount of humour which has made for a great and interesting read. I would recommend this book at all fans of Shatner...

William Shatner Presents.........

Advantages: New Enterprise, original cast.
Disadvantages: Script is awful, not enough budget.

...the third Indian Jones film instead... good call! Sybok is played by actor Laurence Luckinbilll, who has the task of attempting to convince Kirk that the Enterprise is the right craft to complete his premonition that he has received from God. Luckinbilll has the charisma to fill the screen with his personality, but you cannot help thinking that the character was a last minute thought as the God storyline is a pretty lame thing to fall back on. In fact it is only Dr McCoy that seems to get the lighter ride, with Kirk being beaten up and forced to relinquish Command, Spock having family issues and the rest of the cast being locked out for what seems like the remainder of the film, it is clear that the film has indeed to go to the final frontier. In Search of William Shatner's Dog

Advantages: Some excellent music expertly put together and produced.
Disadvantages: Some tracks are over-long and don't come off quite as crisply as they should.

...with a great degree of excellence and from here on in never does the album show any signs of weakness. The track 'Dead' is particularly impressive on this release and is perhaps my favourite of all those that are here. There is a great strength to the track and all elements of the music come together perfectly. It is music such as this that is superbly soothing to listen to, a perfect anthem for a long journey on the road. 'William Shatner's Dog' ends the album satisfyingly, sadly however it was not the Captain Kirk worshipping music I had been hoping for. In truth the title has little reference to the track whatsoever and does in fact seem to be somewhat chosen at random. Nonetheless, this is an excellent way in which for Stephen Fretwell to end the album and is in fact an extremely effective way of doing so. My only complaint with ending...

...In 1990 William Shatner was between jobs and looking at what to do next in his career so he wrote a book. Its highly contested exactly how much of that book he actually wrote and how much was written or helped along by Ron Goulart who is claimed did most if not all of the donkey work for the entire series of books as it is very similar to the plot of a book that Goulart wrote called Brainz Inc in 1985. In the acknowledgments page Shatner does thank Goulart stating "He did an enormous amount of work" so make of that what you will, regardless of who wrote it the book is a darn good read. Strangeness Lurks in The Easy Listening Section

...William Shatner is a musical genius and if you disagree with me then you know nothing about music or you may know more about music than I do???. I have a desire to collect bizarre music if there is a album released by Albanian Squirrels playing sitars then I?d have to buy it, or Russian Tree Frogs doing Elton John Covers I?d buy that in fact it is the only time I?d buy anything with Elton Johns name on it. HALLOWEEN: The curse of William Shatner!!!

Advantages: An absolute classic of the horror genre!!!
Disadvantages: John Carpenter just makes crap films these days!!!

Now Myers mask in the Halloween series is a pretty screwed up white, emotionless mask with a shock of brown hair which to be honest IS pretty bloody scary... BUT... Did you know that the mask that Myers wore in Halloween was actually a William Shatner 'Captain Kirk' mask which was bought by the production crew for the incredible cost of $1.98 as they didn't have the money to design and make a mask? They trimmed away Captain James Tiberius Kirk's side-burns and spray painted the mask white... Think about that the next time you watch Halloween... It may just change your perception of Michael Myers.
