Affectionately made Standards Record

Advantages: Willie's interpretations, subtle musicianship, great songs
Disadvantages: No Willie Nelson compositions

...Willie Nelson is a versatile performer. He was famous for being at the forefront of the country outlaw movement in the 70's. Released at the end of the 70's while the movement was at it's height, Nelson went against the grain with this risky offering of standards. This could have gone dreadfully for Willie but in fact what he achieved was one of his most successful and popular releases. The album is finely produced by Booker T. Jones of Booker T and the MGs. It's simply and beautifully done allowing Willie to take these songs and make them his own. It doesn't really fall into any category, as it's not really country, nor folk, nor Jazz, nor easy listening. Please excuse me for sounding utterly pretentious which I am about to do... It's Willie Nelson. The song selection is great with fantastic readings of 'Georgia on My Mind...

Review of Stardust - Willie Nelson

NELSON' S BAR - AND NELSON WOULD BE PROUD OF IT!

Advantages: Nice home-made food; pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages: The chips come ready salted

...Nelson's Bar is situated within The Grosvenor Arms Pulford Hotel, a beautiful sandstone manor house set back from the main Wrexham Road in Pulford, Chester. Not to be confused with Ciro's Brasserie, the alternative eatery within the hotel and which, as can be seen from one of my previous reviews, I would not personally recommend, Nelson's Bar is a very relaxed, informal restaurant which serves a wide variety of lovely food, and at the same time, is not overly expensive. My last visit to Nelson's Bar was just a couple of months ago when we were invited out for lunch to celebrate my auntie's birthday. We are a fairly informal, laid back lot and for this kind of get together, we always look out for a restaurant with good food and a nice atmosphere, yet one where we can chill out without having to worry whether my four year old is going...

Night Fall by Nelson Demille

Advantages: John Corey is a wryly amusing character with plenty of clever lines. The theory surrounding a real-life event raises some fascinating questions.
Disadvantages: The ending was a major disappointment to me.

Don't be fooled by the title!

Disadvantages: It's very very poor

..., but any blues fan will know what I mean. This just sounds cold, calculated, unfeeling. It's boring to the 'n'th degree. I love Willie Nelson's voice. I'm not a typical country fan , but when someone has as unique a vocal as say Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, or Johnny Cash then I'll always give them a listen... till now. What's worse is the track listing on the album is a full of absolute gems from years gone by - including such staples as Georgia On My Mind, Stardust, Caldonia, Basin Street Blues. Each of these, and the rest of the songs on the album, should sound amazing if these guys were both on top form, but the versions are highly recommended as a cure for insomnia, they're just lacking that 'oomph' to get them out of first gear. Overall, possibly the most disappointing album I've ever bought. Sadly I can't give it a zero...

...The Lord Nelson that i sometimes go to is in Urmston, Manchester. It is a lovely place and has a wonderful atmosphere. It is a Joseph Holts pub, and for those who have never had the chance to drink in a Joseph Holts pub, let me explain. Joseph Holts is the best pint of bitter i have ever had, and ive drunk a few. Quite personally i think that the lager is awful, but then again i dont drink much larger, im bitter and ale man myself. Joseph Holts is its own brewery so in the pumps is its own beer. This is probably why it is so cheap. I cant write enough how good the bitter is. At first i was a bit reluctant to try the bitter as i didnt like the lager (i drank lager first). Once tasted ive never gone back. Enough on the brewery and back onto the pub... The pub inside is a traditional looking pub, with a huge carpeted lounge area...

Lidl's Lord Nelson Earl Grey teabags 25

Advantages: As good as Twinings etc
Disadvantages: None

...Lidl's Lord Nelson Earl Grey is an excellent version of tea. It is cheaply priced at 59p and each tea bag is individually wrapped in a sachet, like in the restaurants in the Mediterranean. A string is attached for convenience. A smooth taste, definately on par with Twinings Earl Grey as I drink both brands. The only snag is Twinings is about £2 for 50 bags. Lord Nelson boxes have 25 bags in them, so you are paying approximately 2p/bag. Twinings work out at approx 4p/bag. I personally like Twinings but when you can get the same thing for half the price, my choice is made. Don't believe rumour that Lidl's products is similar to other supermarket's "value" and "brands", it is definately not! I actually quite fancy one now!...
