Windows 98

Advantages: Easy to use and good interface
Disadvantages: Slow, Unreliable and high disk usage

...Windows 98 is a good product, but I do not consider it to be great. First some of the good points, the product is very easy to use and installing games/software has been improved a lot (since the days of DOS games). Also adding hardware is a lot simpler than it used to be. The Interface is very good and easy to use. Now some of the bad points, windows 98 is a very slow operating system, my pc now takes ages to boot up, it is not very reliable (crashes are quite frequent), masses of disk space is used for tons of files that I am sure I don't need. This is a good product with no real competition at the moment (I await the Linux developments with Anticipation)....

Windows 98 Stupid Edition

Advantages: Um.....Compaitibility
Disadvantages: Most of it

...Windows ME may be out and most people will get this rather 98 SE, but I still have 98 SE and I need a place to moan about it, there are just too many faults. Windows 98 was the successor to Windows 95. It didn't change much, just a few new bits here and there, the usual claims of better performance and stability and new versions of programs. It was so crap that Microsoft had to release Windows 98 Second Edition, which fixed all of the bugs and security issues of the first release. That's a great start surely, but wait - it doesn't end there! To fix a few more problems a fresh install of Windows 98SE requires a trip over to Windows Update to download yet more 'Critical Updates', the likes of which left unchecked may let people gain control of your PC over the internet. Nice to know your PC's safe then!! But then on the other hand...

Windows 98 - The Power Zapper

Advantages: Good for home use; Widely supported
Disadvantages: Not for the power user; Very power and memory intensive

...As do most people, I run Windows 98 on my PC. It's a powerful computer, Pentium2 450MHz, 128Mb RAM, so you would think that everything would run smoothly and quickly. Wrong! Infact, Windows 98 seems to plod along at what can only be described as a walking pace whenever you really start to use the system to any real extent. I'm a Computer Science student at Swansea Uni., and as part of my course we do a lot of programming, and a lot of graphics work. This seems to really kill the OS. Windows 98

Advantages: Easy to use interface

...This operating system, to say the least is very unreliable and poor. There is nearly always a constant problem with it, and it does not take much for it to crash at the slightest thing. Really, there was not a great deal of difference between this and windows 95. If i had win 95, I would NOT recommend this as a very worthwhile purchase. However if you have a decent computer with win 3.1 then this may be a worthwhile buy. The best thing to do is look for alternatives to this operating system....

Windows 7 - The Best OS Yet!

Advantages: Great new toolbar, excellent personalisation, overall brilliant design
Disadvantages: Really similar to Vista.

.... Remember the wide variety of themes in 98? Well, some of them have made their way onto Windows 7. I am told some computers came with themes in both XP and Vista but of the 4 PCs I've had on both platforms, none have had themes. My favourite theme is the United Kingdom one. It has an assortment of UK landmarks for the desktop image which rotate every 30 minutes so the desktop doesn't really get boring (unless, like me, you spend every spare moment in front of a computer screen). One thing I dislike about Windows 7 is that it is basically just the same as Vista. Apart from a few name changes and completely new layout, there aren't many differences. If you have got Vista, it's a bit of a waste of money upgrading when you've already got all the features. You'll notice this is only a small paragraph as I can find little else to fault Windows 7 on...

Windows 7 - a great operating system.

Advantages: looks great, easy to use, nice new taskbar, high compatibility
Disadvantages: cost is still high

...I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. I had not minded Windows Vista as much as other people; my computer has a 2.13GHz dual core processor and 4GB of RAM. Windows 7 doesn't actually seem to be any faster, but it has some better features and is overall easier to use. It took about 2 hours to upgrade, which isn't bad but it's not amazingly fast. It runs all of my programs that ran under Vista no problem, and some of my hardware is actually now supported that wasn't supported in Vista. I haven't found anything that doesn't work after upgrading. I still recommend that you run the "Windows 7 upgrade advisor" first just to make sure. The new taskbar looks a bit different, but don't be worried, you'll get used to it, and once you do you'll find out that it's a big improvement. Programs no longer have text, just...
