Reviews of windows 98
98 - Outdated
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 SE Complete package by
ollienewth
Advantages: Not many!
Disadvantages: Not many programs run on it anymore, Old design...
...Years and years have past since the launch of Windows 98. At the time is was great; it was fast, 'good looks', easy to use, but time has changed since then, with the launch of Windows 2000 (ME) and, now, Windows XP.
Prehaps the only reason you may choose to put Windows 98 onto your computer nowadays is either if you want a computer to run fast, or you can't be bothered to go out and buy a copy of XP for around £80.
As I have just mentioned, 98 does run faster than XP, and you can't upgrade a computer with 98 on if it is too old, as Windows XP would take too long to load. Windows XP has many new features compared to 98, such as a completely new look, different files can run on it, and with SP2, it comes with a built in firewall, virus protection and automatic updates.
I strongly advise against buying a copy of Windows 98; if you want...

Not for Gamers, Must for Networks
Review of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Complete package by
KingWaz
Advantages: Improved Networking, Improved Reliability
Disadvantages: Poor Gaming
...Windows 2000 is Microsofts follow up to Windows NT 4. It takes all of the functionality of Windows NT and adds to it some functionality of Windows 9x to create an interesting combination of the networking capabilities of NT and the individual user capabilities of Windows 98.
I myself upgraded to Windows 2000 from Windows 98. I did this as Windows 98 was running very un-reliably and I installed Windows 2000 in the hope that it would solve the problems I was having with Windows 98. I was not dissapointed on that front. In terms of reliability Windows 2000 certainly tops Windows 98.
As Windows 2000 is based on NT technology (as it claims on the loading screen), it makes a great operating system for all types of networking (peer-peer, client-server).
However, despite its claims it is not a gamers OS. Thankfully, it is easy to install Win...

Stick with it !!!
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
Lynx101
Advantages: Performance
Disadvantages: Bugs
...I been using Windows 98 from pretty much the day it was released in the uk. After a few bug problems it is pretty much in a class of its own. I have tried out Windows 2000 recently after being invited to Microsoft at Reading for a special preview. Of course, some parts of Windows 2000 are great but its not really any different to Windows 98. At least with Windows 98 you knwo where you stand. Lets face it allot of software companies have to ompletlely change their way of coding to make it work. I think Windows 2000 will not be popular until, as we know what happened to Windows 98 witht he bugs and all that, it has been around for quite a period of time. I would not rush out and get it yet !!...

Best of a bad bunch
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
markos3
Advantages: Better than 95
Disadvantages: Crashes too much
...I have been using Windows 98 since it was launched, since then I have upgraded with service pack 1.
Compared to Windows 95, it is slightly more stable and seems a bit faster. It is a friendly operating system to use and the multimedia features are well implemented.
It is still not the most stable of operating systems. I use NT at work which crashes far less than Windows 98. NT is not a home operating system however so if you are looking to use an operating system for games and multimedia then the best choice is Windows 98.
Until something better comes along that is....

Windows 2000 Beta
Review of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Media by
gametester1985
Advantages: there gives it a lot there
Disadvantages: also gives it a great deal
...Windows 2000 is a compound from Windows 98 and Windows NT. The surface and divide the user managers became undertaken from 98 and the more stable heart comes from NETWORK TERMINAL. What is actual new in the case of Windows 2000? Hardware is mostly arranged without new start and it is now also that so-called Hot- have Plugin, the mean one can devices at serial and parallel ones as well as the USB and the Firewall external into current company connection connecting, that may be recognized arranged then automatic.
Active has desktop too in Windows 2000. What a very good renewal is, the recoveries consoles, with her, one can cancel attitudes and it returns the system into a stable original state in the case of problems.
Very gadget who thinks Windows in 2000 is rapid as 98 that is mistaken, the Windows 2000-11-28 is not more rapid than 98...

Windows 98 is it Great
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
JPARRY
Advantages: Slighty more stable than '95
Disadvantages: Not much improvement
...After using Windows ’95 for over 3 years, I decided to upgrade to Windows ’98 and the release of Windows ’98 SE proved as good a time as any. So what is the difference many of you may ask. Well to those users who have the latest version of Windows ’95 with Internet Explorer 4.0 update on their machine, very little. Even for those users who have Windows ’95 without the upgrade, there is still very little difference and no need to purchase the newer version of Windows unless of course you want to keep up-to-date with the latest in Windows OS series. Even then we have Windows ME so there is no need to go for Windows ’98.
Of course with each version of Windows there is new features, with Windows ’95 it was the big leap in Windows OS history, a new environment for the users, what has Windows...

Windows or Windoze
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
SmurfTheWeb
Advantages: Widely available. Easy to use.
Disadvantages: Bugs, glitches and crashes.
...Windows 98
Windows 98 is the standard Operating System (OS) for most people nowadays. Almost everyone has used Windows 98 at some stage, and practically every pc is shipped with it pre-installed.
Windows 98 is a relativly stable OS for the average user. It requires a minimum of at least a P3 500, with 64mb ram and 1Gb hard disk, making it open to the majority of PC users. However, running high spec games and applications (such as Half Life or 3D Studio Max for example) can cause the pc to 'hang' or crash, which can become tiresome to the more advanced user.
Windows 98 comes with many new features over the previous version of Windows. It features more integration with the internet - changling seamlessly from explorer to the internet, and the quick launch bar is a marvel for loading games or programs easily and quickly. It comes...

Isn't it Windows 95 re-vamped?
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
KingWaz
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Windows 95 was the operating system of the 90's. It was fast, it supported a whole new range of programs (32-bit support) and it had a brand new shell which was extremely easy to use.
But most importantly it sold well. Brilliantly infact, almost every workstation in the world had it. Microsoft have attempted to re-live this glory in Windows 98.
So lets take a look at what is new in Windows 98. A few new meaningless applications, 100's of more system files that make it load and run a lot slower and make it more un-reliable. An improved setup screen (wupidoo). That's it! Oops sorry I missed out the one thing that is worthwhile in Win 98, FAT32.
FAT32 is an improvement on the FAT16 filing system, however, it is not worth paying £80 for.
What about Windows 98 Version 2?? What the heck was that? Windows 98 with IE5 on! Why pay £40...

Beats Windows 95
Review of Microsoft Windows 98 - complete package by
WAD1-2-3
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...I was using my friends computer which had Windows 95 which made me realise just how good and fast Windows 98 is in comparison with Windows 95.
I definitely think that Microsoft are the bench mark in computer software. Windows 98 is evident of that.
You can get Windows 98 for £75 or if you buy a new computer you can have it already installed. The good thing is that if you have a new printer, mouse etc. Instead of having to use extra discs to install them you can simple ‘Add’ new software.
Generally with Windows 98 there is much more colour and animations like Desktop themes and you are given much more control the ‘Settings’ include everything you would want.
You get all the accessories that came with Windows 95 like Notepad, calculator, the four basic games that were on Win95 they are on here. The Media...

So many improvements since 98
Review of Microsoft Windows NT Workstation ( v. 4.0 ) - complete package by
richardjmeek
Advantages: Reliable, secure
Disadvantages: Cannot run older games
...Windows Nt workstation is such an improvement over windows 98. It is much more secure and stable then windows 98. Nt runs older dos programs in their own seperate memory space so if the ctrash they do not interfere with any other application running on the PC. Windows NT can run games but generally only games that were built after 1995. Windows Nt requires a moinimum hardware requirement of 16 MB RAM , 200 Mb Hard Drive and Pentium 100Mhz processor. Each individual has their own logon Id so preferences are saved for each individual user things such as backgrounds screen savers, favourites on the internet ect. Windows NTs main feature is that it doesnt eat hard disk space like windows 98 it can uninstall files as well as install then a problem i had with windows 98....
