Windows Media Center 2005 - My HTPC

Advantages: User Friendly, Easy to Use, Value for Money, Comprehensive Operating System.
Disadvantages: Poor Documentation, Titanic Struggle Installing Operating System

...like Microsoft have taken a few que's from Apple and have added slightly more functionality to make this a comprehensive media hub that can be linked to other computers in your home. There's a lot to explore and many settings are attainable but only you will find out what is best for you. This could be the ideal solution if you are looking to tidy up your front room so that you can truly entertain and eduacate yourself/family. I have no hesitations in recommending Media Center 2005, especially as you'll have to wait until at least 2007 before the next incarnation of Windows is likely to emerge. You have the option of using the XP Professional interface or the more pleasent Media Center one. Don't forget to purchase your Media Center 2005 remote and invest in a decent wireless keyboard and mouse. One thing I did forget to mention...

If you have the Media Centre Edition on your PC but it didn't come with this remote control, don't despair; you can purchase the remote and the receiver separately and install it. Who Is This For? ############## This is for users of Windows Media Centre Edition computers. It will allow you to work mouse free from 20 feet away. You can control your PC via the menu system and also pause, play, and even record TV onto your hard drive with this (you have to have a TV tuner installed for these features). You can manage your music, shuffle through tracks, play, pause and even record from radio channels. It's like your digital hub. That's what I really enjoy about it. ...I built my own Windows Media Centre PC, so naturally I wanted Microsoft's own remote to go with it. When you first open the box the remote comes in, you get the feeling that someting is missing, all you get is:- 1. The Remote itself. 2. The USB reciever. 3. 2x AA Batteries. 4. A leaflet about warranty. So thats it, no software CD and no instructions. Luckly installation is a breeze, simply put the batteries into the remote, then plug the USB reciever into a spare USB socket on your Windows Media Centre PC. Thats it, Windows just reconizies it and away you go. A simple press of the large green media centre button in the middle of the remote and media centre launches straight away. From there on its just like using any other modern DVD or TV remote, 4 large buttons, up, down, left & right control the on-screen menu...
