...I have just run a Ciao search and cannot believe that this is the very first review of Windsor Castle to appear on Ciao! I can only hope in that case, that the following review will be of some use to the potential visitor. Regrettably the title of this review does rather let the cat out of the bag, for that my profuse apologies, but as is often the case on some of the more controversial reviews I did think long and hard about the title - resulting in the one you see above. If this review is seen as treasonous, may I just hope that access is not denied to the internet whilst serving at Her Majesty's pleasure. If treason is still a hanging offence then I bequeath my worldly goods to??.. OK, here comes the review as planned before discovery of its "first of" nature: Three weeks later (after our visit!) and with my credit card bill...

Windsor Inn- Windsor Out

Advantages: Good location, triple room available, price
Disadvantages: Lots of stairs, NO HOT WATER, Not very clean

...~~The Windsor Inn~~ ~~Booking~~ A girls holiday was in order and Cork seemed like the perfect location as it was slightly cheaper than Dublin but there was still lots to do. After trailing through many search websites we finally came across The Windsor Inn hotel. So this is where our problems began. We booked the hotel through booking.com and got to the end of the whole confirmation part and paid when a pop-up came along saying the room we'd paid for was not available. I tried contacting booking.com who confirmed that no payment had been made, I even phoned my credit card company to make sure. So an hour later we'd booked another hotel and I went to my emails and low and behold I found that I had confirmation of the Windsor Inn saying that we did have the room. Royal Windsor - not just a Castle

Advantages: Beautiful architecture, on the Thames, plenty of B&Bs
Disadvantages: Pricy, can get busy esp weekends

...My first impression of Windsor as the train pulled into Windsor and Eton Riverside station was "Whoa, castle!" The castle sits on a hill overlooking the town of Windsor, and as it is the largest inhabited castle in the world, it is seriously impressive. The town isn't just about the castle (although I do highly recommend a visit), or its other major attraction, Legoland. The area around the castle itself is quite geared for tourists – Thames St and High St are dotted with a mix of souvenir shops and fast food outlets – but once you get away from these touristy areas there are a wealth of other things that make Windsor a great place to visit. A Castle Fit For A King And Queen

Cost: Cons: Well lets be honest its not cheap: 1 Day Adult Ticket (16-59 yrs) £33.30 1 Day Child Ticket (3-15 yrs) £25.20 1 Day Senior Ticket (60+ yrs) £25.20 So for a typical family of 4 its over £100. Pros: The upside is that they must know its expensive because you can find find reductions in the ticket price all over the place. we go ours from a box of Walkers Crisps. ...Carrickfergus Castle I grew up in the shadows of this impressive monument and it amazes me that it is not more widely known outside of the UK. The castle is the best preserved monument in the whole of Ireland and is stunning to look at from all angles. Location The castle is located in the town of Carrickfergus which is situated on the shores of Belfast Lough about 10 miles from Belfast. The castle can easily be reached from Belfast by car (pretty much a straight road), regular buses and trains. The castle is open all year round. Off season it is open 10-4 Monday to Sat and 2 - 4 on a Sunday and during the summer or peak months the opening hours are extended until 6pm daily. Who's castle?

Advantages: Funny and entertaining
Disadvantages: They never win which is very frustrating

...Takeshi's castle is a Japanese game show which is very similar to Total Wipeout although it's very dated. The show starts out with 100 contestants who battle it out by running assault courses and participating in different challenges before faces the final challenge and being in with a chance of winning one million yen. The show is ridiculously hard and it does make the watcher wonder if they don't actually have the prize funds at the end. My favourite challenge throughout the show is where the contestant has to run through doors but some of the doors are glued shut so if they choose the wrong one then they end up crashing into it. Craig Charles narrates the UK version of the show and I have to say that he is very funny with some of the things he comes out with. ...Warwick Castle was on my list of touristy things to do when I stayed overnight in a hotel in Stratford this year. Located in Warwick, the castle is probably Warwickshire's biggest, most popular, and most expensive, attraction. At around £20 per adult ticket it's not cheap, but as a one-off visit it's definitely somewhere noteworthy to say you've been and depending on the weather the day you go, could prove to be a day-long visit. There are several ways and places to pay for your ticket, though buying in advance online if possible is probably the cheapest method unless you have an alternative discount voucher.
