Wine never tasted so good!

Advantages: A delightfully moorish sweet that doesn't hurt your teeth
Disadvantages: they make you fat if you eat too many!

...I consider myself a bit of a sweet expert. Or should that be addict? Maybe the two are the same thing but one thing is for sure - when I open a packet of wine gums they'll be lucky to last until the next day. Wine Gums have been around since I was a kid, and so I imagine most people have at least seen them if not tasted them. As far as I can tell they haven't changed the way they make them either, they still taste as good as they always have. Well done Maynards. But the real question I guess is "why are they called Wine Gums?". Well that's easy - if they were called Polos or Fruit Gums you'd get confused and buy the wrong thing! Joking aside, Wine Gums don't taste of wine - they are fruit flavoured jelly sweets. And what delicious sweets they are! They have their own unique 'yummyness' that no other gum sweet I've tasted has...

Review of Maynards Wine Gums

Where's The Wine?

Advantages: Quite Tasty
Disadvantages: Covered In Sugar

...of a rush, but this is quickly followed by the fruity taste which lingers in your mouth long after the sweet has gone. I prefer to chew my Pastilles but I must warn you they do tend to stick to your teeth a little so if you have sensitive teeth you might prefer to suck them. They are however definitely less chewy than a Wine Gum and tend to dissolve more easily in your mouth. The Wine Pastilles come in five different colours and flavours which usually alternate within the pack. These are as below: Yellow - These are Lemon flavoured and have a nice sweet citrus flavour but they are not particularly lemony. Green - These are Lime flavoured and have a sweet sharp taste. Orange - These are Orange flavoured and have a Strong taste of very sweet oranges. These were my favourite ones from the packet. Black ~ These are Blackcurrant...

Fine Virgin Wines

Advantages: Great value boutique wines
Disadvantages: The on-line wine auctions are addictive!

...I have been buying from Virgin Wines for about three years and I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value for money of their wines. They have got a very good range of wines from all around the world, which vary in price from as little as £4 right up to £85 for a bottle of Dom Perignon 2000. I belong to their Wine Bank, which is effectively a loyalty programme. You pay £20 each month into the Wine Bank and every three months Virgin Wines will add another £20 in interest, so when you come to buy your wine you effectively get 25% off. You can pay more into your Wine Bank if you want to and you will be rewarded with a reciprocal amount of interest (i.e. £30 a month would attract £30 interest and so on). Because most of the wines they stock are generally small production 'boutique' wines, you cannot buy them anywhere...

A Taste of Great Recipe Books

Advantages: Cheap, good service, great variety of recipe books
Disadvantages: None if you like recipe books

...addition to any outstanding balance on the account you have. How can you contact the club? The best way for me is via internet. They have set an excellent site, very friendly for the user. If you wish to contact them through email, they promise that they will try to reply within one working day. Alternatively you can call the club directly on 0870 165 0253. Other features of the club The magazine they send every month is very informative and tempting you to buy them all. Really good presentation. They also send you a list of all the best sellers of the market in cheaper prices but I am not buying from them as I can find them cheaper on Amazon. The Taste club has teamed up with Video Direct to offer members access to every Video and DVD on UK release and there is no postage and packing to pay. It?s not as cheap as the CD...

Scrumptious Lamb In Red Wine from Morrisons

Advantages: Extremely tasty, lean & tender lamb, lovely sauce
Disadvantages: High in fat

...process, there was a lovely, almost sweet smell of lamb roasting and the wine aroma permeated the air quite strongly. I hoped that the finished article would taste as delicious as it smelled. On removing from the oven, I decided against carving slices from the shank as it would have been too cumbersome being as I was only feeding myself, so I placed the whole thing on my plate then surrounded it with the potatoes and green vegetables. There appeared to be quite a lot of meat on the bone, and I noticed that it hadn?t shrunk at all during the cooking time. The sauce was a pale red colour (a bit like rosé wine), and the smell of rosemary was not overly strong, but definitely there. One thing I wasn?t too keen on was that the sauce was extremely thin ? almost watery ? and I felt that for appearance?s sake, a little thickening with some...

Gather around I am making Wine, 30 bottles in 3 weeks

Advantages: quick easy no problems and tastes great
Disadvantages: if you dont know home made wine, you could make the mistake of thinking it is weakish, but wait

...the specific gravity. This is done by putting some wine in the tube and reading 1000 or below on the hydrometer. Day 16 if the reading is 1000 or below - below being a dryer wine you do some more packet emptying into the wine. This is to make the wine stop fermenting. Day 17 you shake the container morning and night. This removes carbon dioxide Day 18 you do as for day 17 and then leave it undisturbed. Day 19 this is when it becomes interesting as you taste it and syphon it off the sedement into another container leaving the sediment behind. You also add the last bag which is the clearing one although I think you will find that it is already nice and clear. Day 21 taste the wine again. Like it? then bottle it. It is now ready to drink and to say to everyone come and have a sip of my homemade wine. Dont be surprised if someone...

Mulled Wine tea - Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea

Advantages: Refreshing
Disadvantages: Not like tea, not like mulled wine

...suspiciously like dyed sugar. Annoyingly, even though I've only had this tub for a month, all the granules have solidified into a big lump, which I now have to hack bits off. They have a new branding on the tub, with attractive giant snowflakes on a red background. I'm not quite sure what that's trying to conjure up, but it made me feel cold just looking at it. According to the tub, the tea is "wonderfully warming", which seems somewhat at odds with the snowflakes, but I never did understand marketing anyway. Now, back to that name. "Instant tea drink". Doesn't exactly sound inspiring, does it? Sounds a bit fake? That's pretty much what I thought too. And trying it didn't change my opinion. I can't even taste the tea in it. And it doesn't taste of mulled wine either - it just tastes sweet and has a sweet smell to it. It isn't unpleasant, it just...

A Delightful Tale of Wine and Hashish

Advantages: A telling recollection of encounters with narcotics and alcohol
Disadvantages: short

...1921, Baudelaire attended the Ecole de Droit, studying Law, where he developed a fondness for wine and hashish, the stimulants so intriguingly analysed in his masterpiece, On Wine and Hashish. Dying at the age of 46 having contracted syphilis, Baudelaire?s work remains bright and inspiring to this very day. It would be hard to compare modern writers to this genius as that flair and passion for writing appears to have ebbed somewhat in recent years. Baudelaire?s On Wine and Hashish is an eloquent reminder of Parisian indulgence and romanticism: the very language used in this book helps recreate the very scenes and experiences Baudelaire encountered in his short but productive life. The following are a couple of sentences that caught my attention: ?It is impossible to say what kind of sounds emerged from the drunken violin; Bacchus in...

Review of On Wine And Hashish - Charles Baudelaire

One of the greatest wine experiences

Advantages: Beautiful setting, great wines and great fun for the family
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...: Spiers wines have been recognised worldwide as being consistently of the highest quality. Wine tastings are conducted in English, Afrikaans and German. There area number of wine tasting options available, which are geared to educate people about the ins and outs of wine. The average prices range from R10 to R30 (£0.90 to £2.70) per tasting. The wine tasting centre is open from 10am to 4.30pm and they offer a great delivery service for both local an international visitors. With wines ranging from Pinotage to the Chenin Blanc, their wines are top class and suitable for an occasion. Dining: With 4 eating establishments, as well as a Deli serving the needs of the picnickers, the culinary services available are more than adequate to meet the needs of all but the most extreme of gourmands. Figaros: Is small by some restaurant standards...
