Fine Wine and some beer
Advantages: Reasonable prices and a good range of products
Disadvantages: Its a chain
...We have a couple of Victoria Wine shops in Newcastle, and I think they are reasonably good. At Christmas they had an offer of Lanson Black Label Champagne buy two get one free that worked out at under £15 a bottle. Their price for a single bottle was £21.99 whicj about two pounds dearer than Tescos and much dearer that Mr Aktar next to Chichester Metro Sounth Shields who used to sell it for £14.99 a bottle, but I no longer live there.
They have a wide range of wines, but you usually benefit from the offers they have one. One recent one was a hungarian wine called "The Unpronounceable Grape" , a dry white wine at £3.49 a bottle or £6 for two. It's excellent and stands well with the more expensive wines, such as Koonunga Hill or Lindemanns.
Their beers selection is limited , but the currently do Murphy's at 8 cans for a fiver that...

Interesting Home Brewing beer and wine resource
Advantages: Regularly updated, pictures, detailed reports, intersting mini-projects
Disadvantages: Kit brewing only currently
...Bell's Beer Home Brew Blog (at http://bellsbeer.wordpress.com ) is a really interesting and useful resource for the amateur home brewer.
There are extremely regular posts (several times a week) which means there is always something knew to read when you decide to take a look. The RSS feed is brilliant for being able to keep up to date.
There a a large number of photos included with the posts, which is both athetically pleasing, and useful. The posts are also very detailed, explaining exactly what was done. In addition to just reports on Bell's beer and wine, he also undertakes numerous interesting experiments and mini-projects, such as how to attach and remove bottle labels, and the conversion of a cupboard under the stairs into a brewery. This are pleasant asides from just brewing reports. While the blogs writer is a relative...

Tiger Beer
Advantages: A tasty drop of lager
Disadvantages: None, specifically, that I can pick out
...Every curry house sells it, and the argument goes which 'curry beer' is better; Cobra, Kingfisher or Tiger... well this review will describe the pros of Tiger beer in all it's glory.
Born in Asia in 1932 and brewed and bottled by Hainan Asia Pacific Brewery Co., with some of the finest quality hops and malted barley and no artificial additives, Tiger beer has spread over the world to become one of the world's favourite, and most successful beers across the land.
The malt barley hails from Europe and Australia, and the hops are specially produced in Germany. The yeast is also specially produced in Holland specifically for Tiger.
The beer is brewed solely in the Far East and goes through rigorous quality control checks, supposedly 50 more than most other beers, to help ensure the beer has the brand's unique taste, just how...

The KINGfisher of Beers
Advantages: Good value on special deals
Disadvantages: Not so great if you have to pay premium prices
...Have you heard the one about how copper wire was invented by two Scotsmen fighting over a penny? You haven't? Well I haven't got time to tell you it just now, but it's a blatant misrepresentation of the Scottish psyche.
I was discussing this slur on our national character with a friend recently when I happened upon 4-pack (330ml) of KINGFISHER beer for the knock-down price of £1.99.
I grabbed those suckers quicker than a Jock slipping out the fire exit when it's his round at the bar, and toddled off home by myself (so I didn't have to share them).
But enough of that, what about the beer?
KINGFISHER is India's leading brand of premium lager with a share approaching 25% of the total beer market, it's the top-selling Indian lager in the UK and Europe, and it's also available in 50 other countries...

Ahm nae crabbit with Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer*
Advantages: nice taste, refreshinmg
Disadvantages: not widely available
...I'm an old fashioned girl at heart and love the old fashioned drinks such as saspherlila, Dandelion and Burdock and cloudy lemonade. Most of all like the Famous Five I love ginger beer. I love strong flavours and there is nothing better on a hot day than the fiery hit of a decent ginger beer. To awaken and tantalise my taste buds. I tend to drink Old Jamaicabut was very excited when I came across Crabbie's original alcoholic ginger beer next to the real ales and ciders in Waitrose recentl
Crabbie's are a Scottish company that are known for their green ginger wine but have now branched out intro grown up ginger beer that has enough alcohol in it at 4% to make Timmy and maybe aunt fanny a little tipsy. It is described on the bottle as being made from a unique recipe of fruit, spices and real ginger (thank god. I'm not sure what fake...

Where's The Wine?
Advantages: Quite Tasty
Disadvantages: Covered In Sugar
...I got home a couple of nights ago, turned on my PC and settled down to eat a packet (or at least part of a packet) of Fruit Pastilles only to discover in horror, that in my hurry to pick up the local newspaper and something to chew on, on the way home from work, I'd made a bit of a boob and must have picked up a packet of Wine Pastilles in error.
The look on my face must have been comical, my other half said I looked like a little spoilt child with my bottom lip stuck out, and eyes bulging like they were about to burst.
I must admit I hadn't actually had Wine Pastilles before so after the initial disappointment had worn off I decided to give them a try.
The Background
Wine Pastilles were originally made by a company called Maynard's who are the same people that make the Fruit Pastilles and Wine Gums. Maynard have been making...

Fine Virgin Wines
Advantages: Great value boutique wines
Disadvantages: The on-line wine auctions are addictive!
...I have been buying from Virgin Wines for about three years and I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value for money of their wines. They have got a very good range of wines from all around the world, which vary in price from as little as £4 right up to £85 for a bottle of Dom Perignon 2000.
I belong to their Wine Bank, which is effectively a loyalty programme. You pay £20 each month into the Wine Bank and every three months Virgin Wines will add another £20 in interest, so when you come to buy your wine you effectively get 25% off. You can pay more into your Wine Bank if you want to and you will be rewarded with a reciprocal amount of interest (i.e. £30 a month would attract £30 interest and so on). Because most of the wines they stock are generally small production 'boutique' wines, you cannot buy them anywhere...

Banana? Tick! Beer? Tick! Bread?...um
Advantages: Yummy, beer, yum, banana...ooo 1 of your 5 a day!
Disadvantages: um, fattening
...Introduction:
In my quest for interesting beers from the supermarket, I stumble across this one. It caught my eye as I need a nosh on a nana now and then. As a typical beer or ale, I wasn't really keen (by that I mean, I usually drink stouts or porters), but realizing that it contained banana, my interest was well and truly pricked. Yes, it actually contains banana and oddly, banana flavouring...weird huh? So in my trolley it went, and on a night in, I plucked it out and took a sup.
Following my last 'beer' review as a guideline, I've reviewed the Banana Beerness in the same format...
Smell:
The smell is mild and not really banana-esque in aroma at all. However, it doesn't smell like regular beer or ale, but somehow more interesting and complex, the hoppiness certainly isn't as pronounced as a regular ale. The smell...

Tiger Beer
Advantages: Great Taste
Disadvantages: None
...Brewed in the tropical environment of the beautiful and warm far east; Tiger Beer is an extremely light tasting beer. This beer is smooth and will run down your throat nicely, complimanting any meal and hydrating on its own. Not only this but Tiger Beer is brewed to perfection with 250 quality control checks taking in place during its manufacture, 50 more than average beer comapnies. Even the glass of the bottle is specially made to protect the beer from harmful UV rays. Tiger Beer is also the winner of over 30 international gold medals and awards in Paris, Geneva, Rome, Lisbon and Madrid. I would highly recommend Tiger Beer to anyone, whether you are a fan of light or strong beers, there is no doubt that you will enjoy this....

The Best Beer in the World
Advantages: Long session beer, excellent taste
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Tiger beer is the true Asian beer. The Tiger demands respect in Asia and throughout the world.
Asia Pacific Breweries in Singapore, which is a joint venture between Frasers & Neave and Heineken NV, brew it (No wonder I like the taste). Tiger beer is the predominant brand of the company and was first brewed way back in 1932.
Tiger beer is immensely popular throughout Asia and especially South East Asia.
My first experience with Tiger Beer was surprisingly in Sierra Leone (West Africa). The reason why I ended up drinking Tiger beer there was because we had exported a 20ft. container load directly from Singapore to Sierra Leone of ABC Stout, which is also manufactured by Asia Pacific Breweries. In that container we had included 10 trays x 24 cans of Tiger Beer just for trial purposes.
So that was my first experience with Tiger...
