Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives
Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine

...INTRO The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with a second hand Belkin, which worked fine but unfortunately, a power cut killed the wireless on it. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. So i searched around for a decent reliable router. i came across this one and bought it from amazon for 30 quid. It supports 802.11b and 802.11g. It has 4 wired ports so that 4 computers can be connected simultaneously. It doesnt have a USB port. Setup : it came with the setup CD and it took around 15 - 20 mins. since it involves computer restart. I have a Virgin broadband connection so had to connect this router to the modem supplied by virgin. A ethernet wire is provided with this kit. Had no problems at all with the setup. The Belkin was by far the cheapest router at the time (I paid £50 in 2005) compared to most other models which were on average £20 more expensive for what I could see, was the same functionality. Great long-range router

...Wireless networking is almost taken for granted these days, and most people would hardly give it a second thought if it works properly. Belkin, unfortunately, took a bit of a hit in my eyes when two of their earlier model routers were plagued by overheating problems that shut down the wireless connection until allowed to cool and restarted. Happily, they seem to have overcome their problems. With one of the best reception ranges I've come across to date, I have no issues sitting in my garden while connected to the router around 30 metres (and 1 external wall, 2 internal walls) from me; actually, it goes further than that, but my garden doesn't!
