...~~~What is this product?~~~ This product allows your computer(s) or laptop(s) to become wireless so they can connect to the internet without having all the wires. Also so more than one computer can connect to the internet without having to have multiple connection sockets. Most new computers have a wireless device already installed so you can connect straight to the router however some computers which are over one year old do not. Cue the USB Network Adapter. Stupidly when I purchased the product I brought a card which takes hours to slot into the computer and involves dismantling the cover surrounding the technical parts. Later I realised that had I bought the USB Adapter all I had to do is put it into the USB socket. ...I always do my research before making an electronic purchase, have a look on the internet to see what products are availble, compare them against each other and then have a look at the price. If its not in my price range, i discard it! In the end, I went with teh Belkin, mainly because I know that Belkin do quality networking products. I already had a modem router at home, but i have three laptops that i needed to connect, and i don't like being bounded by wires (simply because that means everyone ends up in my room!) so i decided to invest in this. Already an advantage, this product came with a free USB wireless adapter! Firstly, the difference between wireless G and wireless B (802.11g or 802.11b) is that G is faster than B, by about 5 times (although this is the maximum). ...I've owned this router for just over 12 months now. Anyone who has read any of my reviews, would see that mostly I give glowing praise to most things. This is definitely an exception to that rule. As more households are getting more than one PC, it is obvious that the need for wireless internet technology is growing. Otherwise fights will occur and that's not healthy is it? ...Wireless routers have recently become the bane of my professional life. Having had major issues with 2 (relatively new models) wireless routers from an allegedly top manufacturer that I have been installing and configuring equipment from professionally for over 9 years. 5 replacements under warranty with exact and similar models failed to cure constant lockups and wireless connection drop outs being experienced by my client, often within hours of replacement! Nearing the end of my client's patience, there being little hair on my scalp left to forcibly extract and with my Valium prescription running low, I decided to try the router I have been using without major issue at home for the last 18 months. ...In recent weeks I seem to have spent time on nothing but setting up Wireless networks, so here goes, another review. First a bit of background on why I am looking at this model of router and also why you may be looking at such a requirement. Around a year ago I was asked to find a Broadband solution for a number of our remote users and at the time chose the Netgear DG834G (please see my review on this model for full information). Having bought around 100 of these models we have now had 5 fail for various reasons. At this point I thought it would be prudent to have another look at some of the other models available. ...I did a lot of research into routers before jumping onto the wireless bandwagon and eventually plumped for the Belkin and I am more than happy with my purchase. The Belkin was by far the cheapest router at the time (I paid £50 in 2005) compared to most other models which were on average £20 more expensive for what I could see, was the same functionality. ...Wireless components have been gradually creeping down and down in price over the last few months, to a point where I feel they are now completely accessible to the home market. The Linksys Broadband Router is ideal for anyone who wants to share their broadband connection to multiple computers in the home, without the hassle of hanging network cables out of windows or pulling all the floorboards up! Straight out the box the unit is aesthetically pleasing and contains everything to get you started. A word of warning however, the product contains a quick start guide which shows you the bare minimum to get the unit up and running, the actual manual is presented in a electronic format on CD-ROM.
