Neighbours

Advantages: read opp
Disadvantages: read opp

...This next review is on one of my favourite day time soaps, I figured I would write about it because of its new highly publicized move from BBC1 to channel five this month. Yup this review is on the Australian hit soap Neighbours, which was first, launched in 1985, and in 2005 celebrated its 20th anniversary. From a very young age, neighbours was watched in my household, my mother was a huge fan of it, and use to watch the evening show, having been at work during the daytime. It was something different and out of the norm, compared to the usual soaps such as Eastenders, and Coronation Street. The storylines were fresh, juicy and well funny at times. Since its launch many years ago, neighbours has covered so many dramatic storyline, deaths, weddings, crashes, fires and so on. Although I would agree in saying the show can be very cheesy, it...

Review of BBC1 - Neighbours

Everybody needs good neighbours

Advantages: Famous actors, Australian setting
Disadvantages: None

...Everybody needs good Neighbours One of my favourite Australian export shows is Neighbours and I have been a fan ever since I was a child, well over twenty years, as it first began airing in Australia in 1985 and in England in 1986! It is now shown on channel 5 in England. The show revolves around Ramsay Street in the fictional Australia town of Erinsborough. Ramsay street is a cul-de-sac which enables the residents to pop into each other?s houses with relative ease and generally live up to their reputations as nosy neighbours. Most of the residents are friends but of course you always get fights and scandal with people living that close to one another. I think this show works because it shows a street where you would actually like to be a resident. It makes the street look like fun and that you would love to have friends who...

Stepford Wives....... Build One

Advantages: It has fantastic potential, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler and Christopher walken
Disadvantages: Just about everything else. The script is full of holes and mis oppertunities, i couldnt accept Kidman and Broderick as a couple, it just didnt work

...The other night I decided to watch The Stepford Wives as I?d heard some encouraging things about it. A few people had recommended the book to me and the original film, but I thought I?d make my acquaintance with the story through the more recent version of the film. It boasted quite a star cast and the idea of the movie seemed creepy but entertaining. The original made back in 1975 is meant to be the better film and having watched this I?d certainly agree, without even seeing the original. Joanna (Nicole Kidman) has been a high powered TV exec for 5 years now. She?s created hundred?s of programs for the network and made it a real hit. Until one of the contestants from one of the shows tries to kill her for ruining his marriage. The network decides its best that she leaves and from there she goes on to have a nervous breakdown. Her...

Everybody needs good Neighbours!

Advantages: Got to see the sets
Disadvantages: Not what I expected

...Official Neighbours Tour When I was in Melbourne I decided to go and see the Neighbours sets and areas they film at. When I was younger I loved the show and had got back into watching it in the time I was living in Australia. **ITINERARY** We booked the tour in the YHA hostel and I was disappointed they did not pick us up here. Instead we had to walk about 25 minutes down to their offices to check in at the Neighbours reception. In the leaflet we were promised a free souvenir gift which we never received. We jumped onto a really worn bus with a rather uncomfortable seat. The tour guide informed us they were getting a new bus. Unfortunately this was no advantage to us. Instead we had to sit in the smelly heap of junk they called a bus. On the way to our first destination old footage of the soap was shown via a dvd (which could...

The Original Stepford Wives

Advantages: Interesting Background to the New Version
Disadvantages: No Nicole Kidman!

...Introduction We own both versions of, ?The Stepford Wives?, the original version and the recent, more popular version. This review deals with the former for two reasons. 1. It gives me an opportunity to do a review of a movie that no one has thus far reviewed on CIAO. 2. I?m a great believer that you get a better understanding of film re-makes if you?ve seen the original. So this review should be productive for my CIAO fund and your understanding of the original Stepford Wives. What I call, a win-win situation. Background: [based on Internet research and the DVD special features]. The original Stepford Wives is, like a lot of movies, based on a book. The book, carrying the same title as the film, was written in 1972 by Ira Levin who is also responsible for other great books-come-films, such as Rosemary?s Baby...

Neighbours

Advantages: Refreshing soap - always sunny there!
Disadvantages: Some bad actors in it

...Introduction ~~ Despite it being famous for unbelievably bad acting which has actually got better in recent years Neighbours has always been a firm favourite soap for teenagers. Although Neighbours has never just appealed to teenagers and young people, it has approached issues that do not affect young people and teenagers but usually old people. For example Madge's brave battle against cancer. Storylines ~~ Storylines in Neighbours have varied hugely. From typical soap affairs to car crashes to characters caught cheating in class to jobs being on the line its all happened in Neighbours. Though the producers seem to end our daily doss of Neighbours with a real cliffhanger. For example one Neighbours episode was about a court battle and just as a spokesman for the jury was to announce the verdict we heard the jolly Neighbours tune...

The Stepford Wives Remake

Advantages: A modern remake of a classic film.
Disadvantages: Doesn't really succeed

...The Stepford Wives Remake Recently I reviewed the original 1975 version of The Stepford Wives and thought it?d be enjoyable and interesting to follow that up with a review of the remake. Some background information will be repetitive but I have reduced that to the essentials and tried to take a new approach to this movie so that the ?boredom factor? won?t set in before you get to the main body of the review. According to the back cover of the DVD, ?The Stepford Wives?, 2004 is a ?re-imagining of the 1975 suspense classic?. That classic was in turn based on a book of the same title, by noted author Ira Levin so we are therefore looking at a third re-telling of this same story in different formats and with different slants. The question for this latest telling is whether it can pull off turning both the book and the first film into...

Stepford Wives: some assembly required

Advantages: funny, good plot idea, likeable characters
Disadvantages: end doesnt quite add up

...meet Claire Wellington (Glenn Close), a woman who seems to have come straight from the 1950's. Mrs Wellington is perfection personified - she is immaculately turned out, and attends to her husbands every whim in a flash. It soon becomes apparent to Joanna that all the wives in Stepford are like this- they all have Barbie doll figures, wear prom dresses 24/7 and follow their husbands round like lapdogs. At the towns summer picnic, Joanna meets Bobbie Markowitz (Bette Midler) a famous author of books such as 'I love you, but please die' and Roger Bannister (Roger Bart) a flamboyant, gay architect, both of whom have recently moved to Stepford with their partners. Bobbi and Roger are like a small slice of sanity for Joanna, as like her, they are both far from the perfection of the other people in Stepford. Together, the three of them set out...

Footballers Wives Extra Time

Advantages: Fantastic Entertainment
Disadvantages: None

...Footballers Wives Extra Time is a racy spin off from Footballers Wives which was aired on ITV2. It picks up from Footballers Wives Series four. The show is based on the lives footballers wives and their footballer husbands who play for Earls Park Football Club (Sparks). ITV2 aired the first episode of the spin off series introducing Anika Beevor. the sister of original footballer's wife Tanya Turner. Along with Bruno Milligan, his wife Lucy Milligan and his twins, a host of other characters, the first episode essentially picks up where Bruno is faced with the consequences of his unexpected confrontation with Conrad Gates. Many familiar faces of the cast of Footballers Wives make appearances in the first episode to introduce the new characters of Extra Time. Seb Webb, Harley and Shannon Lawson, Katie Jones and Amber Gates, appear in...

Not an Old Wives' Tale this time!

Advantages: easy relaxing read
Disadvantages: none

...I have just finished reading Young Wive's Tales by Adele Parks. She has written a number of books which I have enjoyed and this latest was just as good. It's also quite light reading and as there are some times when I don't want to have to tax my brain too much, it is an ideal read for those occasions. I was attracted by the title which is obviously a different take on the expression 'old wives' tales'! It was interesting as I read it though to note that the story is actually told by three different people of which only one could be classed as a 'young wife' The three story tellers are Rose (a divorcee who was once married to Peter), Lucy (who is married to Peter) and John (who can only be classed as a 'blokey bloke' but has had a fling with Connie who is a young wife!). The story covers about four months within the lives of these...
