...The hotpoint wma30 is generally an easy to use, reliable washing machine. You simply put in the clothes, add the detergent, turn the letter coded dial, then press start. Each different type of wash is given a letter and these are clearly labeled on the front of the washing machine, so it couldn't really get any simpler. In terms of wash time, well each cycle lasts about an hour and a half but it really does depend on what wash type you have it on. The washer speed is 1000rpm, which is good for a washing machine and you can use the time saver option, which reduces the time by quite a lot. The washing machine doesn't actually have a self dry facility like some of the more up-to-date models but the spin it does at the end of a cycle is so powerful, a lot of the smaller items come out dry anyway! Hotpoint Aquarius WMA 32 -hot machine.

Advantages: Good ,reliable machine .
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages.

The WMA 33 also has a variable temperature control but I don't think you really need that as you choose the cycle which sets the temperature at a suitable level in the first place. Now for the programmes, I wont go into all the variables possible , just bear in mind the buttons I have already described. A MAIN WASH, with pre-wash. Main wash reaches 95deg.C. B COTTON WASH,with pre-wash.Main wash reaches 40 deg.C. C WHITE COTTON WASH ,reaches 95deg C. D COLOURFAST COTTON, reaches 60deg C. E NON-COLOURFAST COTTON , reaches 40 degrees C . I do like these as they tell you what stage of the cycle your washing is at, these are door locked, prewash, wash, rinse&spin, final spin and end. I would suggest that reading the instructions is a good move. On my old machine the pre-wash was a short programme that you set separately before the main wash. I put some very dirty floor cloths in on the prewash setting, planning to add some extra items once the pre-wash had finished...

Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?

...The E-30 is Olympus's own stepping-stone between the so-called "prosumer" models (what an awful word) and the E-3 professional SLR, being loosely comparable with the likes of the Canon EOS 50D, the Nikon D90 and the Sony Alpha A-350. It shares a lot of the E-3's features and has even overtaken the E-3 in terms of resolution, offering 12mp compared with the E-3's 10. Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your opinion - some of its features are things that serious photographers don't really want on their cameras and definitely push the E-30 towards the hobby photographers rather than the professionals. The E-30 doesn't share the E-3's weatherproof casing, in fact it is built from a plastic/fibre-glass composite material, which helps to keep the weight down and, surprisingly to me, doesn't make it feel cheap.
