Advantages: Looks nice, bit of a novelly Disadvantages: Food really rather disappointing
...When I go to Antwerp I always enjoy trying out the local restaurants. Belgians (with the exception of the suicidal taxi driver I just met who didn't seem to have a positive bone in his body) tend to have a great attitude to food and drink. Any nation that can dedicate so much effort to the triple delights of chocolate, beer and chips has to be worthy of our admiration. However, since my friends who lived there moved back to the UK, I don't get so many chances to eat out when I visit and I was really pleased when our recent business meeting agenda arrived with 'Dinner' (or rather 'Diner' ? the host was French) written on the bottom. Surely I must be in for a bit of a treat.

Nobody had booked anything since the two hosts of the meeting were not local and are at the level of seniority that means they don...
...What is Big Wok?
*******************
Big Wok is a growing chain of fast food buffet restaurants, and the branch I am reviewing is the Nottingham branch. Its open from 12 noon till 11pm and the basic premise is simple - eat as much as you like from a huge selection of dishes, and pay one price for the meal and then extra for your drinks.
Do I need to reserve?
***********************
There?s no need to reserve, although you can. Simply turn up at the door when you wish to eat, and you'll generally be seated at a table within a few minutes. Generally, you get to stay for as long as you want, although on busy days you may be asked before being seated if you'd mind finishing up within 2 hours, and if you come in at lunchtime and stay beyond 6pm, you will also be charged the higher rate for the evening buffet.

Advantages: Looks good, extremely versatile Disadvantages: Heavy
...anything else and frankly we didn't have the room for anything else in our little kitchen. However that didn't stop me from drooling over the ever expanding range of Le Creuset products and picking up the odd bargain along the way. All of this changed though in October last year when we moved!
Welcome to our larger kitchen with its lovely new gas hob and large double ringed wok burner. There was only product that was going to sit on that ring and that was the Le Creuset Wok with Glass Lid. However there was a plot afoot and every time I went to buy one in John Lewis or House of Fraser my husband would drag me away. I was getting annoyed at this because I hated using my tired old large frying pan to do stir fries in. But it became apparent why at Christmas when my Mum and Dad produced this huge box containing my lovely new granite coloured...
Advantages: Loads of variety Disadvantages: No parking
...Who in Nottingham has not heard of Big Wok? It's situated in the old Co-Op building in the centre of town. The main down side of this is that there is no parking, you have to use either a NCP car park or park in one of the shopping centre car parks.
I have actually lost count of the amount of times I have visited Big Wok. I have been during the weekday afternoons, weekends, school holidays and for 1 evening meal. It is always fairly busy with school holidays being the longest I have had to wait to be seated.
The Ambiance
--------------------
It is a very large building set out more as a canteen than a restaurant. As you enter the door a member of staff shows you to a table and takes your drink order.
There are a mixture of round and square tables with the food carts (not sure of proper name of these, hot plate type...
Advantages: quick healthy eating Disadvantages: unlikely to be used regularly
..."New Year New Me", well that was what was supposed to happen. I just had my second baby in December and with Christmas and all I found myself somewhat larger than my usual size. I decided like thousands of others that 2004 was going to be the year I got thin!! Having tried various diets such as Weight Watchers, Atkins, Scottish Slimmers etc I made up my mind to eat more healthily.
I really fancied a juicer but my preferred make, the Anthony Worral Thomson Breville Juicer comes in at around £90 so I decided on the somewhat cheaper Ken Hom Wok at £14.99 from my local Argos. I had always been told that wok cooking was healthy way to cook and thought I would give it a try.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
The wok itself looks very professional - black with a wooden handle engraved with Ken Hom's signature. You will need to assemble the wok by...

Review of Ken Hom Wok
Advantages: Cheap, Lots of choice. Disadvantages: Gets Very Busy.
...The first time I went to the Big Wok was with a colleague from work, its in a side street near The Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham, if I hadn't been taken there I would of never have gone as it quite easy to drive past.
The location isn't ideal as it is quite easy to miss, but it is quite close to the bars and clubs in the Arcadian centre.
We usually park in the Arcadian centre car park but if that's full there is an NCP car park right next to the Big Wok
The Address: 5 Wrottesley Street, Birmingham
Telephone Number: 0121 666 6800
Since being introduced I have gone back several times, its ideal if you want a cheap meal before going to theatre.
Depending on time visiting you may have to queue before being able to get in. The busiest times I have found are Friday and Saturday nights also on Sunday lunchtime.
Also if there is...
Advantages: You can cook anything in it Disadvantages: A bit on the heavy side
...Well low and behold someone finally took the hint that I needed a new wok, and santa brought it. This is the second ken hom wok that I have owned. The first one I got was when I was 15 and that was 10 years ago, and I have only just thrown it out, as it was starting to rust. So I was very pleased when I received this for christmas. It is not often that something I own lasts any length of time but 10 years is good. Lets start with how durable this wok is. Now I use my wok for everything, and when I say everything I mean everything. I make stir fry's, soup, mince, stew and I even use it to deep fry things. So I use my wok about 3 to 4 times a week, the rest of the time we have take out or hubby cooks (not very often but some times he will cook).
Right what size is it? Well I am sure that my new wok is a little smaller than my old...

Review of Ken Hom Wok
Advantages: Mouth-watering, scrumptious food - you can't get enough of it! Disadvantages: It's on the Great Cambridge Roundabout (A10).
...Ever stuck with what to eat on a Friday night? Well, try Cho's Magic Wok. It's the most tastiest and the most reasonably priced take-away Chinese food this side of the river! Being a strict vegetarian, I sometimes find it extremely difficult finding a good, clean restaurant for take-out, but Cho's is an exception. They have a very wide selection of traditional and modern Chinese and oriental dishes, my favourite being Stir-fried mixed vegetables (£3.50) with Egg-fried rice (£2.50). Other gastronomical delights include Mixed meat with stir-fried vegetables on either rice or chow-mein (£5.20), Chicken chow mein (£3.20), as well as other favourites, such as prawn crakers, spring rolls and sweet and sour pork. Talk about fast food, your order is cooked before your very eyes in a matter of minutes, so they don't keep you hanging round...

Review of Magic Wok, London
Advantages: great, easy recipes Disadvantages: not all ingredients easily available
...I only saw a couple of episodes of the 2008 BBC TV series ?Chinese Food Made Easy? presented by the lovely Ching-He Huang but what I saw really impressed me as each week she would go out onto the streets with a portable gas stove and a wok and get a group of ordinary people to cook one of her dishes with her trademark phrase ?Wok On? signalling time to start cooking. The food all looked delicious and healthy and easy to make and I knew I had to get the book when it came out.
The book ?Chinese Food Made Easy? is a spin off from the TV series but you need not have seen the TV programmes to appreciate how good the book is. The book dispels the myth that real Chinese food is greasy, deep fried and MSG laden like the offerings that we get from our local take away. The recipes come from a variety of areas of China and are all packed full...
Advantages: Tasty and a Bargain Disadvantages: Not open 24 hours!!!
...The WokWok restaurant in East Didsbury, Manchester must be one of the best value for money establishments in Manchester. It is typical that Chinese is more expensive in restaurants than perhaps Indian meals however with prices from £6.95 (lunch buffet) to £9.95 (weekday evening buffet) and £12.95 (weekend evening buffet) it is very difficult to argue with the bill at the end of your meal.
WokWok also serve a normal but very interesting menu offering some dishes that cannot be found on the Buffet tables. I have visited a number of times both in the evening and on all occasions there were at least 8 different starter dishes and 10 main meal dishes with rice and noodles.
The starters are very refreshing with beautiful chinese soup, fruit (pineapple, melon, water melon and oranges) chicken wings, ribs and spring rolls. Naturally...
