Welcome To Wolverhampton

Advantages: A warm welcome for everyone
Disadvantages: Traffic...as in all city centres

...I am delighted to be able to add Wolverhampton to the Ciao City Guide at last, following the recent granting of city status to this historical town in the West Midlands.I live just a few miles from the new city and have worked and shopped there for over fifteen years. If you have never visited Wolverhampton I hope to tempt you with my review. Wolverhampton is a city with a long history. In 985 a charter was granted by King Aethelred (the Unready) to Lady Wulfruna and this marked the beginning of ?the town on the hill.?In turn, Lady Wulfruna gave a piece of land for the building of a monastery, now the site of the impressive Church of St Peter. With a long established tradition of being a market town, Wolverhampton is an excellent shopping centre. The markets, indoor and outdoor, and recently revamped, offer quality and value for money...

Wolverhampton- my home

Advantages: Easy to get to, lots to see and do
Disadvantages: at this time of year overcrowding

...I have lived in Wolverhampton my whole life and love it, whenever people have said how disgusting Wolverhampton is, I am the first person to defend my hometown. So I'm going to try and write this review with a balanced attitude. First of all I will warn people not to go until after the January sale's, I really hate shopping at this time of year-people are shouting, pushing, getting angry and this is for both christmas and the January sale's! To get to Wolverhampton. First of all to get into Wolverhampton there is a very reliable bus and tram service. The Buses run quite regularly (they range from every 10 minutes to every half a hour depending which bus you want) and go to many places such as Walsall, Birmingham, Stafford, Cannock, Telford, Dudley and many small urban villages. The Metro goes all the way from Snow Hill...

Review of Getting Around in Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton civic hall - blast off "club"

Advantages: Good music for certain people - indie rock and people dressing up
Disadvantages: not that many people.................

...Wolverhampton little civic alonside the wulfrun, caters for a great variety of music. They are all centrally located in wolverhampton, a good 15 minutes walk most likely less to get to them from the train station. At times there are some really cheap gigs on, especially if your a music lover you may be able to find a good up and coming band that have yet to be signed or "famous" so it could be fairly cheap. The sound is great, the hall caters for a large crowd. Be careful as sometimes people at the front near the stage, can get quite rowdy so theres a lot of pushing and shoving! Saturdays, the civic hall holds blast off which is an indie based club. I have to admit the club itself looks shabby with a few random out of place tables dotted around the edge of a large hall. The place is dead with bad music before 12, so only go after...

Review of Wolverhampton Civic Hall

Wolverhampton a CITY to be proud of....

Advantages: Great nightlife, shops, bars, resturants and tourist paces to go and view
Disadvantages: Caotic most days and hard to find somewhere to park. Best to get on a bus or taxi.

...Wolverhampton town centre is a great place to go. Not just for shopping but also to tour many famous places around the city. Wolverhampton has great nightlife with clubs such as Atlantis,Adastra,Canal Club,The Beach and many class A clubs. The town is jammed packed most nights after 9pm, with fun loving clubbers or just nightout people. There are great places to just go for a drink like Heros,Chicago rock cafe,Bedazzled and O'Neills but there are also loads surrounding the city. The university is big and has been called on of the best in the West Midlands. When taking a trip into Wolverhampton its good to go and see the art gallery. Its nearly always open throughout the day and has great pieces of art inside for all ages to view. If football's your thing then go and check out the Molineux, home ground for Wolverhampton Wanderers...

A tale of Wolverhampton Uni and the Telford Campus

Advantages: Big student population, cheap housing
Disadvantages: Bit ugly, not the best reputation amongst employers

...Please remember to rate the review please I’ve got to say I don’t know why I went to this Uni. I did really badly at my A Levels, this was back in the days before everyone had the internet and you could crib all your course work! Just joking everybody under 23! No, I discovered booze, birds and other things I won’t mention here and good A-Level results was at back of the agenda. Don’t get me wrong I don’t regret my College years, they were some of the best years of my life. Before I signed up for 4 years in Wolves I went down to the University to check it out, little did I know that the open day was in Telford (30 minutes away). So instead of travelling down to Telford my next door neighbour and I (who also went to Wolves) decided to get hammered in the pubs around Wolverhampton. We had a great...

Review of Wolverhampton University

Wolverhampton Science Park

Advantages: Good level of education, State of the art computers.
Disadvantages: none

...I chose this university as it was the only one which offered a state of the art Multimedia course. I started a four year course in 1995. I was based at the Wolverhampton Science Park which was a newly built state of the art building. The education level was good and the lecturers were great. What was particularly positive and/or negative about it? I was always able to reach lecturers through either the internal phone system or email. Security of the building was really good as every student was given a swipe card. Students were able to park their cars in the free car park provided at the Wolverhampton Science Park. I can?t think of any negative points about this university. The kind of person who would love this university is someone who does not mind the small town atmosphere....

Come Stay at the Travelodge Wolverhampton

Advantages: Pretty Cheap, Clean
Disadvantages: Dodgy Swipe cards, misleading room images on website

...Limehouse Lizzy were playing in Wolverhampton, so, as my boyfriend?s house was an expensive taxi ride away and it was valentines we decided to make a weekend of it. (Yes, in Wolverhampton: P) We booked online (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/searchandbook) and chose the saver rate, it is cheaper but non refundable should you have to cancel. The rooms are all standard images on the website but can be much different as we found out when we stayed in the Oldham Travelodge a few months later. This one had been taken over from a once fancy hotel and was quite run down. It was clean but not exactly modern. The booking process is simple the site takes you through room requirements and an extras page. Some of these can extras can be expensive. You have to register with the site when you book, but it doesn?t take too much time. Despite...

The Place to See Painted Enamels

Advantages: Wonderful enamels collection. Central location.
Disadvantages: Industrialised.

...If you associate painted enamels exclusively with France, Italy and China, you would only be partially correct. England, too, has a very proud tradition of enamelware and one of the best places to see these fine products is Wolverhampton. The area around Wolverhampton was one of the greatest centres in Europe for the crafting of wonderful painted enamels. So if you only associated Wolverhampton with soccer - the Wolves- or athletics with Wolverhampton and Bilston AC-think again, products of great beauty as well great utility have been produced in the "Black Country". When French craftsmen, fleeing religious persecution in their homeland, sought refuge across the English Channel, they brought the art of enameling with them. Some settled in the English Midlands town of Bilston (then located in County Staffordshire), and near...

Quality music venue

Advantages: Well planned, good location
Disadvantages: Not used as much as it could be anymore

...For those of us who enjoy live music, we'd go anywhere to listen to the bands we love. However, it's important to recognise that the enjoyment of a live music experience can be greatly heightened by a good venue. What do we need to look for in a good venue? Well, first of all, we need good acoustics. However, acoustics along are no good without the capacity to back them up. And, of course, we need good layout and facilities. The Wolverhampton Civic Hall satisfies all these qualities. Based in the centre of the town, it attracts many big name bands, usually one of their last stops before they graduate to the larger arenas like the Birmingham NEC, because they've grown to big. I've seen many bands at the Civic, so I can vouch for the acoustics, and the capacity is around 2000, plenty enough for a venue of it's size. This is added to...
