...I first came across New Woman magazine about two years ago. I was at a friend’s house and saw it lying there on her coffee table. Me, being a bit nosy decided to pick it up and have a quick flick through. I was engrossed!! As soon as I left my friend’s house I rushed to my local newsagent and picked up a copy of my own. Now, I’m not going to focus on one particular copy, I am going to give a general insight to what the magazine is about and what I enjoy about it. Also, I am not putting this in the order of the magazine – I am breaking it down into sections that I feel would be of more use for people. ...Versace Woman ~ Eau De Parfum Versace Woman is a perfume which my husband bought for me about eight months or so ago. I've bought quite a few Versace perfumes over the years and likes everyone of them because they smell lovely and most of them have good staying power. Versace woman is a fragrance which was launched in 2000, although I had never seen nor heard of this fragrance until I received it as a gift from my husband. As I received this perfume as a gift I am unsure of how much it cost; I did a search on Yahoo and a 100ml bottle of this perfume costs between £29-45 depending on where you purchase it from. The reason this perfume is as expensive is because it is an Eau De Parfum fragrance. As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the bottle is really nicely shaped and coloured. ...Paul was travelling back down the M1 when I received a phone call from him. “I need a drink but I’ve only got my credit card. Do you want a magazine?” “Yeah OK – you know the kind I like – She, New Woman, Eve, something like that” Well being a man who knows his place and not wanting to make the wrong decision he bought all 3 for me. New Woman used to be by far my favourite magazine. It was always the one I would choose off a newsagent’s shelf as it had a nice balance of humour and real life stories that I was interested in reading. In fact I used to read it like a book from cover to cover, folding over the corner of the page I had reached so I didn’t miss a single word. However, it’s had a bit of a revamp. Advantages: a diary that spans most of the 20th Century
Disadvantages: Won't appeal to everyone

...In her introduction to Diary of an Ordinary Woman, Margaret Forster explains how she came to edit the diaries of Millicent King which Millicent had kept from 1914 to 1995. She was approached, she tells us, by Joanna, the wife of Millicent’s nephew. Joanna had read some of Forster’s other books, notably Hidden Lives a moving testimony to the (often difficult) lives of Forster’s own mother and grandmother and feels that the author would be able to “ make something” of Millicent’s writings. She also probably feels that Forster because she is something of a social historian, interested in women’s issues and skilled at chronicling “real” lives, would handle the material in a sympathetic way. At first Forster is reluctant to get too involved - she speaks to Millicent - now aged 98; still sprightly but no longer writing her diary... Read review

I know that many women find it a joy to be pregnant but wouldn’t it be nice to make the man go through it when it gets to the morning sickness, baby jumping on your bladder, not being able to see your toes etc! ...That is exactly what the front cover says, 'You can't put a new woman down'. I found New Woman by accident whilst browsing through the shelves in my local supermarket about a year ago. I looked at the content and some of the stories looked very interesting, so I bought a copy, and then got a subscription and the rest is history. New Woman has a good mix of celebrity, beauty, fashion, true life, and sex. There is certainly lots of sex in every issue in some form or another (in this months issue try digesting 'The real reason he's not having sex with you anymore'), along with Nicole Kidman talking frankly about her life after Tom Cruise. The women celebs they interview come across as real people, with real problems that real women can realte to and that is certainly one of the magazines strengths. After a few years releasing singles and albums without any succed outside their native Canada, they finally made it with this "American Woman", their best album (I'm not completelly sure about this...), from 1970. The cover of the album, as you see in the photograph above, shows the members of the band and the face of a blond woman (american, I guess), and the back cover shows the members of the band (again) sitting on a table just looking very seriously to the camera. About the name of the band, the story is interesting. At the begining, they where "Chad Allan and the expresions", "Chad Allan and The Reflections" (with that name, they were the first band to introduce the music of the Beatles to Canadian audiences), and some other names, until the group boasted a new name. ...The Whole Woman is the first book I've read on feminism. Sure, I had read articles on feminism and there is a lot of feminism portrayed in various media, but never before have I taken the time to read a book on the subject. Germaine Greer is an acquired taste - her views are often seen as controversial and they are only one woman's perspective of feminism. This isn't a commentary on feminism: it is a set of personal explanations and recommendations. The book is split into sections, which are divided into smaller chapters. The titles used for these chapters explain the subject matter without frills; they include 'sex' 'girlpower' 'breasts' and 'sisters'. This makes the book seem a bit like Greer picking topics out of a hat to rant about, which is great in some ways but maybe a little chaotic in others. The most refreshing thing... Read review

...When Shania first arrived in Nashville she ran into alot of problems. First of all, Shania is a writer and her record company wouldn't let her write her own songs, second of all, Shania appeared to be to opinionated for Nashvilles taste. Shania truly thought she'd never make it, until she met 'Mutt' Lange, legendary producer of great acts such as Bryan Adams and AC/DC. When Shania and 'Mutt' met all the pieces finally formed and she was saved. The Woman In Me is the first album Twain and Lange wrote together, and is the album that they fell in love making. This is Shania's second album, her debut was a Nashville record but this one, Shania says, is all her. Shania has put her heart and soul into this record, and it shows.
