...The first thing I should say about my reading of Norwegian Wood was that in a single particular it was not faithful to the Japanese print run, which is that mine was a single printed and bound edition, and not the red-half, green-half you might come across.... having got that out of the way, I can tell you about the contents. Norwegian Wood is a rather condensed moment of poised literary brilliance. I approached it with trepidation, since it was so widely lauded and applauded and that, in the spirit of wilful cynicism, always throws a spanner into my appreciative works. But in this case, I was willing to go with the crowd, not in a loud, baying way, because it's simply not the kind of book that I feel merits that kind of reaction; it's a quiet, thoughtful, lyrical read, and as such deserves a quiet, thoughtful, admiring reaction...

An author introduced to me by my daughter, and I am now reading my way through every book I can get my hands on that he has written! The Woods is another stand alone novel by Coben, and another fantastic thriller which I found difficult to put down until I had finished it, and had me hooked from the first page. Under Milk Wood - It's a play for voices boyo

Advantages: Fantastic words that are wonderful read or listened to.
Disadvantages: None for me

...While clearing out some stuff I came across an old audio cassette of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood' from when I did my English A Level. Sadly the cassettes are no use to me anymore, cassettes being a victim of the technology revolution. But just seeing the cassettes sent me out to get a new copy of the book, I just had to read it again. Sadly no hypnotic Welsh voice of Richard Burton, but still the wonderful words sounded Welsh in my brain as I read the words in front of me. As I read about 'the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea', I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck tingling - God I love that book!! For those of you who do not know the book, it is actually a 'play for radio' written in in 1953 by the wonderful Dylan Thomas. It actually started out with the title 'Quite Early One Morning...

Mr Sheen got my wood nice and clean

...Before I begin my review of this product I thought I would just let you know the challenge I face when cleaning wood in our cottage. The man who owned the place before us was a carpenter and we have a lot of handmade wooden items here including all the skirting boards, 10 solid wood doors, 2 sets of built in wardrobes with matching cupboards, a hand built kitchen complete with wooden settle, hand built wooden storage for coats shoes and umbrellas in the porch, bathroom cupboards and bath panel, shelves in the lounge, dining room and over every radiator, wooden panels over each window to fix the curtain rails to and a lovely hand built wooden staircase. So as you can see cleaning wood in this house is going to be a big job. Oh and for good measure you also need to factor in the log burner and the fact that the staircase leads straight off...

...Whitethorn Woods is based in a small sleepy Irish town . As it was getting busier in Rossmore the residents were discussing whether to have a bypass . The idea for a bypass had mixed feelings with the locals.If it did go ahead the bypass will have to go through an area of woodland which was called Whitethorn Woods and the well which was dedicated to a St Ann who was supposed to have spiritual powers and people come to to it to help with their various problems.We are introduced to one of the main charcters in the book straight away and he is called Father Brian Flynn the curate. He then travels around and visits some of the locals and we start to get a flavour of the book. It is very easy to read and the storyline is a little simple but as i enjoy reading Maeve Binchy I stuck at it but I can say it was not one of her better novels...

...Written in 1981, The Woods Are Dark is Richard Laymon’s second novel. And it shows. The story is set in the town of Barlow, where the locals kidnap and rob tourists to take out to the Killing Trees, where they are offered as sacrifices to the barbaric Krull tribe that live in the woods. People like Sherri and Neala, and the Dills family are rounded up by the town’s “Delivery Men.” This arrangement has gone on for generations, as tourists are robbed and then handed over to the Krulls to murder or breed from. However, when Delivery Man Johnny Robbins falls in love with Neala, after chaining her to one of the Killing Trees and leaving her for the Krulls, he decides to break the rules, rescue the girl and flee Barlow, taking his sister and niece with him.
