Prison Vs Work - Simple Evaluation
Review of Everything that starts with P ... by
Groover
Advantages: You will know which is which !
Disadvantages: You may wish you were in prison !
...Researchers have been evaluating the simple differences between work and prison, some of you may be shocked at the results.... see below for a detailed breakdown of how the two differ:
Just in case you ever got the two mixed up.
This should make things a bit clearer.
IN PRISON.. you spend the majority of your time in an 8X10 cell.
AT WORK... you spend the majority of your time in a 6X8 cubicle.
IN PRISON... you get three meals a day.
AT WORK... you only get a break for one meal and you pay for it.
IN PRISON... you get time off for good behaviour.
AT WORK... you get more work for good behaviour.
IN PRISON... the guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
AT WORK... you must carry around a security card and open all the doors for yourself.
IN PRISON... you can watch TV and play games.
AT WORK... you...

my flexible friend
Review of Flexible Working by
fairclaire
Advantages: great if you have a family to think of
Disadvantages: none!
...I have been working 'flexi-time' now for about 4 years.
We have core hours in the place I work. These are between 10am and 3pm and you have to be in work between those hours. Besides the core hours I can fit the rest of my working week into the hours of 7am until 7pm.
My working week is 37 hours. I have to have a minimum of half an hour for lunch unpaid every day, but I can take up to two and a half hours if I need to. I don't strictly have to work 37 in a week. I can work less or more as long as my flex-time is within the allowed limits at the end of each 4 week period...sound complicated I know, but it's not.
I very often work more hours than I need to in order to save for extra time off. I am allowed 2 and a half days off in flexi-time in any 4 week period. Although I try to keep my hours up as much as I can, the system allows...

STOP FIDDLING WITH MY BITS
Review of Working from Home by
barrytoplis
Advantages: Great get up when you like
Disadvantages: Nobody to talk to.
...I have always said to myself that I would love to be able to work from home but my opinion now has changed since my partner started doing just that.
We have a 3 year old daughter and she goes to the childminders for 4 days a week but on Mondays she is at home and I have to go off to work so my partner has her all to herself and has to try and get loads of work done as well.
So she is constantly having to juggle looking after our daughter and speaking to buisness contacts who are always curious as to the noises in the background.
My daughter also has a habit of hitting buttons on the keyboard of the computer and once even managed to delete loads of work off the screen.
But even if you don't have children it is still not a great way to work as you do get very lonely and your home suddenly becomes the office as well(unless you have...

Partnership made in Heaven
Review of Work Partnership by
Aidengrace
Advantages: lots of contracts, staff incentives
Disadvantages: contracts are often for people only with their own transport, rates of pay can be poor
...Over the past few months for one reason or another I have been out of work. I had been applying for endless jobs and I was either not suitable or I was told that my name would be kept on record in case something did become available in the future. This was very depressing because as hard as I tried I could not find any work.
Out of sheer desperation and frustration I decided that my only option was to "temp" for a while until a permanent position became available for me. I applied to many of the local recruitment agencies and for weeks I was just doing the odd days work here and there. Then a friend told me about the Work Partnership. I signed up and within a day or two I was working on a long term contract.
The rates of pay with The Work Partnership are not brilliant for some jobs but they nearly all exceed the National Minimum...

Perfect for the early twenties working woman
Review of Next (Shop) by
Victoria
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...I started shopping in Next when I turned 21 and have found it to be the best shop around for work wear and casual wear.
Although the prices are fairly expensive all the clothing is very good quality and is made to last. The work range in particular gives you lots to choose from.
Next evening wear until recently was not too good with not much selection to choose from however they have now broadened their range and there is plenty to choose from.
This shop is perfect for the early twenties category, the young office working female....

long and crap
Review of The Third Book - Francois Rabelais by
lewiscrofts
Advantages: few
Disadvantages: long and tedious
...This is a deviation from the usual progression of the “Gargantua” cycle. There is less scatology than has been the case in the earlier works and this is effectively a discourse on the contemporary issues surrounding love, marriage, women and divination. Its structure is less apparent than the earlier works and due to its strange conceptual subject matter is therefore difficult to follow. It is the least attractive of Rabelais’ main works and is quite inaccessible. I would recommend others before this one, although linguistically it can be hilarious. Long and contorted....

Excellent MS Company to work for
Review of Optimum Contact Limited (Mystery Shopping) by
crystaltipps5648
Advantages: Professional, pay for quality work
Disadvantages: Short time frames to do assignments
...Optimum Contact pay for quality work. If you like quick burger shop jobs where you just fill in a multichoice report, go to Gapbuster - Optimum Contact are not for you.
I have worked for OC for a few years now. The work is steady - you get one or two assignments a month. Most work is in the financial sector - mortgage interviews, savings reviews etc. They also do some leisure based work, but this is rarer. Most work involves a visit, although phone work is available too.
Assignments generally take over an hour to do and then at least that to write up. The reports are detailed and require free type comments throughout. You also need a good memory or in my case a concealed dictaphone to remember everything that was said and observed.
OC do not pay travelling expenses / time. But they pay a good rate for the 2.5 ish hours required to do...

WORK, REST AND PLAY
Review of Flexible Working by
blurbubble
Advantages: Less stress, more modern approach
Disadvantages: Not all jobs can be flexible
...No this isn't going to be about Mars Bars (remember their old ad line?!)
It's a bit ironic me choosing to write about this topic at the moment actually given that I have been unable to work for about two and half years now due to illness/disability but prior to that I had worked full time all my adult life so far so I think that gives me some perspective on both sides.
I think it is well known and charted that generally in the UK we work the longest hours within Europe together with fewer holidays and less public/National holidays too. There is also apparently a high record of sick absence due to work related stress and industrial accidents. Of course on the other side of the coin if you look to far Eastern countries they often work even longer hours but that is not the point in hand.
Many people will confess to being workaholics...
