Word Series of Poker on the Sony PSP Portable
Review of World Series Of Poker (PSP) by
wookiee
Advantages: Poker on PSP, proper global wi-fi multiplayer
Disadvantages: Graphics not so good, some long loading
...Are you a gambling addict or do you want to gamble but not lose money - well World Series of Poker on the Sony PSP it probably for you. The game includes several different types of poker including Texas Hold-Em and Ohio. You can play against top computer controlled players and work your way through various World Series championships. The AI is pretty good and you feel like you are gambling with real people.
Graphics - the graphics are ok - all the characters and tables are well modelled and look good on the PSP screen. The backgrounds could be better, but it all looks fine.
Sound - not much sound - could be better a small amount of commentary, audience noise and card sound effects. This could of done with a good snappy theme tune
Longevity - this will keep you going for a month or so. Then you might dip back into it if you...

Utterly Terrible
Review of Learn How Poker Academy DVD by
orionmoo
Advantages: Beginners MAY find it OK
Disadvantages: No tips for current players what-so-ever
...One day, I was in the Speke Retail Park with a bit of extra cash I had. I was originally looking for a book on poker, for novices/amateurs, but I found nothing in Borders or W H Smith, so I gave up and walked into HMV. I was just looking through the DVD's when I saw this and one other DVD on poker. Can't remember what one it was, but anyway. This DVD was £17.99, t'other £19.99. Me being me, I opted for the cheaper option, but this DVD did look better than the other.
"LEARN TO WIN AT POKER" it says in a big red kite shape at the top of the case and "Featuring Mike Reid & Jakki Degg" at the bottom. So I thought, "Hmmm. This looks interesting." So I picked up up and started to read the 'back of the box'.
"Lee Jackson (Nick Morgan) is barred from all the best Casinos in the world. His problem is he's too good. The Poker Academy is his top...

NEVER PLAY POKER WITH A MAN CALLED AMARILLO SLIM!
Review of Poker for Dummies - IDG Books by
tractor-boy
Advantages: Punchy incisive information, no poker babble, humourous in places
Disadvantages: None of note!
...and priceless insights. With this book in hand it will be me who gets the last laugh when I take him to the cleaners and leave him token free at our next poker night.
Since late 1991 the 'for dummies' guides have revolutionised the world of the reference book, a brand that started by addressing the complexities of the DOS operating system soon spread to encompass all manner of computer programs, utilities and the internet. Once it was discovered consumers were snapping up the books in large quantities the brand was extended still further, so that virtually all of life's trials and tribulations can be better prepared for with a distinctive yellow and black guide which the publishers like to call "a reference for the rest of us!" That said it would be a brave man or woman who whips out the latest edition to the series - 'Sex for Dummies...

Good alternative choices
Review of Channel 4 by
BIGHORSE
Advantages: Versatile and alternative
Disadvantages: Can be inconsistent in quality
...The best thing about Channel 4 is the wide range of programs that they are willing to show. One which had captivated interest and helped stimulate the growth of the game in Britain is the fantastic Late Night Poker in which some top Texas Hold 'Em Poker players compete against each other for a £40,000 prize and a free $10,000 buy-in to the World Series of Poker at the legendary Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. This typifies the type of programme that Channel 4 are willing to take a risk with, and although this was on a Friday Night at 12:45 am or later it still attracted over 1 million viewers, testament to Channel 4's versatility and bravery....

World Series Of Poker Tournament Of Champions
Review of World Series of Poker: Tournament Champions (PS2) by
buck3t
Advantages: Excellent for learning how to play strong tournament poker
Disadvantages: Gameplay can be slow
...I bought this game when it finally came out for the Ps2 on march 16th 2007. I paid £17.95 for it as it was a deal of the week in Game stores. Now the prices varies and you can pay anywhere from £25 to £39.99 depending on where you look for it. Game features include Quickplay where you can play a sit and go, a tournament or a regular game of holdem. Also in quickplay you can plat other poker varients to learn how to play other games. In career mode is where the game is most enjoyable. You start off in a home game with some of your friends, but its no ordinary home game. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson (2000 World Series Of Poker Main Event Winner) is there to find a promising rookie to take under his wing and guide towards wining the champion of champions tournament. Before that though you must win your home game and progress through smaller buy...

Who is the King of Darts
Review of World Darts Championship by
Aj2001
Advantages: Entertaining, exciting, quick and simple
Disadvantages: Physically demandind
...Although Phil 'The Power' Taylor won the Skol World Championship but he is not the undisputed world champion because of a split that means there are two world championships. The other World Championship, the WDO was won by John 'The Boy' Walton who beat Ted 'The Count' Hankey with a stunning performance.
The two must now surely meet up to decide who is the real 'King of Darts' in a glamorous battle of the titans. These matches have happened before with Taylor dispatching Ray Barnaveld easily and they have been fairly disappointing encounters. But Walton and Taylor seem more evenly matched with both having the talent to hit 180's on demand and also being able to hit doubles with ease. I think that Taylor would just have too much in this closet for Jon 'the Boy' Walton to take.
Come on boys, Let’s play Darts....

Last effort from a poker legend
Review of The Hand I Played - David Spanier by
BIGHORSE
Advantages: Well-written, diverse
Disadvantages: Not everyone's cuppa no doubt
...about, nor indeed go out and search out this book.
However, the book is not only suitable for people who knew who Spanier was, or know a lot about poker. There is more to this work than that. He tells a compelling story, with exerpts from his own childhood, including his school career at Charterhouse, one of the most famous public schools in England. He describes compellingly the way he was drawn into the taboo world of horse race betting at an early (and indeed illegal) age, and how an innocent public schoolboy looked at the situation in those days.
He continues to describe his time at university (Cambridge), and his first forays into the seedy (in those days) world of poker, especially stud games and Texas Hold 'Em games, in a certain establishment in London. The tragic stereotypes which one often associates with people who are heavily...

Be a Manager
Review of Championship Manager 2 (PC) by
green182
Advantages: Its a new step up for management simulator games
Disadvantages: the graphics are poor, but you don't need them, cos the game is so good without them
...This was made when Championship Manager was still pretty much in its early stages, whether you try Championship manager 2, (96/97), or the more prestigous championship manager 2 97/98, you'll agree its a groundbreaking game for football fanatics. You probably have to have a good knowledge of the game to play this well, but, after playing any championship manager game, you'll gain a good knowledge of football. for instance whilst watching the world cup you'll be able to name the team that every Peru or Saudi Arabia player plays for.
Such is the addictiveness of championship manager, you'll be thinking of future transfers whilst being at work at school. Theres's nothing better than being able to discuss your tactics with friends and boast about your achievements.
There is also a very useful update facility on the 97/98 version...
