Khan Is Back And Not A Happy Chappie

Advantages: It is Star Trek for Trekkies
Disadvantages: Kirstie Alley's performance

...Well - here goes - I started with the first film and now I'm on to number 2! I may not be a trekkie, but I do have to sit and watch them so I might as well write my opinions down. As said, this is the second of 10 Star Trek films spanning 30 years. This can be picked up on blah.com for as little as £5.99 (P&P free as well!). Omar Khan's? It's OK

Advantages: Good central location, pleasant surroundings, tasty food at good prices
Disadvantages: Service a little slow at times, average for Bradford

...Omar Khan's is a fairly traditional Indian restaurant situated in the centre of Bradford. We were in town for a weekend of curry and had eaten lunch that day at a very modern establishment so I wanted to go for the more traditional British "curry house" in the evening. I found Omar Khan's listed on the Visit Bradford website and a look at the restaurants own website was encouraging. The restaurant is situated on the south side of the city centre, beside the national Television and Media Museum and the Alhambra Theatre. The restaurant has a small car-park but there are other car-parks nearby and it's a five minute walk to the train and bus stations at Bradford Interchange. Hours Would Seem Like Days.......

Advantages: Revitalised and refreshed background stories.
Disadvantages: Kirk and Khan never meet face to face!

The crew of the Reliant are looking for a suitable planet that must be baron of life to test the Genesis device. On what they think is a baron planet, they discover is an old enemy of Kirk's from the past who wants revenge. His name is Khan Noonian Singh and Kirk exiled Khan for attempting to take control of the Enterprise 15 years before. Khan steals the Reliant to find Kirk. Admiral Kirk accompanies the now promoted Captain Spock on a training cruise with the full compliment of cadets. Without any notice Enterprise is met by the Reliant..... Fear, Wrath and Hope

Advantages: Superb story, informative, emotional and entertaining.
Disadvantages: Depressing - emotionally difficult to read.

...builds pace into a crescendo that's simply amazing. Steinbeck takes the most mundane of descriptions and turns them into works of art. These descriptions show us the reality of the situation, as opposed to the Joads' ignorant hopefulness. The language Steinbeck uses is simple, but powerful. Explicitly indicating accent and using colloquial terms gives the story a strong air of authenticity, making the reader painfully aware that many real families experienced what the Joads are experiencing. It can be uncomfortable reading at times, but Steinbeck injects a lot of humour - ever blurring the line between comedy and tragedy - making Grapes of Wrath hugely entertaining. The characters are all likeable - even mad old Grandpa and tomcattin' Al - but shockingly naive. You often feel like shaking them! The two that really stand out are Tom...

Khant you kill Kirk

Advantages: Very good plot (for a change)
Disadvantages: May confuse if you haven't seen original episode

...Well I had a spate of writing in which I wrote loadsa ops on Star Trek; I thought I had covered them all so imagine my surprise when I found out that I missed out on one of the better movies in the series! After watching all of the movies so far, I feel that Star Trek II comes in third on my all time favorite Star Trek movies behind Insurrection and The Undiscovered country. Perhaps what made this movie a little better for me was that it was the continuation of an episode in the original series in which Captain Kirk fights and ‘imprisons’ Khan – well actually Kirk offers Khan the chance to colonize a planet; Khan just happens to have seemingly superhuman powers – he came from a ‘sleeper ship’ that contained a group of super humans that were genetically improved – they try to take over...

The best of the best

Advantages: Ground breaking special effects
Disadvantages: It had to end... I was gutted!

...Fleet, I cannot tell you how many times I have shouted at the screen ' just raise your shields NOW!!!' 6. We get to see GENESIS and it is great to see that we have the scientific know how to develop such a device, particularly when all we have seen of the future tech is a range of colourful screens and buttons - this can actually make a planet habitable! 7. This film employed amazing CGI work - It is rumoured that the Genesis explanation to six months to create. 8. We see the human side to Kirk, Bones and Spock...their friendship, that continues throughout the films is very strong here 9. Retina scans! 10. Khan and his crew are like eager young children on the starship Reliant...part of you just wishes they would run away with it though and go and have adventures! 11. The musical score is fantastic...you feel like you are on the open...

...century Earth, containing a group of genetically enhanced humans in cryogenic suspension.
