Living with a powercolor x1800 gto

Advantages: reasonably priced and quite powerful graphics card
Disadvantages: Is now a fairly old product line

...I bought my x1800gto about 9 months ago now and I have to say that when I first got it I was very impressed. There were plenty of cables for different monitors as well as 2 dongles to convert dvi to vga. There was no software included, but I wasn't particularly bothered about that as I have all the software and games I will ever need. So, down to business, the x1800 gto is a cheap card that delivers very good performance imho. Not one to buy if you want ridiculously high resolutions in your games, but a solid performer at 1280x1024 on all but the most demanding games. If you want an easy solution for crossfire then you should think about this as you don't need a crossfire master! Simply purchase two of these cards and drop them into a crossfire capable motherboard and off you go! Also, this is not too bad a card for overclocking, I...

x1800 awsome, but its too late

Advantages: awsome performance, awsome graphics
Disadvantages: direct x 9 whereas direct x 10 is now out on vista

...The card arrives, the box opens, a whole host of cables fall out, but you dont care about that and there on center stage the Radeon X1800 XT! When i played my first game with this card i was just amazed, the performace was awsome the graphics were awsome! games that used to look dull were now vibrant and brilliantly shaded. Being able to play games on full graphics was beautiful!! Now im not going to go through all the specs as you can find these easy enough on the connect3d website or even here on ciao. What i will say is a bit about my experience. When i bought this card it was a real kick in the pocket, but once i had it up and running it was a dream come true! With the vivo (video in video out) feature you can use it as a capture card. Make sure if you are going to buy this card that you have a spare slot below your pci...

It's No Car, It's Great Teacher Onizuka!

Advantages: twistedly funny look at the life of a former juvenile delinquent who decides to become a teacher
Disadvantages: he's not the only pervy character, so if you like squeaky clean, this ain't for you!

...a difference so they can get to be the big shot with a good university degree and a decent job, like he always wanted. This leads him to decide to become Japan's best teacher aka GTO -Great Teacher Onizuka. He decides he is going to teach kids about life, and make sure they get going on that right path. And those high school girls? Man, they are not worth the trouble. But, hey, some of these kids have hot mothers... First serialised in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 1997 to 2002, Great Teacher Onizuka is a manga running some 25 volumes, plus some prequels. Written and illustrated by mangaka Tohru Fujisawa, it is perhaps one of the best widely known manga aimed at an older audience, having not only been presented in manga form, but spawning a well received anime series as well as a live action film. In this first volume, we meet Eikichi, and despite...

X800 GTO, to get or not?

Advantages: Speed, 2 monitors, Vivo, PCI-e, Best bang for buck
Disadvantages: Runs hot, needs extra connector, loud when fan is on 100%, no SM3.0

...games stright off it will overheat. Unless you download a third party application to use with it (such as ATiTool) you can turn the fan up and off you go! The fan is fairly noisy when on hundred percent on the other hand you can set it to turn up as the card heats up. So, lastly, overclocking.... Many people will buy cards and items purely for overclocking. Me too. The first of my cards was moddable via BIOS to 16 pipelines!!! Also it along with 16 pipes did the same speed as an X850XT PE (a saving of £200). ONLY THE R423 and R480 cores are moddable like this. The newer one did not go to 16 pipes as it is R430 but it overclockes like hell, running it as I write this it is running very quickly! Some of the data I have (all in MHZ) all using stock cooling and voltages. R423 Modded to 16 pipes from 12 Core overclocked from 400 to 540...

MSI 7900GTO Review

Advantages: Very fast for the money
Disadvantages: none

...This graphics card is excellent value for money as it has the same core as the 7900GTX and better memory than the 7900GTX for less money. This allows this card to be overclocked to the 7900GTX spec for a fraction of the cost. Having said this, this card is actually fast enough to play almost all games with anti-aliasing at resolutions most people will be playing at (1280x1024 and below). The stock cooler does an excellent job as not only is it quiet but also cools the core and memory very efficiently keeping the card at around 55 degrees C under load and about 40 degrees C when idle. It also has the added bonus of venting the hot air out of the back of the case and keeps air moving through the case benefitting all other components also. The bundled software is a little weak but at this price point one cannot really complain...

Graphics Card Bargain Of The Year?

Advantages: An X850XT for the price of X800!
Disadvantages: Using it to the full may invalidate your warranty.

...graphics processor, running top end X850 speed memory, and, er, if the user should decide to "upgrade" the firmware, the same number of pipelines as the X850XT. Where's the catch? Well, there are several. First of all, it costs about £20 more than the standard GTO. Secondly, changing the firmware and opening up all 16 pipelines will probably invalidate your warranty. Oh, and it may not work. ATI ostensibly sold these chips cheap (cheap as chips?) because 1 or more pipelines may have tested faulty. Except that out of 10 or so cards I know of that have been upgraded, none have had faulty pipelines. You may want to play safe and not flash the firmware, but that would still leave you with a fast processor, and fast memory. The final catch is, that I suspect the supply of these cards won't last forever. But the new X1800 cards are stupidly...

bargain hunters look no further...

Advantages: Power, cost
Disadvantages: Pathetic fan

...I purchased a Connect 3D X800GTO PCI-E off the internet around 2 months ago for £100. Best £100 i have ever spent. The specs are as follows : 400MHz Core speed 490MHz Memory speed 256 Bit memory bus 256MB GDDR3 Memory 12 Pipelines PCI-E 16X I got this card expecting it to be good, but not great. I was wrong. There is no game available that i cannot play on maximum. I don't know why people bother going for £300 graphics cards when my £100 X800GTO does the job perfectley. The only flaw with the entire graphics card specs wise, is the fact it only has pixel shader 2.0 although this isn't a problem unless you want HDR in your games. As mentioned in the 'disadvantages' section, the fan is rather pitiful looking. I suppose it does the job and keeps the card at around 60 degrees when playing games and 35 degrees when idle. For those...

Review of Connect3D Radeon X800 GTO

Great card for a gamer on a budget!

Advantages: No trouble with latest games, cool and quiet
Disadvantages: Does not have DirectX10

...I bought this card about a month ago and since then I have had sufficient time to test it and see if my money was well spent, here is my short review of the Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO. The Radeon X1950 Pro was designed to replace ATI's older midrange card, the Radeon X1800 GTO. With a 580 MHz core clock speed and 512MB of GDDR3 RAM running at 1,4GHz, the Radeon X1950PRO boasts a faster core clock and memory speeds than the Radeon X1800 GTO. Like most midrange to high-end graphics cards, the Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO requires a link to your PC's power supply. Most PCs with a 300-to-400-watt power supply should be able to handle a single card, and ATI recommends at least a 550-watt power supply for CrossFire mode. The Sapphire Radeon X1950PRO's fan runs very quiet under stress and did not generate too much heat which was perfect...
