FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Some well deserved luxury!

Advantages: Feeling like a VIP
Disadvantages: Prices can be tough on ordinary people like me!

...The company I used to work for a few years ago used to have our yearly Christmas party at the Berkeley, so while I worked for them we had three Christmas parties at the same hotel. The reason for this is simply because their service was absolutely impeccable and every time was an amazing evening to remember? It also happens that every year we used to have a Christmas raffle, where people used to win gifts, and during my last party I actually won the first price which was a night at the Berkeley which was offered by the hotel itself! So, because of my various experiences with them, I will try to make this review as detailed as possible. While some people might find celebrating the Christmas party at the same venue slightly boring, we all actually thought of this as a beautiful event we could not wait to attend. While working...

All about Charlie and Xander

Advantages: Wonderful pets each with their own personality
Disadvantages: Expensive to house properly

...as with us, different cockatiels can have completely different personalities. I have two males and they couldn't be more different if they tried. Charlie is the grumpy one, he doesn't play much and much prefers lording it over the rest of us. He is interested in everything around him, and even says "hello" but everything has to be on his own terms. Now Xander is the opposite, he's extraordinarily playful and wants to be involved in everything I'm doing. ---Male or Female--- The grey cockatiel is fairly easy to sex once it's gone through it's first moult (between three and nine months), the males have bright orange cheeks and yellow heads, while with the females they are much duller. Females also have bars (horizontal stripes) on their tails. If you are only going to be keeping one cockatiel the only difference the sex will make is...

All about the xan man

Advantages: Great character, good episodes
Disadvantages: Pointless as a stand alone dvd

...Its been a while since I wote a Buffy review, I think I've had a few withdrawal symptons from not reviewing any Buffy episodes for a while! The latest in this line of purely pointless character profile dvds is for Xander, the 'heart' of Buffy and the 'one who sees everything'. He is considered, after Buffy, to be probably the most vital character to the show and the one that creator Joss Whedon says he personally identifies with most. As a character he is funny yes, but also sweet, brave and just wonderful. You can't not love Xander really. Where this dvd succeeds where similar ones failed is that it does actually provide a good picture of the character. His funniest comedy is here, but it also gives a good range of his episodes, shows his evolution as a character and includes some of his most pivotal moments. My only real...

Mummy can we see a castle...?

Advantages: Lovely castle, with many events for all
Disadvantages: No disable facilities

...As the mother of a young son who is fascinated by castles, I currently find myself being whisked all over the county visiting vast quantities of castles. Not that I mind as I happen to find castles interesting to visit myself. So I was pleased when the opportunity arose two kill two birds with one stone. In November, Berkeley Castle was hosting a charity Christmas gift and craft fair which gave me the opportunity to sell my Usborne books as well as allow my son the opportunity to roam around the castle. ***** History ***** Berkeley Castle was completed in 1153 by Lord Maurice de Berkeley at the command of King Henry II. The Berkeley family describe this castle as "one of the most remarkable buildings in Britain". It has some outstanding mediaeval architecture, and has survived from being modernized, so it stands as a Norman fortress...

Telegraph

Advantages: Books, clothes and music at bargain prices, and a fantastic atmosphere.
Disadvantages: You'll never want to leave.

...Berkeley probably deserves its own section but as few British holiday makers are likely to travel to California for its sake alone I’ll put it down as a day trip from San Francisco. For my money, though, Berkeley is a far better destination than it’s larger neighbour. It’s most famous for its University which dominates the centre of town. The campus is worth a look as you can climb the bell tower in the centre and get a fantastic view on a clear day. It also has the museum of Anthropology which is really interesting, even if it is rather dominated by American Indian artefacts. The campus has seen a lot of action in its time. The students here have always been famous for their activism, whether for civil rights, peace or just anything that they feel strongly about. My uncle clims that he once lived upstairs from Malcom X...

The Berkeley, Bristol - some flaws, but very cheap

Advantages: Cheap, decent atmosphere
Disadvantages: Low quality food, slow to clear tables, some seating not suitable for a restaurant

... Introduction I can't claim to have been to every JD Wetherspoons in the UK, or even that many (probably about 3 or 4), so this is only my personal experience of one of the JD Wetherspoons pub/restaurants - The Berkeley, in Bristol. There are a total of 9 JD Wetherspoons in Bristol, with 4 or 5 in the town centre. With 737 pubs in the UK, it shouldn't be hard to find one near you, although I'd advise reading some of the reviews on here first! The Menu Before I go on to talk about my experience, I'll detail the range of dishes and offers which Wetherspoons offers, so if you already know you can skip down! The menu covers both ends of the market, with both premium dishes and an entire value section. Meals start from £2.99, with meals such as "Ham, egg and chips" and "Spicy tomato pizza". There is another menu at £3...
