Very very good
Advantages: No dongles to loose or break, quality, speed
Disadvantages: Takes up both PCMCIA slots
...For some unkown reason, Compaq decided that they wouldn't put a network socket on my laptop - who is going to need to connect their laptop to a network eh? Obviously no one at Compaq, but for the rest of us we all do! Fortunatly my laptop has 2 PCMCIA slots that I hardly use so a PCMCIA network adapter would be ideal. The problem with these though are the fact that many of them have bits sticking out, or a dongle, or both. This would have been an absolute pain when lugging the laptop to and from Uni as I'd either loose the dongle, or break it, or the bit sticking out would get stuck everywhere and so on. Luckily I discovered the RealPort range of PCMCIA adapters from Xircom. The main advantage to these is that they have a full sized standard network socket on the adapter so there are no bits sticking out, no extra wires and so...

Reliable adapters, but not excellent...
Advantages: Reliable, lot of features
Disadvantages: Problems when installing on Win98 and WinMe
...Hello all,
This is an opinion about the Xircom Ethernet + 56K Modem Adapters. Why ?Adapters? and not ?Adapter?? Well, because there are in fact two of the same, even with the same specifications. And I?ll start with presenting you these specs:
1. Xircom® RealPort Ethernet 10+Modem 56 GlobalACCESS (REM56G-10)
- Integrated Type III PC Card connectors mean there's nothing to break, nothing to lose. But, in the same time, it will take the both slots in your laptop. Yes, you have everything on the card ? as network connection, modem connection and mobile connection (if you have the specific cables, of course), but keep in mind that a Type III Card take the both slots.
- Connect using a standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable in the office (this for Local Area Networks), you don?t need any additional dongle, just plug the network...

Networking solutions for laptops
Advantages: compact, relatively cheap
Disadvantages: takes up 2 PCMCIA slots
...Back in the days when laptops were not built with on board network ports, PCMCIA was the only way to add a laptop to a conventional ethernet network. I bought my xircom card from a computer fair for just £20, back when they were a rareity. I got home and hooked it up, only to find although it advertises only using one PCMCIA slot, it actually takes up the room of two on most laptops. However, this prevents needing a short jumper wire from the card, the network cable just goes straight into the end of the card. A great feature is the two status lights on the top of the card which can be seen when the card is in use. One for connectivity, and another for traffic. This is especially useful if you are having troubles with your network. Th drivers for the card come included with windows 2000, however i had to download them for windows...

For the pub cred road warrior
Advantages: Small
Disadvantages: Limited
...read the 'Franklin' embossing under the new Xircom label, something that will undoubtedly change once existing stocks are supplemented with a new production run. The original version had 64KB (yes, that's KB, not MB) of memory and no facilities for editing anything; you simply downloaded your data from a PC, and used the Rex to read that data while on the move.
The Xircom Rex Pro is a little more clever, though; it has 512KB of memory, for a start, which will hold 6,000 contacts. It also has a 'modify' button, with which users can alter entries, add new text and so on, and all amendments are synchronised when the Rex is connected to a PC. This connection process is effected in one of two ways. The user can either plug the Rex Pro into a notebook's PC Card slot, or use the supplied, battery-powered docking station to connect it to the serial...

Do not buy a LaCie disk ever!
Advantages: idea
Disadvantages: performance
...I completely agree with the previous review, and there's nothing much to say for this item. It sucks!! I wasted my company money and their confidence on me with this little piece of crap.
So, how did I end buying this?
On a Tom's Hardware review I saw this item, which has the ability of being an ethernet disk and an USB disk at the same time, which at the moment, was an innovation.
With such a configuration the disk can be accesible to ethernet users even at [theoric] gigabit speeds and at the same time being accessed by a local user through USB connection. This was the perfect solution for us, since my mates needed an ethernet disk always available and I needed a hi-speed access to it due to the huge amount of files I manage, both in number and size.
I downloaded the specs and even talked to Lacie before purchasing, so I was...

Networking made easy with Belkin
Advantages: Quick and easy to install | portable | works
Disadvantages: More expensive than internal card | lead could do with being a bit longer
...When I bought my newest computer, I decided to set up a mini network using the new computer as a host and then linking the old one via a crossover cable, which connected the two through their network cards. It was then that I realised that I only had one Ethernet port on the computer, which was already taken up by my cable modem. I was therefore faced with a choice, I could either buy a network card that would need to be fitted into my computer, or I could buy a USB to Ethernet adapter. Well seeing as I really didn?t want to open up my brand new computer, I decided on the adapter, which wasn?t really all that much more expensive.
---What you get---
The adapter comes supplied with an installation CD and instruction booklet, all securely packaged in an slightly oversized box. As this is powered by the USB port there are no power...

Fancy 25Mbps+ Broadband.. One Day you'll get it.
Advantages: Good Realiability and Future Proof.
Disadvantages: People Mis-understanding the Product.
...This review is to put the right all the wrong reviews that I have read across the internet as it seems the main problem that people have had with this product is that they don't understand how to use it.
Anyway, the review. The reason why I bought this modem was because I was looking for an Ethernet Modem and wanted something that would last me a long time, the ADSL2MUE fits the bill perfectly and has some extra features, although I probably won't be using these.
Ethernet Modems are quite hard to find in the UK, but they are far superior to USB Modems in all areas, it is because USB Modems are cheaper than Ethernet that ISPs supply them with their broadband packages. The Advantages over USB is that you don't require any drivers, so that means that less system resources are used up controlling the device and also that it will work...

Bi-Bi, Wi-Fi, It's Been Annoying To Know Ya
Advantages: Consistent internet and network sharing without ripping the house apart
Disadvantages: Yet another mains socket needed
...-fi-totin? laptop, thinking that your internet sharing problems are over but they?re not.
There are other ways of distributing data around your house, one of which involves installing a ?real? Ethernet system, cables ?n? all. Anyone responsible for making good the holes in walls and the subsequent damage to wallpaper afterwards will see this as a definite ?NO?.
However, you DO have a cabling system already installed, so why not use it? It?s called ?the mains?, primarily intended to distribute 240v AC all around your property.
It doesn?t take a genius to see that using it for something else too will need some fancy circuitry to isolate it from the nasty buzzy killy bits.
Put simply, the Solwise adapters turn your network signals into ?radio waves? to be carried over your wiring way out of reach of the 240 volts AC ? at the other end, they...

Very fast, very impressed.
Advantages: Fast transfer rate, reliable
Disadvantages: Can't think of any.
...The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Adapter came built in to my pc, and I wouldn't want to replace it.
It provides a fast, reliable connection. Was easy to connect to and set up a connection with other pc's, laptop's, etc.
Great for gamers or business' that require wired link up between machines, servers or both. Felt like the data transfer was instant, so was perfect for backing up data from one machine onto another
Driver's are very easy to get hold of, just download them straight from the manufacturers website. Which also has very good support, if any problems should arise.
Very fast if needing updating due to new driver releases.
I would highly recommend this ethenet adapter to anyone. Especially gamers or small businesses....

Simple, easy and non technical
Advantages: Very easy to use
Disadvantages: None really
...This device must be the simplest I have ever bought. You plug in the devices to a mains wall socket, attach them to your pc with the supplied leads, and that's it. If your not technically minded this is the device for you.
This starter kit is enough to connect two pc's to share your broadband connection. You can also set up a network to share files and have access to other computers if you want.
The starter kit consists of two devolo plugs and two ethernet cables. You can also buy a USB version but ethernet is generally better.
To start with you plug one device into a socket close to your modem/router and attach it with one ethernet cable. You then plug the other device into a socket near your second pc and again connect it via the other ethernet cable. You will immediately be able to share the broadband connection There is no...
