Advantages: No dongles to loose or break, quality, speed
Disadvantages: Takes up both PCMCIA slots

...on - its like there was a normal socket there. They only problem is that it will take up both slots to make space for the full sized socket. The card its self is of a very high quality. It supports all sorts of special features like SNMP network management, BatterySave (tm) for increased battery life, and of course full 10/100mbps speeds (because this card uses the CardBus feature of the more recent laptops you really can get 100mbps, just make sure your laptop can support it). Another neat feature is the network status lights are integrated into the socket - when they are on it illuminated the actual plug so you know what is going on. Even just the feel of it in your hands suggest quality - its very solid and well put together unlike some PCMCIA cards I have seen. Advantages: Clarity, detail, a movie experience at home, people's mouths fall open.
Disadvantages: Any weakness in TV signal will be quickly apparent because of size.

Networking solutions for laptops

...Back in the days when laptops were not built with on board network ports, PCMCIA was the only way to add a laptop to a conventional ethernet network. I bought my xircom card from a computer fair for just £20, back when they were a rareity. I got home and hooked it up, only to find although it advertises only using one PCMCIA slot, it actually takes up the room of two on most laptops. However, this prevents needing a short jumper wire from the card, the network cable just goes straight into the end of the card. A great feature is the two status lights on the top of the card which can be seen when the card is in use. One for connectivity, and another for traffic. This is especially useful if you are having troubles with your network. Th drivers for the card come included with windows 2000, however i had to download them for windows...

Excellent 56K External Modem

...Having stuck with my 33.6K modem for far too long, I decided it was time to take the plunge and buy me a decent external 56k one. After browsing through a number of e-tailers stocks of modems, I cam accross the Creative Modem Blaster 56K which was extremely well priced. For around £50, you get a well built, quick 56k modem that does everything the box says it should. Installation was a breeze, connect to your serial port, insert CD-ROM, done. Since then, I can honestly say I've not had one problem with it, connections are fast and reliable and that's as much as anyone can ask from a modem. The unit is also flash upgradeable, so once the new V.92 standard is agreed, upgrading and getting a further speed boost should be no problem. If I had to point out a failing, it would be Creative's support with regard to this product...

...This modem was the second I bought just after unmetered ISP's first went hot and I got my registration disk for ntlworld (sorry to anyone who hasnt got theirs yet). Until this time I refused to get an ISP from home because I knew that I would be on for an average of 12 hours a day and simply could not afford that. The first modem I bought was a cheap "hayes compatible" 56K flex external from the local shop which I had numerous problems with and took back 24 hours after purchase. At this point I actually decided to find out which modems were considered as good and discovered that Diamond have a very good reputation and are not that expensive. I nipped out again to a different retailer and bought the "Diamond SupraExpress 56e PRO". When I got it home I plugged it on the machine and it went off like a charm connected perfectly...

Personally I like it, and I will explain why, but I'm disappointed in those who appear to dislike it simply because it doesn't fit with their expectations. Good music is good music, and will always be good music regardless of whether those creating it used to do something slightly different or not.
