Review of Sony VAIO SZ Series VGN-SZ2XP/C

Shuttle proves that form doesn't kill function.

Advantages: Form, function, auesthetic appeal. Beauty.
Disadvantages: Can't be expanded greatly, can get hot.

...It's a funny thing, beauty. It's even funnier to find beauty and technology intermingled - especially in the PC market. Sure, we've got the 'l33t' gamer's tarted up beige box, complete with dragon motifs and nauseating blue lights. But where's the style? When people think style and computers, they think Apple. I'd urge these people to think again. When I carefully teased my Shuttle XPC SB83G5M from it's box, unwrapped it and set it on my desk, I knew I'd found a winner. Like I said, it's a funny thing when you finally find something that isn't just good, but by far away outstanding. Shuttle XPCs are the way forward

Advantages: Compact, powerful, fairly quiet, stylish
Disadvantages: Quality Control needs improving

..., the unit is pre-fitted with a 6-in-1 card reader for transferring those digital photos/movies straight from the card, and you get 2 years on-site warranty -- amazing considering most electronics companies are loath to give you even a 1 year Return-to-Base type! My point is that this particular XPC (and most other mini-cube PCs) comes with so many useful and useable features as standard that there is virtually no need to have additional space for expanding. In the past, and even with some of the modern mainstream PCs, you'd normally have to go out and buy an "add-on this" and an "add-on that" to make it a more complete system. In fact, despite all the above mentioned gadgets, there is still a spare PCI slot to hand should you need it.
