Dells Flagship - The XPS M1710
Review of Dell Inspiron XPS M1710 by
allangallop
Advantages: More power than your Lap needs, Front Media control, Mood lighting
Disadvantages: Very heavy, poor battery life, gets very warm
...If you always mobile like me and need the processing power of a desktop on your legs than the XPS is for you!!
To me the XPS is more light a mobile cinema than a laptop. It features a very high quality crystal clear display, front media control, high quality audio speakers and 16 colour lights, yes that right! the XPS has multi-coloured lights emitting from the front, side and back of the unit, just to set the mood.
Unfortuently having lighting fast components , large storage capacity and high quality audio and video does add up a fair bit of weight and heat. And of course the battery doesn't last long. Apart from these shortfalls the XPS is an exellent example of high-powered portable computing.
Remember Its a DELL! So expect exellent support. As with all Dell products the XPS is customisable so you can upgrade components to your...

Amazing Dell XPS M1710
Review of Dell XPS M1710 Core 2 Duo by
Willylad2K8
Advantages: 17" monitor, 5 in 1 memory card reader, WIFI
Disadvantages: Heavy and big
...Ive had the Dell xps m1710 ever since christmas and so far there ive liked it but there are disadvantages and are are advantages of the Dell XPS m1710. When i first got my laptop i got it with no Bluetooth and there was only a 2GB ram, Now i bought a Bluetooth moudle from the dell website for around £50 and i bought a 4GB ram of the dell website too. I have on my dell like any other new computers/laptops, Windows Vista mine is Windows Vista Ultimate which i think is very fast.
The Advantages are...
The screen is a 17" LCD monitor which is very good for watching movies and TV shows
There is 7 music buttons on the front of the laptop which is very handy when you have your computer half closed and you dont want to flip it up and goto your media player to change the song or stop, play and pause or mute or just turn it up or down...

A year on...
Review of Dell Inspiron XPS M1710 by
mastershopper
Advantages: It's a fast and powerful gaming laptop
Disadvantages: It is HEAVY and very expensive!
...Okay, I've owned mine for nearly a year. So, has it lost it's shine?
Not in my book! My last laptop was an entry level and struggled with any sort of game. I looked around for something a little more substantial and noticed the XPS. It was just about to be released and I like new toys. The best bit about buying from Dell is the fact you can customise just about everything. I upgraded the processor speed (2 x 2.16Ghz in a laptop!) and got a gig of RAM. It came as standard with 100Gb hard drive and a nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS video card.
My only gripe was that it comes preloaded with loads of trial software, but that's easily removed. I actually used the McAfee 90 day trial suite. Hey, three months free? Nice.
Onto performance, this is a monster of a machine. The screen is huge and yes, the pretty side lights do add to the cool factor...

Heavyweight Champion of the World!
Review of Dell XPS M1710 Core 2 Duo by
walkinginperu
Advantages: very powerful, huge graphics capability, robust
Disadvantages: HEAVY!, keyboard could have been bigger
...:
This laptop has a fantastic set of speakers for a portable machine, and it even has a built-in subwoofer for good bass sound. Very little distortion occurs, even at very high volumes which is impressive for a notebook PC.
There are a load of LED lights on the fan vents, the mousepad, the speaker covers and the outer case which can be made to change colour and flash in a huge variety of ways, even in time with Windows Media Player or iTunes, which is cool. The overall look of the XPS is very funky, with a machined aluminium cover that can be replaced with a variety of different colours.
A Tool for any Job:
The M1710 is covered in USB ports (2 on the left hand side and 4 on the back) making it easy to plug in a whole range of accessories. Laptops I've had in the past have always been lacking in this respect, so I was impressed when I looked...

m1710 comprehensive review
Review of Dell XPS M1710 Core 2 Duo by
lemonandlimeuk
Advantages: exremely powerful, amazingly eye cathing design, sturdy
Disadvantages: fairly expensive, heavy
...optional bluetooth
Ports
There are loads.
6x USB 2
1x 1394 firewire
1x DVI
1X analogue
5 in 1 card reader
smart card
network
wired interne
headphone
microphone
express card
(no pcmcia which is annoying seeing as most card are this format)
TV out
Design
Firstly the design; the xps m1710 certainly looks the part, its siver shell is made from a magnesium alloy that feels strong and durable (the only part that isnt is just above the keyboard but his area is not load bearing), unlike many laptops the lid does not flex when the screen is opened, the silver look i personally like, its different
The back screen cover of this machine features a back (or red) panel with the 'dell' logo in the middle which again is strong.
The touch pad is nice, and matted so easy to move the cursor on, it features scrolling zones for left/right and up...

good first system
Review of Dell Dimension XPS T500 by
keithmydog
Advantages: Good help and support
Disadvantages: not the cheapest
...My first system was an xps500t. This was nearly 12 months ago and was chosen because of the support and warranty offered. Being fairly inexperienced I have found both the telephone support and web based support to be very helpfull. I have had no problems except self inflicted software related problems and would highly recommend buying a dell. With any problems I have had I have always been able to get excellent advise from the Dell web talk forum where everyone seems more than willing to help. Now I have had the opportunity of using other systems and discussing various problems others have had I know I made the correct choice with my first system and would not hesitate to purchase from Dell again....

Good for Professional Photographer
Review of Dell Laptop Inspiron XPS M170 by
catshark88
Advantages: Picture quality, screen size
Disadvantages: Have to order from Dell
...with one colour coats and the XPS shows up every tone in the coat and the underlying musculature.
The processor is very quick and memory cards download in a flash. The spec is Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB). With memory like that, I can store thousands of images without slowing down performance.
I do not use the XPS for games but I would imagine that they would look amazing on it. The screen size is vast but as it is not too reflective, you would feel really close to the action. There is good sound too but I have only used it for Radio 4....
The XPS comes with Windows XP as standard. I did not set it up but there was not too much swearing from the husband so it must have been fairly straightforward to do!
Given its price, I would say that the XPS is a laptop to choose if you are really going to take advantage...

Dell XPS R400
Review of Dell Dimension XPS - P4 540 3.2 GHz by
bigdoug
Advantages: Great build, value and support
Disadvantages: Obsolesence as with all PCs
...I purchased this my first PC from DELL online in April 1998. The Dell Dimension XPS R400 had just been released and this was first purchase online at around £2000.
I was able to order slight changes to the base specification without being penalised for having a bespoke PC system rather than a mass prepared one. The order fullfilment was easliy tracked online. I could tell at what stage the PC delivery was, Construction, Testing, Awaiting Dispatch and finally delivery.
I upgraded the 3 year service with the first year onsite to 3 years onsite for the measily sum of £75, which would not even subscribe you to a PC magazine for the same period. I had problems with Windows 95 as I was new to the operating system, the telephone support offered was patient, expert without falling between these two stools.
Later, I had a problem...

good stuff
Review of Dell Dimension XPS T450 by
computershopper
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Fairly Slow
...I got my Dell a couple of years ago when it was a top of the range PC. The Dimension XPS R450 is a hard working machine with a great spec for a commercial machine. Unlike many companies, Dell do not bundle your PC with tons of stupid peripherals that are poor quality or useless. My Dimension XPS 450 came with a Epson Stylus 640 printer, and no Webcam or rubbish scanner which wouldn't have got used anyway.
This system has 128MB RAM which is all you rewally need at the moment and although it only has a P2 450 processor it is more than fast enough to run any programs available at the moment. The 12.8 Gb Hard Disk has tons of space for the average home user and it comes with a Zip Drive to back up your work anyway.
This system comes with a Toshiba DVD ROM which is great for entertainment. The only problem is that the speakers...
