Anyway today we decided to go and see the Royal Yacht Britannia which is currently moored in the waters of the Firth of Forth at Leith in Edinburgh. My Stay at the Stenungsbaden Yacht Club, Stenungsund, Sweden.

Advantages: Quality accomodation and food
Disadvantages: A la carte food is expensive

...I stayed in the Stenungsbaden yacht club while on business in Stenungsund in the Autumn of 2008. Rooms are available for around 1000 SEK per night. The hotel is located 45km from Gothenburg and gives excellent access to the North of Sweden and Norway ( from Gothenburg, you follow the road signs for Oslo). Stenungsbaden is located on the outskirts of Stenungsund, and is a 20 minute walk from the Bus and Train station in Stenungsund centre. The view from the hotel, more importantly the marina is spectacular. The hotel backs onto a dense forest, which runs from the hotel to the Tjornbron Bridge. The Tjornbron Lookout, which you'll reach after crossing the Bridge also offers a spectacular panorama. All aboard for DIsney's Yacht Club!

Advantages: Beautiful resort hotel, great facilities!
Disadvantages: Not easy on the pocket!

...DISNEY'S YACHT CLUB The Yacht Club at Walt Disney World has to be my favourite hotel in all of the world (Disney World that it!) and as many Ciao-ers will know I have stayed in and reviewed a LOT of Disney Hotels! I love this hotel because the service is impeccable down to the staff who open and close the doors for you when you enter and exit the hotel. The staff are also dressed in a clean nautical theme and lobby is expertly themed with low ceilings, benches and port holes! Check-in is always fast and efficient and the concierge is knowledgeable and able to secure most dining and other activities that guests require. IF YOU REALLY MUST SEE A ROYAL BEDROOM

Advantages: Educational. Slightly Magical. A Great Visitor Attraction. Disabled Access Throughout.
Disadvantages: Situation and Surroundings. Some Material Decay Now Taking Place.

...Once again this is a review written following the benefit of a second - rather different visit to this particular Scottish tourist attraction. I first visited the Royal Yacht Britannia on my own in 1999, the first year that it was open to the public having been "forcibly" retired to Leith Docks in Edinburgh. I am not going to go too deeply into the politics behind the decision to put the Britannia on display in the Scottish capital, save to say that it seemed an odd one when the rest of the historic ships are either based in Portsmouth or Chatham. With absolutely no disrespect to Edinburgh at all, it was always my opinion that the Britannia should have retired in her home port - Portsmouth, where all the required facilities are on hand to look after her in a ready made historical naval setting.
