Yamaha Grizzly 125
Advantages: easy to operate, good second hand value
Disadvantages: key in wrong position
...Yamaha Grizzly 125 ATV.
Firstly a bit of history to show how opinions are formed. We operate a company in Scotland offering Quad Bike Treks for anybody over the age of sixteen, in other words the bikes are used a lot and by anybody from beginners to more experienced riders. Whatever bikes we use have to be mechanically reliable and be able to withstand some abuse. Up until the beginning of this year we used the Breeze model, mostly because its small and light, not too small but still light enough that one person can lift the bike ? pretty useful when you are on your own with a bogged down bike! Another reason for the choice being they are Semi-Automatic put it in forward gear push throttle and it goes, no gear changes to worry about.
Anyway back to the review if you are thinking about buying a quad, you can?t go far wrong...

Yamaha SR125
Advantages: Comforable, light on fuel, easy to repair
Disadvantages: Sluggish on cornering
...The Yamaha SR125 is a small, custom-style bike. Being 5'3", it was a good choice for my first bike. It's reliable and easy to ride. Over the 5 years that I owned one, all I needed to do was give it an annual service, apart from topping up the oil and replacing the headlight bulb.
The bulb needed replacing, on average, about once a year. It uses the same 12v type as a scooter so there was no lack of supply. ( Scooter shops seemed to offer it cheaper than dedicated motorbike shops). The other cosmetic items that occaisionally needed replacing were the clutch and brake handles. Also pretty inexpensive, about £12, depending on where you buy from.
The rear brake is a drum brake which is quite old-fashioned now, but easy enough to work with. The petrol consumption is very good. I rode from South London (Waterloo) to North London...

Owning a Yamaha TZR 125
Advantages: A quick reliable bike, can be ridded on L-Plates
Disadvantages: A bit unrefined at lows revs (two stroke misfire)
...I use my '89 Yam TZR 125 every day as a means of getting to work. It has done 35,000 miles, 7000 of which have been done by myself. It is fully de-restricted (servo power valve connected) and can top 100mph on a good day It has needed very little work apart from a new clutch, chain and sprockets (General Wear and Tear). They are easy to maintain and while yamaha genuine parts are quite pricey, you are guaranteed good quality and robustness when you buy them, in my opinion you HAVE to use the genuine parts, don't trust pattern products as they are always of lesser quality.
It is in the same class as a Cagiva Mito, Aprilia RS125, Honda NSR125R and a Suzuki RG125. It out performs the latter japanese bikes but lags behind the italian models. However the italian bikes suffer from reliability problems, parts availability troubles...

YBR-125, Would reccomend to anyone! Good Quality money-saver
Advantages: Runs on fresh air! An all round bargain!
Disadvantages: Speed isn't great, but only as expected from a 125cc
...I bought my YBR 125 from new in October 2008, downgrading from a fuel guzzling car for a more economical option. Woah! What an economical option! the tank is a 2 gallon which costs about £8-9 to fill from empty at present. The tank will last between 190-200 miles!! (80-100mpg!). You would expect there must be some downsides to this small cheap bike. Well there aren't really any. Speed? Well, yes, this is not a bike built for motorway use, however will comfortably sit at 60mph all day. I have managed 75 however this was downhill with a strong wind behind me! Common sense tells you that if you want to go fast don't buy a 125! Another downside is personal preferance really, but I do a lot of night riding and the full beam isn't all that full! Could do with being brighter as standard! gearbox is sweet as a nut, along with the rest...

Ybr 125
Advantages: Feul
Disadvantages: bendy handle bars and stand
...I have now had the ybr 125 for 2-3 yrs and it is by all means a great bike. Im 6ft 2 and it feels comfy not too small for me. As for the feul wow never have i known a bike thats run for so long on a full tank and downhill with the wind behind you you can reach 70mph although never have i done this as its not legal (mmmmm). Someone mentioned before it can take a wack as they went through a fence and it was fine, but let me tel yu this is not entirly true. I lost my back end on oil at about 15mph (as you do) and the handle bars bent real badly and cost quiete a bit to replace, my bike is actually on its 3rd set of handle bars to as it was kicked over by the youth of today and again the bars bent to the point of unstraightening and had to be replaced. Also i am now after 2 and a half yrs have alot of trouble with starting the bike on random...

TDR125 - the fun bike
Advantages: lots of fun to ride, great handling, funky looks
Disadvantages: slow, requires lots of modifications to get the best performance (but it's worth it!)
...I'll be honest here, I bought this bike on its looks alone. I saw it in the dealers and it made me smile. There's just no other bike that has the TDR's looks!
The TDR shares many components with Yamaha's other 2 stroke 125's: the DT dirtbike and the TZR race replica. The engine and gearing are exactly the same as the DT - a watercooled 2 stroke with crankcase reed valve induction. The TDR accelerates quickly like a dirt bike but doesn't have a very high top end. The frame is the super stiff steel deltabox variety and this combined with the suspension and wheels makes for great handling. The frame is so stiff it could easily handle an engine kicking out 2 or 3 times the power of the TDR's. The seat is high up off the ground, again similar to the DT. The wheels sizes are 18" front and 17" rear. If you are under 5"7 you might want to...

A Better 125 than Honda's CG
Advantages: On the Road price, Fuel Economy, UK Learner Legal, Practical Size
Disadvantages: Choke is on the engine, not the bars - Wont keep battery charged
...I've had this bike for five months, and have to tell people about it. This is a great 125. I set out to buy a new Honda CG125, but was won by the better styling, better equipment, and lower OTR price of Yamaha's YBR 125. I haven't regretted it. This is a great little 125. And it looks good! I think it's really important to be able to like your bike, and the styling of this one makes it easy to like! On top of that, it's a nice ride. There is NO vibration. Once the engine is broken in, everything is smooth and quiet. (The clocks include a rev counter, which is handy when riding the engine in, and getting to know it. The enging is air cooled, and prone to overheat during the breaking in period. After that, it stays cooler. There is no engine temperature gauge, but if you ride through a puddle and a cloud of steam puffs up at you, you know...

Dragstar 125 the bike with street cred and safety
Advantages: Well balanced power to weight ratio
Disadvantages: Some of the pannels are chrome plated plastic
...Having been a biker on and off for over thirty years I went with my son (19 years) to find a replacement for his sick Yamaha 125 custom.
Getting lost looking for a motorcycle dealer who had moved, we were looking for directions and were attracted by the sight of a lovely, what we thought to be Harley Davidson Fat Boy. parked outside a security lodge. This bike turned out to be the Yamaha 125 Dragstar and my son was in love for the first time.
The bike looks fantastic and has bags of power and a lovely deep note to the engine. None of the whiny noises of the other 125cc bikes on the market due to the v twin configuration of the engine.
From my point of view being the concerned parent with some experence of the biking world,
I was pleased to see a machine with the weight to resist the onslaught of a crosswind and the power to deliver...

A fantastic bike!
Advantages: Comfort, easy handling, charisma.
Disadvantages: thin wheels, low power on hills
...I currently ride a Yamaha YBR125 and I can assure you that they are brilliant. Particularly if you are new on the road. As the CBT licence allows the rider to ride anything up to a 125 motorbike this fits nicely into the "1st Motorbike" category.
Like all 125's she has the tendency to struggle up hills, steep hills are a guarantee to be completed in at most 3rd gear, not exceeding much more than 30 mph. I can honestly say this is the only criticism I have about it.
It's also good as a first bike due to the controlling of it. There is very little to fuss about, particularly as all modern bikes now have automatic lights that only switch between main beam and dipped. The indicators are in useful positioning , that are easily accessible and simple enough to switch off with no major distraction from the road.
The lights themselves...

The Yamaha Blaster - The small contender
Advantages: Lightweight, powerful 200cc two-stroke motor, proven over time
Disadvantages: Wheel base and width cause instability in some situations.
...The Yamaha Blaster is a legend in its own right. It has been in production for many a year now and has sold in large numbers worldwide. Its success has mainly been down to the large spread of potential buyers that it caters for. Although its main target is the rookie rider, it has sufficient power to thrill most users while providing good value for money and great reliability.
I have had my Blaster now for 7 years and had very few mechanical issues with her. Of course i have had to change tyres and top up fuel and oil levels when needed. I do as a matter of good maintenance, keep the chain and other moving parts oiled and greased, but this level of maintenance is expected on all such machines. I have recently rebuilt the top-end of my blaster engine and was very pleased to see that the condition of most of the internal waer parts was...
