Yamaha Student trumpets

Advantages: Good quality and always reliably in tune.
Disadvantages: Cost a bit more than similar student trumpets.

...Yamaha have been making musical instruments for over one hundred years and I have always found their brass instruments to be reliably in tune, which is not always the case with other student trumpets. Since about 1980, they have always had a student instrument priced between £250 and £300. The 2320 model was originally the only one in this price range. It is a well made instrument with quite good valves, and hard wearing gold colour lacquer finish. It has a mobile third valve slide for fine-tuning the low D and C#. As prices of instruments were rising, and the 2320 went over the £300 mark, they introduced a cheaper trumpet into the UK. The first of these was the T100S This is a silver plated trumpet, with a smaller bore than the 2320, making it suitable for younger players. The valves are reasonable, so long as they are...

Review of Yamaha Trumpets

My first Trumpet... aaahhh.

Advantages: very cheap and good for beginners
Disadvantages: basic and not for the professional

...As you may have guessed from the title, my first trumpet was a YAMAHA which I bought some years ago now for a bargain price of £250. I think that the model I bought was the one below this one, but they are still very similar and fundamentally the same. This model comes with three valves... there's a surprise, and mobile 1st and 3rd valve slides. It is available in gold laquer as well as silver plating, but the silver plating will cost a little extra. These more basic models are easier to take care of and last longer as they are less fragile. The threaded guide on the 3rd valve slide on a vincent bach is REALLY annoying if it gets even slightly bent. The YAMAHA has a more simple mechanism consisting of a screw which catches on the rim at the end of the tubing to stop it coming all the way off. I have had absolutey no...

Review of Yamaha YTR2335 Standard Bb Trumpet

Good beginners trumpet

Advantages: Well made, good sound, good case
Disadvantages: Some valves dodgy

...This trumpet is one I usually recommend for beginners. As with all Yamahas it is well made and produces a reasonably responsive sound. The trumpet looks good and the laquer does not wear off quickly as with some cheaper makes of trumpet. The valves are usually all right though I have had problems with some more recently bought instruments. The case provided is excellent being quite compact but having a useful sub compartment in which to carry music. The price is reasonable if bought mail order. It is certainly better value than some cheaper models which don't sound so good or last so long. It should also be easy to resell...

Trumpet - Jackie Kay

Advantages: Original ideas, doesn't take too long to read
Disadvantages: Quite dark in terms of tone and mood

...This is the first piece of work I have read which has been written by Jackie Kay, and i found that the plot and ideas in 'Trumpet' were so original that I would have no idea what to expect if i were to pick up another novel or poem of hers - I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.. Firstly, a main summary of the novel itself . The plot is based on a famous saxophone player named Joss Moody, who has recently passed away, much to the grief of his wife and son. There is a major twist, though - Joss is not the person everyone thought he was. He was hiding a major secret about himself from the rest of the world (one which I won't reveal in my review). The novel deals with the aftermath of his death - the first part is narrated by his wife, who is trying to deal with home life. Her part in the novel covers flashbacks to when she...

Yamaha YAS-23 (superceded by 25, then 275)

Advantages: Well made and durable. Good for beginners - easy to play with good intonation
Disadvantages: Factory made, so lacks the individual tone of those hand made saxes (eg selmers), and the tone is obviously not as rich as professional models

...This sax is a well built japanese sax, made by yamaha. It is a fairly cheap instrument, aimed at beginners, and this is exactly who it is good for. This sax is easily to play, with little resistance, and works well with the yamaha mouthpiece it is supplied with (4C). This sax has a reasonable tone, but it is obviously not as good as the tone of the more expensive professional models. The YAS-23 is no longer made, and was superceded first by the YAS-25, and then this was replaced with the YAS-275. My favourite of the three is the 25, because I find this has the nicest tone, and i also find the keywork design is best on this, although the 275 does have improved intonation. The YAS-25 was my first sax, which I borrowed from my school and played all the way up to grade 7 before finally buying myself a selmer (serie II), and is...

The Yamaha Blaster - The small contender

Advantages: Lightweight, powerful 200cc two-stroke motor, proven over time
Disadvantages: Wheel base and width cause instability in some situations.

...The Yamaha Blaster is a legend in its own right. It has been in production for many a year now and has sold in large numbers worldwide. Its success has mainly been down to the large spread of potential buyers that it caters for. Although its main target is the rookie rider, it has sufficient power to thrill most users while providing good value for money and great reliability. I have had my Blaster now for 7 years and had very few mechanical issues with her. Of course i have had to change tyres and top up fuel and oil levels when needed. I do as a matter of good maintenance, keep the chain and other moving parts oiled and greased, but this level of maintenance is expected on all such machines. I have recently rebuilt the top-end of my blaster engine and was very pleased to see that the condition of most of the internal waer parts was...

You can not blow this trumpet

Advantages: pretty
Disadvantages: can be invasive

...Trumpet vine, Campsis radicans (Bignoniaceae) .I do not have a trumpet vine growing in my garden, but I know someone who does. My friend has a yellow flowered trumpet vine growing vigorously up an archway. This is in full sun. The vine will also grow along the ground where there is no support and makes a good ground cover. This vine looks magnificent in a green house too This flower comes in a few different colours ranging from yellow through orange to red. The roots like a fertile, moist soil that drains well. The plant will shoot upwards and grow green leaves. The leaves are what are termed as pinnate this means feather like with one leaf having lots of smaller leaflets which grow opposite each other. The group of leaflets are 10 -30 cm long. The Aerial roots grow from the stems of this vine. The Arial roots help this vine...

Roaring off on my Yamaha

Advantages: The Yamaha brand name
Disadvantages: Low on looks, high on practicality

...Yamaha are well known for motorbikes and keyboards, but over the last 20 years they have built up a fantastic reputation for building guitars of the very highest quality, and at prices usually well below the more illustrious names in the business such as Gibson, Fender and PRS. They also have the advantage that they are readily available from most music shops, so you don't have to go searching for them. I bought my Yamaha Pacifica 112 a couple of years ago from eBay, and paid the princely sum of £40 for it. Initially I bought it because I wanted a guitar I could put in the back of the car and use for practice whilst staying in hotels. What surprised me most of all was the staggeringly good build quality for such an inexpensive guitar (the RRP is still below £200). These things really are built to last, and play far better than almost...
