R6 - Haven't stopped laughing yet...updated Jan 09 & April 09
Advantages: Fast, furious, handles great, accelerates great, stops brilliantly, looks wicked. Cheap insurance
Disadvantages: Ugly end can. That's it.
...'ve decided to stick with my 01 bike for another year. R6! They're brilliant!
Still laughing after all these years!
April 09 UPDATE:
Okay, Okay, I know I said I was sticking with it for another year, but that was before I saw the 09 model in Black & Gold. It really is a very sexy looking machine!
I emailed almost 150 dealers around the country asking for their best deals on a new bike and eventually settled on Petite & France up in Redcar. They offered me the bike I wanted, £800 below RRP, brand new, with PDI, Reg, 12 months tax, 24 months warranty, 12 months RAC cover, free delivery and 1500 quid part ex for my bike. It works out around £250 a month for 2 years on the Yamaha 0% finance deal.
Bargain! It arrives the day after I get home from sea in May so I'll be writing a new review on the latest model R6 once I've ridden it for a while...

Damn awesome 2000 Yamaha YZF-R6
Advantages: Its light, it goes, it stops, it looks great and it scores an A+ in all these categories!!
Disadvantages: Its total race position, so if you want to do a lot of miles, you're gonna get wrist ache, and they dont like to go slow either!!
...My first encounter with the Yamaha was back in 2001, when i took one out for a test ride from our local shop. It was V registered, red and awesomely fast. Unfortunately it was also £6000, so i was totally outpriced and went off home with my tail between my legs and a persistant niggle in the back of my brain telling me to sell those kidneys and get that bike! I bought a cheap 1984 GPz900r and ran it till it died then went on to a 1996 ZX9R. it was lovely, incredibly fast but very heavy and difficult for me to move around. The R6 never left my system and found the hankering was getting too much to bear so after re MOT-ing my zx9r having only done 250 miles on it since the previous one i decided that now was definitely the time for change. Off i went down the bike shop, and there it was. The most fantastic blue (thats the most important...

R6 every day of the week
Advantages: Power, Handling, and reliability.
Disadvantages: Some of the styling. Factory fitted tyres.
...off or buying an after market tail tidy which can be a little expensive if you can't do it yourself. The advantage of doing this is that the rear wheel has a lot more space to travel on the suspension. Even with a slim person as pillion the standard mudguard and plate holder come far too close.
Overall this is an exceptional bike with performance and value for money second to none in the 600 range and a wide range of colours to suit every ones taste.
Yamaha's official home page for the R6. It can be found at, http://www.yamahausa.com/mcnew/sport/r6specs.html.
This tells you everything you need to know about the bike technically....

Short time spent with the R6
Advantages: Lovely little package
Disadvantages: maybe to light!
...As the fifth bike I have owned and having ridden a few this Yamaha came as a nice surprise. Given that previously a Ducati 748 was as advanced as it got. All the toys on the digital dash the two trips the auto petrol trip were nice touches. as well as the getting up on a cold morning and just to know that the bike was going to start no questions asked.
The quality of the bike seemed relatively high as well this given I only had it for a month before it was stolen, raising another point. The weight of it was amazing only about 165 or so Kg and you could feel it such a nimble bike. However this also comes as a mixed bonus given the ease that thieving scum can lift them into a van hence the short time I had to get to know the bike. In this time though I did manage to rack up a few mile in all conditions. As I said a lovely bike to live...

A girlies eye view
Advantages: Its a great pose, a great attention getter, and wonderful ride
Disadvantages: I can think of none as a rider
...I have both riden and pillioned on the R6 and like many other would vow never to do so again. This bike is definately a lone rider bike.
The riding position would suit people of a taller stature than myself (I'm 5'7)as the pegs are set quite low down. The weight and handleing are perfectly balanced, though I did find that a steering damper gave it just that little bit better responce.
I have fitted a double bubble screen to try and cut down on the wind lash, it has proved beneficial and has made the riding at speed a lot smoother.
If a pillion is required then I would suggest a steadier pace is taken as it is easy to forget and loose your passanger at the first set of lights you pull away from.
Currently the parts for the R6 are still quite dear but are slowly dropping.
I have found this bike very easy to ride and very...

The Yamaha Blaster - The small contender
Advantages: Lightweight, powerful 200cc two-stroke motor, proven over time

Can girls really ride motorbikes?
Advantages: Faster than a speeding bullet
Disadvantages: Where do I put me socks?
...leather and accessory manufacturers mean post box red.
Are you sitting comfortably?
-------------------------------------
I'm not the tallest of women at 5'6", and I've struggled with bikes where the seat height has been stated as 805mm. I was on the balls of my feet most of the time with my Honda VFR (805mm) and my CBR (810mm). The lean angle against the tank on my SV650S (805mm) was so severe I struggled with tip toes. Then I discovered a Yamaha Fazer (780mm) with both feet flat on the ground, and then I moved on to a Ducati 748R (780mm), also a very nice flat foot on the ground position. So why oh why oh why - when its clearly stated in ALL reviews and magazines that the R1 has a set height of 833mm, should I be able to get my feet FLAT on the ground sitting astride it?
The answer is simple, the seats on all of the other bikes (with...

2006 Yamaha R1- quickest way from A to B
Advantages: Wonderfully refined sportsbike, Looks ace, great comfort for a sportsbike
Disadvantages: Desirability, likelihood of theft, high insurance group
...weight bias on the hands and wrists, and so less through the bum. In any case I found the ergonomics very good for my 6ft and 13st bulk. The clocks are good, with a digital speedo', two trips, either engine or ambient air temperature, and a clock, and at night the whole lot is lit up with a gorgeous blue hue, which adds a classy look to the bike.
The other thing that is so important for bikes like this is how they make you feel. In this regard the R1 ticks all the boxes. It looks stunning in the flesh. Mine was a very understated metallic grey. I think the R1 looks great from all angles. I felt wonderful turning up at bike meets, a youngish 28 year old on an '06 plate R1, riding solo. Statement? You betcha! It goes something like this: "I come here to ride my bike, and I'm not f***ing around." It's no word of a lie either.
There...

Yamaha Stage Custom Drumkit
Advantages: GREAT DRUM KIT 4 OUTSTANDING PRICE!
Disadvantages: NONE?
...This Drum kit is amazing. If your a beginer or even really good this drum kit will suit you this kit is awsome if your looking for a reasonibly priced drum kit this is for you. I bought this kit about 2 years ago ive only made 3 adjustments like putting remo pinstripe skins on it and buying anew cymbal pack and buyong a mapex double bass pedal but thats what ive done this is a great kit and i would recomend this product to nearly anyone.
The most affordable all-birch Yamaha drumset ever! An incredible value, the legendary tone of an all-birch Yamaha drumset is now available in the Stage Custom series. The low fundamental and warm tone of Yamaha's birch drums have been the top choice of drummers for over 30 years. The Stage Custom Birch series is great for the beginner or the working professional. The staggered diagonal seam allows us to...

Thundercat - It won't get lost in a sea of CBR's
Advantages: Underrated, brakes, engine
Disadvantages: brakes, headlight, exhaust downpipes
...I bought a N registered Thundercat as a replacement for a Kawasaki GPZ500S for use primarily for instructing but also for decent runs out when the weather was nice.
The Thundercat replaced the "fox eye" headlight FZR600R, at the same time Yamaha brought out its bigger brother the Thunderace (to take on the Honda Fireblade).
It got good reviews from the press but the main problem the media had was, that although the Thundercat was a match for its biggest rival the Honda CBR600 on the road, it couldnt match it on the track due to its softer front end.
This was rubbish really as the first thing any racers did, who were serious about the Thundercat, ditched the standard front end and put racing shocks on. It also took the world supersport chamiponship. (If I remember rightly in the hands of Fabrizio Pirovano)
But the damage was...
