The Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Advantages: such an outrageously unlikely scenario that becomes realistic and believable the more you read
Disadvantages: the first half of the book was a slow build up to a fantastic story

Advantages: Beautiful pictures on first-class photographic paper
Disadvantages: no disadvantages
