Yes minister series 2

Advantages: very well written
Disadvantages: won't be to every ones taste

...This was probably the best of the three series of Yes Minister which were made. Also this was probably one of the best written comidies ever. Yes minister was the first programme to win the BAFTA for best comedy series for three years running. The battle between the political will and the administartive won't continues. Jim Hacker is still in his job as 'Minister for Adminastrative Affairs' and his plans and ideas are still constantly being blocked (or 'redrafted' to use the civil service term) by Sir Humphery. Even a cabinet reshuffle (Epsd 'The Devil You Know) delights Sir Humphery. As they think that Jim now has got the hang of the job he has to go, then they can wipe the slate clean and start with a new minister....well that is until Sir Humphery finds out who may replace Jim in his department. Still at least they agree...

"Yes Minister!"

Advantages: Good terms & conditions, support for those who undertake study
Disadvantages: Poor public perception of civil servants

Review of Civil Service

Mais Oui Prime Minister

Advantages: Very very funny, excellent acting
Disadvantages: Gets you a tad worried about they all get up to in real life!

...Thatcher, in one of her more lucid moments, called this one of the funniest TV programmes she'd ever seen, if perhaps a little understated! It follows on from the 3 series of 'Yes Minister', which depict Minister for Administrative Affairs, Jim Hacker, and his tussles with his Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey whilst Private Secretary Bernard tries to keep in with both sides. The Christmas Special then covered Sir Humphrey's promotion to cabinet secretary and Jim's accession to the premiership (taking Bernard with him as Private Sec.). Yes Prime Minister follows on from this special with 16 episodes over 2 series. Well they are just fantastic and fantastically hilarious quite frankly with the main pity being that more weren't made (although as with many great comedy series this might be one of the reasons that the standards were kept...

Review of UK Gold - Yes, Prime Minister

Comedy at its best!

Advantages: Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne, Derek Fowlds and brilliant timing!
Disadvantages: None for me

...One of my favourite comedies from the 1980's was Yes Minister with the equally brilliant follow up Yes Prime Minister. Written by Antony Jay and Jonathon Lynn the show followed the fortunes of Right Honourable Jim Hacker played by Paul Eddington (of the Good Life) who was appointed to the job of Minister of Administrative Affairs. He was initially placed in this job to keep him out of trouble as he is more than a little idealistic and really believes that he can make a difference. His Private Secretary is Bernard Woolley played by Derek Fowlds (now of Heartbeat fame). Bernard has the job of managing Jim Hacker's diary and generally looking after him but he is also at the mercy of Senior Civil Servant Sir Humphrey Appleby played brilliantly by Nigel Hawthorne. Each episode sees Hacker trying to improve things by cutting costs...

yes man to be prime minister!

Advantages: pure comedy! you couldnt make this up!
Disadvantages: none!

...This book is a highly hilarious book written by Danny Wallace. Some may have heard of him before he has written other books and been on TV a few times - most recently Celebrity Weakest Link. The book is about Danny himself and his quest to 'say yes more'. It takes you around the world and shows how little 'projects' - which we all have - go a bit crazy and the world around us stays the same. his interactions with his girlfriend are hilarious! He basically stops saying yes to oppurtunites that he would normally say no to. You see his life develop and his career excel. It makes you actually think - maybe I should do this! It is printed in various versions and I bought this as soon as it came out as I really like his persoal style of writing. Its as if he is talking to himself but knows he is talking to you also. Just Say "YES!!!!"

Advantages: Enjoyable, funny, light-hearted, different from other romantic comedies
Disadvantages: If you dont like Jim Carrey you wont enjoy it!

...Yes Man is a comedy starring Jim Carrey. The film is based on a book by Danny Wallace and basically tells the story of a man who starts to say ?Yes? to every opportunity that comes his way regardless of what it is. Interestingly enough Danny Wallace makes a little appearance sitting at the bar, I knew it was him as I had seen him on Richard and Judy some time ago talking about his book and his experiences of deciding to say yes to every opportunity. Are you a yes person or a no person?

Advantages: Quite amusing in parts/its quite lighthearted but makes you think, not long winded, the characters

Jim Carrey, the man who like to say yes?

Advantages: Quirky, endearing performances. Restrained Carrey
Disadvantages: Random gross-out moments are misplaced.
