The perfect location in New York

Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels
Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts

...The Park Central Hotel New York is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded by gift shops and cafes and there's a nice little Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better. When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. New York City's Best Kept Secret

Advantages: Small, Cheap, Quick to get around and beautiful animals
Disadvantages: Some animals looked way too hot in the heat we had. Wasn't sure if it was cruel or not?

...With the New York Pass we had the option of visiting two zoos, either the Bronx Zoo or Central Park Zoo. Well Central Park is only about a 20 minute walk from our hotel, so we decided it was probably better to go to this one rather than Bronx Zoo. After a very long day in the 90 degree heat, we finally arrived at the zoo, got our tickets and went straight into the zoo. The first obstacle you?ll face is the photographers, attempting to get more money out of you in the end; we declined as we all looked like utter crap due to the heat. We immediately found a little bit of shelter in the form of this huge gazebo situated in the main part of the zoo, we sat here for a while before going to look at the rest of the zoo. Park Central Hotel

Advantages: Superb location, comfortable accomodation, helpful staff
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages to the actual hotel itself

Central Park Zoo

Advantages: Great

...We went to the central park zoo when we were in New York the other week. It was a lot of fun and the animals were beautiful. it was obvious that the animals were very hot though and this came across quite cruel. Any way, the animals looked well looked after, but due to the heat I did think that they would be a little too hot. The snow leopard was gorgeous, she was the most gorgeous animal that I have ever seen. She spent most of the time trying to hide from the heat, but we still got some amazing pictures of her. An amazing zoo, one that I would recommend that you check out if you get to the states, it is cheap as well at only $8. parkfielsd-2006...

York Minster

Advantages: Size And Amazing Architecture
Disadvantages: Foundations where a bit scary for me

...I love york and whenever possible go for a weekend. Whilst there I always visit York Minster and usually stay in an Inn a few feet away directly facing the Minster. The first thing that strikes you is the size of it and the fabulous architecture (it's over 500 feet wide and has a central tower almost 200 feet high). Visitors come from all over the world to admire York Minster Cathedral. Whilst you are looking around the Minster bear in mind it took over 250 years to complete and the only devices they had then were simple levers, pulleys and hoists. Lots of Masons and Carpenters spent their entire working lives just helping to construct York Minster. In the year 306A.D. Constantine was proclaimed Emperor in a ceremony which took place on the sight of the future Minister, there is a statue of him looking very Imperial outside...

Skating in Central Park

Disadvantages: Cold, pain

...New York gets cold, very cold. It also gets windy which, when it's cold, makes it colder. You can either hide under the duvet some time in December and refuse to come out until April, or you can get out and make the most of the cold. New Yorkers have two skating rinks in Central Park to help you make the most of the cold. The Lasker rink at the north end of the park converts from a swimming pool in the summertime. It is however, less popular, and less safe particularly at night than the Wollman Rink. The Wollman Rink is one you've probably seen before, even if you've never set foot in New York City. It's the rink across which the baddies chased our hero in Home Alone 2, and is currently on the silver screen in the romantic comedy Serendipity. York's magnificent Minster

Advantages: Lots of history

...at £7.50 per adult and £2 per child. There are a whole range of other options too, including tickets that allow you into the Minster only, or just into the Tower or audio tours etc. I never cease to be amazed by the sight of York Minster. It truly is one of Britain's most impressive pieces of architecture. To give you an idea of its size it is 158 metres long (519 feet) and 60 metres high (198 feet), whilst its central tower measures 20 square metres (65 square feet) and is the largest church tower in England. As a rule I try to avoid the major tourist attractions but in the case of York Minster I did make an exception. My only compromise was that we visited midweek, early in the morning to avoid the main crowds, but even at before 10am on a Wednesday morning there were still plenty of people about. Royal York Hotel, York

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, leisure faclities

...My partner and I stayed in this hotel for two nights very recently. We had originally booked into the York Ibis but I decided to book this hotel as a surprise for him and cancel the Ibis - and I'm glad I did. I researched quite a few hotels in York but this one seemed to have the grandeur, facilities and central location I was looking for - and it had a spa! Originally named the Royal Station Hotel, the hotel was opened in the 1878 and was owned by the Northeastern Railway Company, the purpose of the hotel being to disguise the train station which is behind it. ...and turn right. From out of York, its probably best to come along the A64 and then turn off onto Hull Road, A1079. Keep going until the roundabout next to B&Q and then turn left.
