...Just returned from staying at Carlton Housewith my wife for our wedding anniversary. This place is fantastic, it really is. Have stayed in York on other occasions and always tend to pay over the odds hoping money brings service. The Carlton although not cheap is fantastic value for money and provides the quality of service expected from the top end hotels. Although in the guest house category I would class this place as a hotel with the added value of that special guest house service. Arrival was greeted by friendly smile, explanation of facilities, room, parking and location. Our room was on the first floor,pleasing pastle colours nice double bed, plenty of space with modern ensuite. A little bit of peace in the middle of York

Advantages: Very interesting, lots to see, great cafe, beautiful garden

...I went to visit the Treasurer's House on a rainy day in York, mainly to get out of the rain. I didn't have anywhere near enough time to see everything in the house, as I had arranged to meet family afterwards. I will definitely be going back. The Treasurer's House is a 17th and 18th century mansion house in the centre of York, just round the corner from the York Minster. It was originally home to the treasurers of York and was built on a Roman road. It was bought by wealthy local industrialist Frank Green and restored between 1897 and 1930. It was the first house ever to be given to the National Trust complete with a significant collection. York Minster

Advantages: Size And Amazing Architecture
Disadvantages: Foundations where a bit scary for me

...I love york and whenever possible go for a weekend. Whilst there I always visit York Minster and usually stay in an Inn a few feet away directly facing the Minster. The first thing that strikes you is the size of it and the fabulous architecture (it's over 500 feet wide and has a central tower almost 200 feet high). Visitors come from all over the world to admire York Minster Cathedral. Whilst you are looking around the Minster bear in mind it took over 250 years to complete and the only devices they had then were simple levers, pulleys and hoists. Lots of Masons and Carpenters spent their entire working lives just helping to construct York Minster. In the year 306A.D. Constantine was proclaimed Emperor in a ceremony which took place on the sight of the future Minister, there is a statue of him looking very Imperial outside...

Royal York Hotel, York

...My partner and I stayed in this hotel for two nights very recently. We had originally booked into the York Ibis but I decided to book this hotel as a surprise for him and cancel the Ibis - and I'm glad I did. I researched quite a few hotels in York but this one seemed to have the grandeur, facilities and central location I was looking for - and it had a spa! Originally named the Royal Station Hotel, the hotel was opened in the 1878 and was owned by the Northeastern Railway Company, the purpose of the hotel being to disguise the train station which is behind it. The York Dungeon - A Fantastic Day Out

Advantages: Enthusiastic cast; special effects; lasted a long time; small queues
Disadvantages: 'Ride' was poor; closes early; it is scary, makes you jump

Advantages: Good price, useful location, clean and comfortable
Disadvantages: Breakfast served only in room, poor breakfast, no lock/light working in bathroom

...I recently had a chance to stay at this rather lovely 4 star hotel in York. My husband is involved with a medical company and for their AGM this year they stayed at The Royal York with a meal at the nearby (if you call 40 minuets on a coach) Castle Howard. All very posh and normally way above my means of expense (for the general person attending this function think doctor, surgeon, well paid researcher), however as hubby does work for them they paid for most of the trip (we had to pay £26 in total, what a great deal!).
