Yorkshire Bank is a disgrace to the name
Review of Yorkshire Bank by  fightgear

Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: terrible service, self serving, no decency

...Several years ago my wife and I opened a Yorkshire Bank executive bank account. For this privilege we paid about £50 per year but for this we got what was called an executive account. Special cheque card with a higher limit, a gold mastercard, automatic overdraft of up to £500, a personal banker who sorted any problems out directly for you. This was fine, on paper. When things went to the dogs ( the company i worked for went into administration), suddenly they wanted everything back at once. There was no gentle support, they kept piling on pressure, sending in debt collectors, and finally taking us to court and making the unsecured overdraft become secured on our home. We worked out the bank charges at over £17,500 over 12 months. Some days we would receive six letters from them all being charged at £35 each. Our debt to them was £12... Read review

The Yorkshire Banks Fable
Review of Yorkshire Bank by  Rob_Davies

Advantages: Very accomodating if you want a loan or an overdraft.
Disadvantages: Unfortunatly not quite so sympathetic if you're trying to claw your way back out of debt.

..."Hear all, see all, tell 'em nowt, Eat all, sup all, pay 'em nowt, an if tha's ever opening a bank account, tek it to another bank." If it's not the mission statement of the Yorkshire Bank, maybe someone ought to tell the staff. OK maybe that's not fair, until a year or so ago the Yorkshire Bank was in fact my favourite of the triumvirate of Banks I hold accounts at. (The others being Barclays and the Halifax) But that was way back when I was employed. Note I don't say gainfully employed. I was in fact up to my eyeballs in overdraft, an ovedraft nurtured and encouraged by the engaging staff at my local branch, right up to the point at which I voluntarily asked them to close the account and set up a repayment scheme. Do what? I had, you see decided to go it alone. Ooops. Overnight I apparently became the bad guy. Collections... Read review

Magic stones in the Yorkshire countryside
Review of Yorkshire Sculpture Park by  battiest

Advantages: You don't have to be 'arty' and it doesn't cost a fortune
Disadvantages: The time will fly, one visit just isn't enough

...to Wakefield Westgate station, and then take a taxi or bus to the Park. Kettlethorpe Cars charge £21 for a return trip; you can book online at www.kettlethorpecars.co.uk or by phone on 07860 107643. So much for the luxury option! Alternatively, you could buy a bus DayRover ticket; one of these will get you unlimited bus travel in the West Yorkshire area after 9.30 on weekdays and all day on week-ends and Bank Holidays. A Family DayRover costs £6 for up to 2 adults and up to 3 children, a Bus DayRover for 1 adult costs £3.80 if you're travelling alone. For up-to-date bus information, call Metro Travel Information Service on 0113 2457676. *About Yorkshire Sculpture Park* The sculptures are sited around the park and in three galleries. Firsby Reservoirs, South Yorkshire
Review of Firsby Reservoirs, South Yorkshire by  micksheff

Advantages: Tranquil, free to visit
Disadvantages: Difficult to find, no circular footpath all the way around

...Firsby Reservoirs lie approximately 4 miles (7 Kilometres) to the north east of Rotherham town centre in South Yorkshire. They consist of two separate bodies of water that were created between 1874 and 1880 to provide a supply of fresh drinking water to Rotherham and the surrounding area. Their secondary purpose was to also to act as holding reservoirs for the nearby Thrybergh Reservoir. However, it seemed that the odds were stacked against these reservoirs right from the start. It soon became apparent that both reservoirs leaked badly and despite numerous repairs the problem was never really solved. In the early 1970's the M18 Motorway had been built close to the site and by 1974 the whole area was so heavily polluted that Firsby Reservoirs were no longer viable as a source of drinking water and they became redundant... The battle of the Red and White Roses
Review of Yorkshire Bank by  Paula_23_uk

Advantages: Good all round friendly, helpful service.
Disadvantages: None to date!

...Being from Lancashire, it is strange to hear me say 'Go Yorkshire Go' but this statment refers to the Yorkshire Bank plc. I wrote a review some time ago regarding Lloyds TSB and how disgusted I was with their service. I decided then to go over to the Yorkshire Bank plc. What a brilliant move! I have nothing but praise for the people at the Yorkshire Bank plc - Wigan Branch. Firstly, I have my own advisor who I see each time I want an appointment, which makes my visit to the bank easier and much more relaxing. Not having to explain my situation or any problems I may have each time I visit the bank makes life much simpler. Secondly, I have noticed that each member of staff at the Yorkshire can do each others job. For example, there's none of that, "Sorry you can't see Mr X for that, he only deals with..... blah blah blah... Read review

I've lost interest!
Review of Yorkshire Bank by  jonathanw3

Advantages: Getting a meastro.
Disadvantages: Interest rates, customer service, knowledge of staff.

...I have banked with Yorkshire bank since I was three, so I have given them 21 years worth of my money and custom. I first joined them with school as they suggested a bank account for children, so my mum kindly opened one for me. I had this bank account until I was 18, as I could not have a switch until I was that age. This is really the first experience I had had with them. I went in to make an appointment and spoke to a nice lady who organised a meeting. I had managed to save up quite a bit so the lady was very nice. She suggested accounts that I could have in relation to the money that I had. She suggested a high interest account a current account (Cheque Book and Switch) and an ISA (Tax Free Savings). I was happy with this service, probably as I did not really know anything about banks at the time. The staff... Read review

Quality Service
Review of Yorkshire Bank Accounts by  matty80

Advantages: Service, Reputation, Competitive Rates
Disadvantages: Not as many branches, Not as cutting edge as other banks

...I have been banking with Yorkshire Bank for 1 year now. Overall I have nothing but good experiences with them. I am a Private Banking Client so my experience may differ from that of others. As a private client the package they offer is excellent high interest on credit balances and very competitive over draft rates of about 7.9% at the time of writing. Their charges are low with no fee for any day to day banking services such as stopping a cheque, bankers draft even for CHAPS payments. There is a monthly service charge of 12.50 For this fee you get a direct dial line to your Private Bank Manager, my manager has 12+ years of experience as a branch manager and is very knowledgable of all the products and banking procedures. All the call centres are based in the UK which is why I left HSBC! The internet banking isnt great... Read review

Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales
Review of Richmond, North Yorkshire by  Collingwood21

Advantages: Rich in history, Beautiful countryside, Georgian architecture
Disadvantages: Difficult and expensive to park

..."Richmond is a town unlike others, a place unique, rich in relics of the past. It is too good to be passed by." Alfred Wainwright. Richmond is a small market town in North Yorkshire, on the edge of the Dales, and if you believe what you read in Lonely Planet guides, then it is one of the great undiscovered towns of England as far as visitors are concerned. This might be a little odd when you consider the popularity of the Dales and that the proximity of the town to the A1 (just 4 miles away) makes it easily accessible as a day trip location from a large part of the North East and Yorkshire. Indeed, I travelled down from Newcastle for the day (lured by the promise of a living history event) and it took me little more than an hour to find the town, although it unfortunately felt like it took me the same amount of time to find... Monk Bretton Priory, South Yorkshire
Review of Monk Bretton Priory, South Yorkshire by  micksheff

Advantages: Free to visit
Disadvantages: Within an urban enviroment, now only ruins

...I thought that that my trusted satellite navigation system had let me down when I recently visited Monk Bretton Priory near Barnsley in South Yorkshire. I knew that I was very close to the remains of this 12th century monastery as I had been following a string of road signs for a couple of miles. Suddenly after a quick left turn onto a housing estate at the back of a row of shops my Sat Nav proudly announced that I had reached my destination. I looked around at the rows of houses and was just about to curse under my breath when I noticed that I was on Abbey Lane, which seemed rather promising. I parked up and peered over a stone wall that ran along the length of this road and there it was, nestled somewhat uncomfortably adjacent to a modern, post war sprawling housing estate. Of course, nine and a half centuries ago when this Cluniac... Read review

Awful service
Review of Yorkshire Bank by  Staci709

Advantages: None that I can see
Disadvantages: Rude, inefficient staff most of whom do not have a clue what they are doing

...I had a current account with the yorkshire bank a couple of years ago before i went to university, things went fine for a short time until I started going over my overdraft limit every month and i couldnt work out why, they also charged £9 a time for this. Eventually i got a Bank statement from them and that was a long wait. I found then, that they had set up not one, but 2 unauthorised direct debits from my account and were taking about £50 per month. When I complained, they told me they couldnt tell me any details about the direct debit other than the name of the company taking it, they told me they couldnt cancel them and to talk to the company in question. When I did, i was told they couldnt give me any information because I wasnt the person on their account details and that my bank should sort it out. After several more complaints... Read review
